Site continually crashing and reloading

I am so utterly sick of this, it’s been going on for months but now it’s even worse, in the space of 15 minutes the site has crashed and reloaded 3 times, each time I have lost my post I was typing, it’s infuriating, I am on an iPad using safari. This has been highlighted by numerous posters time and time again and nothing changes.

The site has a mind of its own at the moment! Chucking you off, scrolling itself!

Trying to load one of the Helen Webberley threads, and I get chucked off twice. With these messages:

Using an iPhone 15, Safari.

And some threads are worsen than others. (Like I can post on this okay.).

True. It could be alot of things. Like Ram and processor power. i have 2 different laptops, but the same network device.

It is not those things. It happens with no other apps on our devices, and no other web pages, just MN.
This has been reported numerous times before and it’s almost certainly one or more of the ads that’s causing it. I’m sure that on a previous thread when this was reported, MN said they identified an ad that was causing trouble.

@BeckyAMumsnet this is the screenshot you need, look! This is exactly what I get when it happens. A problem repeatedly occurred. Hooray, MNHQ will be able to fix it now. Wink

TappaMcFeety · 26/11/2025 08:03

It was so bad yesterday that I gave up. This morning it’s just as bad and I even resorted to turning off my phone to see if that helped - of course it didn’t!

Concretejungle1 · 26/11/2025 08:06

@BeckyAMumsnet
respectfully i and others have complained about this for over a year now. Your site no longer works with all these ads. This page has crashed twice and reloaded on me in just 2 mins. If its a large thread i have no chance of reading it as it constantly crashes. I can no longer use the ‘ read op posts’ option as that also crashes everything.

Same. Also pressing the back to top option. Search in page. Almost anything in fact. Including just scrolling.

DevilsIvyy · 26/11/2025 08:59

It’s so so bad this morning. I only get a few posts down the page and the rest it blank. It’s so slow to refresh and reload the page. I give up.

SpruceWilloow · 26/11/2025 09:50

I started reading this thread cos I have the same and it crashed partway down the first page. You can’t do a video or screenshot cos you don’t know when it will happen. Also on safari on IPad. I think is due to the video ads and even the picture ones move about and are horribly distracting and stop you looking at them. Please fix it.

It might be your network. Internet connection.

It’s been doing this since summer. We have 17 devices on our network.

All of them work perfectly.

Frenchexs · 26/11/2025 21:40

Same here, I used to love it here but come less and less as it’s infuriating to use.

GarlicHound · 27/11/2025 02:22

Same here. This was my entire browser window (on a PC, as you can see). The whole thing went black, then adorned itself with a Wowcher ad from Mumsnet in the rectangle it should have taken on the MN page. The other bits appeared as I was taking the screenshot.

I am forced to double-reload the site every 15 minutes or so, sometimes more like every 5. You're prioritising ad loading before content, which is bad in itself, but many of the ads are overloading memory. I've become unreasonably fond of Co-Op Funeralcare because their ads don't crash the site!

The other day, a full-screen Wowcher ad obliterated all the content. Then it froze my browser, so I had to force-close it. OH ..! While typing this reply, I got another unresponsive black screen, this time with an 'application error'. Another forced close required.

The fact that I'm still putting up with this proves I'm addicted. Even I may be reaching 'rock bottom' now, though.

I thought it was my ipad too!

"The exception unknown software exception (0xe0000008) occurred in the application at location 0x00007FF9822B5369."

This is a memory overload. I only get it when Mumsnet's open.

Yes, I clear all caches every day. Yes, I've disabled all extensions, have re-installed Chrome, have increased my page file allocation, have run hard disk checks.

Mumsnet's a website, not a resource-hungry application! It shouldn't be doing this! My hungriest actual applications are Photoshop, Excel and Outlook. They don't overload the memory. Mumsnet does. My browser can handle Prime, Netflix and YouTube simultaneously. But not Mumsnet.

As USPs go, I bet it's actually quite effective. 😁

Thanks for this. I have been thinking that my iPad battery is knackered because it’s draining ridiculously quickly but you’ve just made me realise that my battery is probably fine and MN is just taking all that power to run its ads.

BeckyAMumsnet · 27/11/2025 13:51

Hi everyone.

We’re throwing everything including the kitchen sink at this issue to figure out what’s causing the crashes and page reloads.

We know we often ask for screen recordings, but they really do help us pinpoint the problem faster. If you can, please post them here or send them to [email protected].

If you’re unsure how to make a recording, full instructions are available here: Screenshots & Screen Recordings Across Devices

Thanks again for your help, we really appreciate it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 27/11/2025 14:47

I also get this when l click the back browser button to go back to previous MN page, weird srcdoc in browser.

it crashes on virgin, sky, ee and o2 ( it crashes on my phone, home, family, friends and work broadband) All other sites work fine on these? I think it might just be this site.
i have a different internet provider for my home and phone and it crashes on both.

Hi

this has been said for over a year now but problem has just gotten worse ( and more ads?)
@BeckyAMumsnet
the ads take over half the screen, when my headphones are on i have to close this down as it shuts off my amazon player!

But, people have already posted screenshots and videos on this and the other thread. What is the verdict on these? Plus, as has been said, surely you’ve got somebody there with an iPhone who can log on as a punter and check it and literally witness it happening. You can’t just keep popping up on the thread every fortnight and asking for the same thing.

And screen recordings and shots won’t show my finger touching threads and nothing happening or my thumb trying to scroll the post whilst the page has frozen. There has to be more to this. I cannot believe after all this time Mumsnet are still maintaining that they don’t know what the problem is and can’t replicate it themselves. We’re being hoodwinked here.

PuppyMonkey · 27/11/2025 17:16

I did it!!! Here is a pic of it just happening to me on another thread. Hope it’s helpful. Grin

It is genuine by the way.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 27/11/2025 17:20

I have to reload pages five times to get them to scroll. I’m going to guess it’s the ads.
