Ads covering whole page.

I've attached a picture.
The advert comes up, covers the whole page and you have to click off the page to remove it.
I've had to go off this page three times to write this.
The adverts like the coop one that cover most of the page are annoying but this advert makes the site unusable.

I'm not a web developer but I can't help thinking the same. There is no other site or forum that I visit that has the number of problems with ads that Mumsnet does. In fact I can't remember them having ANY bugs caused by ads.

As I understand it, some media agencies actively discourage advertising on mumsnet for reputational reasons. Read into that what you will!!

I’m not surprised at all.

ILikeDungs · 14/10/2025 16:17

Not happening to me anymore, since shortly after 11. ???

Edited to say I have had my screen freezing on MN several times a day for a couple of days, that's new

I'm now using Duck Duck Go as suggested. Can anyone tell me if I import all my passwords from Google will they be lost from Google? I'd like to hedge my bets for a bit.

That one, I think I’d definitely google for a couple of tech discussions tbh.

I only need to use DuckDuckGo for browsing & posting on MN, and no other functions.

Thanks so much for your patience while we’ve been digging into the problem ads. We know it’s been a real pain and is making threads almost impossible to read for some of you. We’ve been working with our ad tech partners to track down the cause, and we’ve now blocked the ads we think were responsible.

Unfortunately, some browsers will hang on to old versions of ads for a while, which means a few users may still see the problem until their cache updates. To help make sure you’re seeing the latest (hopefully fixed) version, it would really help if you could clear your browser cache. Here’s how to do that on Chrome:

  1. On your computer or phone, open Chrome.
  2. Click the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Go to Settings → Privacy and Security → Clear browsing data.
  4. Choose “Cached images and files” (you don’t need to clear passwords or history).
  5. Click Clear data, then restart your browser and open Mumsnet again.

We know it’s a bit of a faff, but this makes sure your browser loads fresh ads rather than older cached ones that might still cause the scrolling issue. If you’re still having problems after doing that, please post on this thread or email [email protected]

Thanks again for your help in getting this sorted - so many of you sent screen recordings and we really appreciate that you took the time to do that

Supporterofwomensrights · 14/10/2025 21:35

It's better for me now.

Helleofabore · 14/10/2025 21:37

Just came back on phone now and it seems to be working ok now.

Thanks @BeckyAMumsnet

Londonnight · 15/10/2025 06:40

This is happening to me too. Aldi ad covering the whole page making everything totally unusable!
Is this a way to get everyone to pay for premium to stop the ads?? I'll just stop using MN.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 15/10/2025 07:03

I've been hit by the Aldi advert this morning too.
Sorry @BeckyAMumsnet - I've now moved to DuckDuckGo because you just can't manage ads on this site at all.

JoshLymanSwagger · 15/10/2025 07:09

@BeckyAMumsnet There's a National Lottery Pop-up which is new and has covered the whole screen - and I'm using a laptop - cleared cookies yesterday and it's hit me this morning on first visit.

Nocookiesforme · 15/10/2025 08:27

@BeckyAMumsnet
And it's happening again this morning!!!!!
The Aldi banner ad is moving to cover half the page and if I click away to go elsewhere or even move down the page is opening up another page with full Aldi ad.
I can't read, see anything or go anywhere - it was a bloody struggle to get here to report this.
I'm on desktop Chrome and no, I don't have a massive cache of cookies etc as system clears it every night - SO IT ISN'T ME!!!!!!!
Please sort this out before I decide to deregister again as it's an utter s* show
No, I can't send you a photo or video because I've not got my phone to hand.

RosieTheHat · 15/10/2025 08:29

Agree.
It is bloody annoying and I am losing patience.

Spanador · 15/10/2025 08:34

Well the Aldi one has now stopped for me, but the Lotto one has taken over this morning meaning you can't navigate to any other parts of the site

Mine seems OK this morning (shhh, I only whispered that....)

Yes i have this lotto one this morning. I kept trying to click on a thread and it kept taking me to lotto. It's a really shitty way of making you click on the ads when you're not intending to. I've never known it with any other site, it's very poor.

I think mumsnet might be in a bit of a doom loop on advertising; advertisers know that there are so many false clicks on ads here that they pay much less per click than they do on other sites. As a result, mumsnet has to run more ads...they are chasing volume of ads to generate income rather than quality of clicks because in the short term its easier and cheaper. It's not however a recipe for success...

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 15/10/2025 15:41

So far DuckDuckGo is working out really well for me. Thank you to those who suggested it.

I totally understand that sites need ads to fund them, and I would not be switching to a browser designed to hide them if MN was able to manage their ads in a way that doesn’t make the user experience unbearable.

But it’s been years of crappy ad management from MN, with constant excuses, requests for screenshots and recordings and details about browser/device, and no discernible improvement.

Confusedmumofteen · 15/10/2025 22:08

I keep getting the Fiverr advert filling the whole screen and when I try to scroll past it opens the link.
Also the flickering Hush ad Is giving me a very sore head..
Edited to say I'm on an android phone using Chrome browser.

Ginormous coop ad blocking the page and hard to scroll past. It's getting very annoying. Maybe I need to give up on MN and find a book to read each night.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 17/10/2025 07:44

Yeah adverts are still popping up: large cross country one i click off and then scroll down and it pops back up. Reported it ages ago.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/10/2025 07:47

The whole page ads have stopped for me (Android/chrome) - thank you very much, but the flickering Hush ad at the top of the screen is horrible.

Lifestooshort71 · 17/10/2025 11:26

Yes, my full page ones have gone (thank you!) but when I type a response now it's in a massive font and keeps resetting massive when I minimise it....?

LilyMumsnet · 17/10/2025 15:15

Hi @FuzzyPuffling could you email a screenrecording of the hush advert to [email protected] so we can take a closer look?

@Lifestooshort71 thanks for letting us know. Can we see a screenshot so we can try and see what's happening here?

Lifestooshort71 · 17/10/2025 15:35

If you click on it....it enlarges (does for me anyway!)
