Concerns about racism

1000 replies

PandoraSocks · 05/08/2025 08:33

Hi there Mumsnet HQ

Many of us are concerned about the uptick of hatred, xenophobia and racism on the site over the past couple of weeks. Most of the bigotry is focused on asylum seekers. MNHQ will of course delete racism etc. if reported, but this has gone way beyond a few hateful posts.

Links below to three examples of threads which have descended into real nastiness.

Cheers.

OI. NO @pointythings . No ‘sending’ the recipe to @Blossomtoes. You share with the whole class or you will have it taken off you.

RockyRogue1001 · 05/08/2025 18:23

It took a while, but interesting and informative posts from @BeckyAMumsnet which have explained the process and thinking in ways I hadn't been aware of.

I worry about reporting too frequently, because I'm sure I've read somewhere that posters have been banned for making too many reports, so i tend to only report spam now

I'm not a fan of (any of) the royals, but I've seen posts about a certain ex royal which are disgusting, and i do believe her colour has a lot to do with that

Brendahollowayreconsider · 05/08/2025 18:24

Another to add to the hide list.

MurdoMunro · 05/08/2025 18:25

What is? This thread? If so, OK, that was one of the suggestions made by @BeckyAMumsnet upthread. Ignore and move on basically.

There’s been a report from a journalist who infiltrated a far right group saying they had a planned attack on all social media forums, posts to turn them into negative on immigration, thousands upon thousands shared links for others to jump on.
the digital age is ridiculous

Source please
otherwise your post seems like a lie

They're really easy. I'll send you the recipe if you like. The absolutely key thing is not to chicken out of taking them out when the timer runs out, you stick in a skewer and it doesn't quite come back clean. If you've got mild cracking on the top, they're DONE. Leave them longer and they turn into stodgy cake - still taste great, but without that brownie texture.

I’ll be forever in your debt. They sound glorious.

I don't think you will get a ban for reporting too much unless it's malicious. Maybe @BeckyAMumsnet can confirm?

I agree. I used to have a policy of not reporting, now I just go for it if a post is very offensive.

A quick Google brings up plenty of articles of people infiltrating far right groups, I've just had a read of a few, I find it interesting reading.
If you were genuinely interested surely you'd do the same instead of going "lie" and expecting people to link for you?

That’s not what the pp claimed though. They claimed a journalist had discovered far right groups co ordinating online attacks and infiltration.
It would be interesting to read about. Certainly, the YourRacistPoster usernames are over-represented if you look at the more goady threads and posts.

Edited to apologise for over hasty reading of that post! Blush It was during the infiltration that online plans were discovered. Links would still be appreciated though!

Disagree - your post is typical of someone just saying shocking extreme “news” without even one fact or source . I won’t bother googling crap from a vague baseless post … no one will.

Post a link to the journalist, or source and you will get attention, otherwise it’s just nothing.

LlttledrummergirI · 05/08/2025 19:02

I've reported a couple of posts on this thread as skirting the rules- 16:13 and 16:15. The implication in them is exactly what we are talking about. Enough ambiguity to stay out of trouble, but still implying a distasteful rhetoric. Taken by themselves they could be innocuous, with the posters history (and numerous deletions on this thread) not so much.

@BeckyAMumsnet I would be interested to know more about mnet hq stance on these? If you delete them, exactly why, but equally if they are allowed to stand, why?

I've just sent you a PM with a link so as not to derail the thread. I don't understand why you find it difficult to believe that far right groups would use the power of social media to push their message. It's an obvious tactic. I don't understand why you find it difficult to believe that investigative journalists would infiltrate such groups to draw attention to them and their tactics.

And for everyone else on this thread - I just got a very rude and slightly pathetic reply to my PM. So much for trying to be helpful.

Presumably you’re capable of using Google.

I moved to this country 7 years ago after living with my British husband around the world. Last years' riots were a wake up call for me as a black person. The last 2 to 3 weeks have personally been harder. To understand how much me and those like me are not wanted here, are hated even has been something. Of course migration has to be discussed but rationally. But what has been going one has been blatant racism and bullying. And I cannot help but compare with the Kate Middleton thread that was pulled within hours because it was turning a bit nasty. Yet threads bulling meghan are allowed to stand. Yet threads calling us all sorts of names as migrants are left to stand. I feel like leaving this country. Nut one reason I moved here was my lovely mother in-law being unwell and it's something I don't regret. Without her I would be out thanks largely to mumsnet because down the pub, at the supermarket am always wondering: are you one of those posting hateful posts on mumsnet? Given half a chance, what would you do to me and my kids?

"No one will"
Except they will. I was one who just did, as I'm interested. What's the point in linking you to stuff just to pretend it's not there or not a problem, or to dismiss?
You're just as capable as googling as everyone else I assume.

So demanding facts is unreasonable when it’s asking for proof of this right wing conspiracy, but totally normal because even when something is reported in the Telegraph that still isn’t enough?

They’ve done so well. They do the first grain to glass Welsh whisky now too. Barley grown locally, water from a local spring based supplier. Not even Penderyn do that.

Do not get me started on them. The rudist and nastiest people we ever experienced. Apart from a few MN posters. Will not buy from them ever.

OK, I will post the brownie recipe later. I have to copy type it because although the base is a classic Dan Lepard, the additions are mine.
