Civil unrest, what's really going on?

1000 replies

Sadworld23 · 03/08/2025 17:02

My DH keeps chirping up with, there's riots here, protests there, immigrants have done assaults in xxx etc. He sees me as a bit of a do-gooder..

All UK places, but when I look at my regular news, there's very little reporting of it.

My DH has some MH issues currently and to confront him with 'what the heck are you reading?' isn't worth it right now.
I make comments such as, ooh that sounds grim and doesn't sound good, and that's very worrying, but I'd really like to know if it's really happening and where he's getting this info.

there were several peaceful protests in my area over the last few days at hotels that are being used to house asylum seekers. Nothing on the news at all.

a local to me young lady was stabbed to death by a resident outside the asylum seekers hotel that she worked at. She was stabbed multiple times and left to die, wasn’t found for hours. Nothing on the news. Local news did report on it but scantily.

there’s a lot of unrest where I live. I think the press etc are trying not to fan the flames.

limetrees32 · 03/08/2025 17:35

@Showerflowers that's interesting...

AntikytheraMech · 03/08/2025 17:39

There are assaults and molestation happening in multiple cities across the UK at the moment.
Mainstream press don't report it.

How do you know? Do you have a reliable source?

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/08/2025 18:52

There are obviously going to be some crimes committed by asylum seekers , partly because some people are criminals and partly because they are living wirh a vast amount of stress, they are vulnerable and desperate. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I didn't have a permanent home and didn't know if I would be allowed to stay in the country. My mental health would probably be terrible.

On the other hand, I would imagine that asylum seekers are often the victims of crime - racist hate, abuse from traffickers, gang masters and dodgy landlords.

Silverbirchleaf · 03/08/2025 18:56

Nothing in my area. In fact, went to the Kent coast today and all we saw were families enjoying themselves. No problems at all.

You must be local to me Showerflowers, it was utterly disgraceful how little coverage there was of that poor woman's murder Angry I get that the media is trying not to inflame but it only makes people angrier when they feel they're being lied to.

Richandstrange · 03/08/2025 19:40

To answer your question OP, yes these things are happening and yes the media are purposely not reporting them.

Unusual of the press to show so much restraint. Normally they can't wait to whip up a bit of discord.

How can you sleep at night? Really?

Yes its very odd, I saw a bit of BBC tv about protests in Newcastle, but nothing much on Guardian site considering the scale of what DH is telling me. No idea where he's getting it from but does watch alot of YouTube.

Bit extreme reaction perhaps?

Some Immigrants commit some offences, others or maybe the same ones are victims of crime. Sounds about right to me.

Please expand on your response..

Yes and adds fuel to conspiracy theories.

Yes but I think its easy to be shielded from unrest when you visit unaffected areas.
I know Kent coast 'hosts' alot of Immigrants though.

@Showerflowers where did this happen?

I have not seen any news on this, absolutely awful.

PinkFrogss · 03/08/2025 22:17

I imagine it’s only a small minority of crimes that are reported on, committed by an asylum seeker or not.

I imagine he gets his info from mainstream media, then goes looking for more, and the searches and engagement bring up more related to the topic on his homepages so the cycle continues

The appropriate response to stress, intense or otherwise, is not to attack women and girls - which are the crimes largely referred to in this thread. I’m appalled at your views, how can you excuse violent crime with “but they’ve had a tough life” (which is both speculation and irrelevant)?

Many years of experience here growing up in the region where many of these men are from. Married into the culture and religion while very young. In my personal, lived experience, it is incredibly naive to suggest that the view that women - particularly western women - are subordinate is not widely ingrained.

Poor mental health isnt an excuse for being violent. Good Lord.

I have crossed london by bus and train twice today, no sign of any trouble

myplace · 03/08/2025 22:35

Wasn’t there an incident in Warwick? I’m finding it hard to keep track.

noblegiraffe · 03/08/2025 22:36

There are certainly right-wing agitators trying desperately to whip up trouble on social media, talking up a civil war etc. Alison Pearson was hoping for a military coup the other week.

There's pockets of unrest, and there are people actively trying to make it worse, hoping for a repeat of last summer so they can blather on even more about how Britain is FINISHED and we need a general election NOW.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 03/08/2025 22:38

@Showerflowers was that Walsall a few months ago? Was in the news though I admit not a lot.

Wasn’t there an incident in Warwick? I’m finding it hard to keep track.

A 12 year old girl was kidnapped and raped by two immigrants in an asylum hotel. The local police and councillors tried to keep it quiet to prevent civil unrest. The girl in Epping was also 12. It’s pretty sinister the importation of additional VAWG and lack of deportation of sex criminals.
