Was anyone on here a tester for this awful new site?

If so, is it appearing as you saw it during the testing and approval phases, or did it look better and then go horribly wrong somehow?

That’s interesting. So did you get to comment on it as it was developing, or were you just presented with it? And what sort of questions were you asked about it?

I don't mind it! Using chrome on a google phone. Stays signed in, haven't had those massive ads taking up half the screen. It's ok.

I’m on an iPad. What’s with all the adverts? I keep having Annabelle Karmel pop up!

Do you think it’s better though? In particular, the accessibility issues?

I'm glad it's not just me ... I hate the new layout. So much white space. Not eye friendly.

Presented with it and asked to fill in a very short survey about whether I could do certain specified tasks ie bookmark a thread, start a new thread etc. But there were no questions about aesthetics, what it looked like etc.

As lead Mod on a major popular forum some years ago I was involved in beta testing the new platform they wanted to install.

It was dreadful - clunky, ugly and lots of functionality gone ( bit like this one now!). We all hated it and fed it back to the site owners with some suggested tweaks.

They took no notice and went ahead anyway. The members drifted away and the site is sadly no more.

Thing is nothing is going to happen is it?

MN will just assume that we’ll all get used to it.

Maybe only a massive flounce will do, something that will hit them in the pocket and which advertisers will see as a reason not to advertise here…

I'm using it on an Android phone and it's pretty awful. Clunky, cluttered, non-intuitive and a huge step backwards. The search facility is particularly ghastly. The whole thing is the very embodiment of the maxim 'If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.'

I don't have a problem with any of it except that Trending isn't changing, and I'm sure that will be sorted out shortly.

I can remember an awful lot of similar whinges last time MN changed the look of the site.

The amount of wasted white space is bonkers. This is what it looks like to me. I can’t be arsed scrolling this much.

I had a colour for my posts and a different colour for the OP's posts. It would definitely be a backwards step in functionality if it was only one colour now.

Absolutely hate it. I usually use the app but it’s full of resurrected zombie threads, I can’t access threads I’m watching or threads I’m on so I came onto the website and it’s glitchy as fuck.

I haven't actually seen lots of posts complaining, just this one. It was a while ago I was testing so can't remember much I'm afraid! It was a lot of surveys wit some free text, I don't recall the issues people seem to be having as coming up though.
I vaguely remember another change years ago which made the site unusuable on apple stuff but fine on Android, maybe this is the same and it will be resolved. Hope so! Sounds very annoying.

Why have half the buttons on the bottom bar gone? Threads I'm on, etc?

I'm on my phone and am not getting the issues some are mentioning on here - no cookies/consent/constant log-in issues - but I still hate it.

It's so white and everything is so bold. It's horrible to look at or spend any time on here. The screen feels really crowded, it's hard to navigate, my posts aren't highlighted in red any more so I can't see where I left off a thread (yes, I know I could use the bookmark button, but I rarely do and I didn't need to before). It's also impossible to view photos on here any more as they're small and crap with acres of unnecessary white space around them.

I realise that some of this is needing to get used to it, but actually, I don't want to just have to "get used" to something that's worse than the old site. All most people wanted was an edit button, instead they've wasted so much time and effort to take a perfectly useable, and, critically, user-friendly, format and turned it into this pile of shite and there's still no fucking edit button.

What do you mean it’s inconvenient? Isn’t it perfectly normal to read 1-2 lines of text between white space and ads?
