Was anyone on here a tester for this awful new site?

If so, is it appearing as you saw it during the testing and approval phases, or did it look better and then go horribly wrong somehow?

It keeps signing me out if I dont use it for five minutes.

Visually, it looks fine to me. No white space at all. But it’s the “you must consent” message that appears every time you click on something that makes it unusable for me, no matter how many times you say accept.

I've only been given the consent thing once, after logging back in, and, to give credit where credit is due, I'm chuffed that they've finally gone reputable, allowing you to reject all cookies in one or two clicks rather than forcing you to spend 10 minutes turning off 'legitimate interest' for every vendor.

I do also like the ability to just bold/italicise/underline etc. text without having to use asterisks and pointy hats and getting them in the exact right places.

I'm really not a fan of the navigation and layout, though.

It’s awful on iPad. And very slow. I came on here to find out where trending has gone but it seems to be at the bottom of the page once I’m on a thread, very strange. And the treads in trending are days old, surely something new is trending?

The consent bar is driving me insane. It pops up
literally every time I click on anything or open a thread!
I think I’ll go away and come back in a few days and hope the niggles are sorted out

It is awful on my Fire tablet, it's black n white with every post on the thread in a separate box in the middle of the screen and every few posts there is a big blank box which says advertisement but is empty, along with the top banner and bottom bar you can only actually view two posts at a time on the page. Thought that the phrase "thread " meant that you should be able to read things in a joined up way?
Only bonus is it will cut down the time I waste on here, may be the deceased traffic to the site will prove it is not a good view.

Sorry - totally missed your post with all the bloody scrolling I now have to do on my phone. I can’t believe there was no payment - nothing at all, not even vouchers or something?

Perhaps mn could have a “classic view” option as many other sites do. That way users could choose to go back to the original view, and those who seem to like it this way could stick with it.

i have never used the app, i have always been a laptop/computer user as i can't stand trying to write out decent replies on my phone/tablet.

So, anything i have to say is as a laptop user.

The Font is fine, if a little large, and the spacing ridiculous.. the font box is squished into a tiny space on the whole page, and the white box on slightly grey background HURTS MY EYES... i'm ND and on most sites i either use dark mode, or use the customisation to change colours.. i want my colour post background back.

If you really want to get wound up, try reading the MN Accessibility Policy. Patronising is being kind.

Well, given the disability discrimination act was replaced by the equality act in about 2011 I think it’s safe to say they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about.

Didn’t posts used to say ‘yesterday’ or ‘today’ etc rather than just the date? I did like not having to know today’s date to know how old the posts are.

Also, if I go back a page it takes me to the top of the previous page (so I have to scroll and try and find where I was) rather than just bouncing me back to where I was.
….that could be a problem my end in the settings or something though.

I was a tester, it was fine. I'm on an android phone and finding it fine too, no white space or anything, it's really much the same. Are you on an apple device maybe?

Also not keen on having to click precisely on the arrow to access a post in Threads I'm On, as I have to be more careful.

What are the improvements supposed to be?

Too much white, too much scrolling and 2 clicks to do something that previously took one. Not user friendly at all.

What is with the 5 blank lines on the top of the active list of threads?

iPad is awful via safari.

App is marginally better. I hate using the app though. I just liked the website but it's currently unusable on my iPad. It's shite.

I did but there was very little opportunity to provide proper feedback.

I don't remember it being sooooo white.

I’ve turned my iPad to portrait mode, which I hate doing, it’s a bit better as less white space.
