New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

I'm in the same position but on fire tablet

Using safari browser on iPhone - every time I change page, I am asked to consent again. I’ve tried each “option” and nothing will make it stay away!

When I go into search, before I even type anything, there’s almost 3 million threads showing already. See screenshot.

I can't see a hide option. Do you have a photo?

on “threads I’m on” you have to click on the thread title then scroll all the way to the end to get the post you want to read, rather than just clicking on the post you want to read

also it doesn’t auto caps first letter of sentence like it used to

Same issues as others with the colours all being the same, inc mine

notifications look weird too - no need to have them all hanging around and not clear how to clear them or what time period they’re from

oh this is awful.

The font size is tiny ,for all the navigation.

The main site is squashed in a long thin bit in the middle of the page with huge wide gaps on both sides.

When you go back a page, the threads you've read already aren't coloured purple the way they used to be, so you get so lost and don't know what you've read or where the threads you were reading are.

It just looks terrible on a desktop browser. It might be fine for phones or whatever, but for accessibility reasons, it should be fine on decent size desktop monitors too. No need to waste all the screen space with blank space at the edges, and then make the font so tiny in the main part. The threads themselves aren't necessarily tiny font, but all the navigation etc is, so you can't just enlarge it, either. And it means constant scrolling when it's all so narrow in the middle.

And huge gaps where the first 10 threads or so would normally be, now just blank lines, so you have to keep scrolling to find anything.

Having the date instead of 'today' is really too much for my little brian to handle this early in the morning.

I'm in the iOS app and it's h o r r i b l e. Nothing at all is working properly. Can't bookmark; all non-OP posts in red; posting in threads doesn't add them to 'Watching'; some posts seem to have been decapitated and start from halfway through so there is no apparent OP...

I can’t find a way to automatically jump to the last page of a thread. I don’t want to click through eg 27 pages to see if a long standing thread has been updated.

Sorry folks but this is terrible. I’m now really anxious about the private message I can’t read. I’m off to do real life for a while. Hopefully it won’t take too long for you to get it sorted.

Is this why all the threads on the Active (in app) are ancient?!! It's really weird.

Was this tested on any desktop computers? I know all the cool kids browse on phones now but I like my big gaming desktop (and it's not even that big in modern terms - 1920x1080 - someone with a 4k screen would look ridiculous). The text is showing in a tiny column about a quarter of the width of my screen. You could have this adjust with the width of the window.

And photos look absolutely miniscule like they are limited to a max pixel size more suited to standard resolutions of 2003.

It really doesn't feel like they tested it on a desktop at all. I feel like i'm reading on a phone. It's ridiculous.

Also can someone let me know if these posts are showing up?

It would be nice if the bold font for the titles changed to normal once you had clicked on and read the thread, to help keep track of the ones I've already read. I'm sure the old one used to do that, or something like it?

The colour change settings don't work on the mobile app.

Only the OP and MNHQ staff are in different colours, everyone else is bright red which is ugly and confusing.

And yes, I've already updated my settings but it still hasn't changed anything.

As mentioned by a pp, I no longer have a button at the bottom of a page to go back to the top, which means having to scroll up manually- very annoying.

Bookmarks don't appear to be working on the app - if I bookmark a thread than return to active and click on the same thread it takes me back to the start of the thread?

My gripes are

Losing the ability to click on the post I want to go to on Threads I'm On. It means bookmarking/ scrolling which is very irritating.

Having OP on every page. I like have the "see op" option. Lots of space taken by long OPs

I liked having "today" instead of the date for today's posts.

And the loss of change of colour when I've clicked on a thread.

I'm seeing lots of old posts, some a couple of years old, in Active. I'm using the App on my iPad. Really odd.

I've tried logging out and back in again but that didn't help.
