New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

Also the post count in the circle - the background colour alternates between white and grey. Why isn’t it all the same?

I keep clicking on a thread title in active and it’s taking me to the board instead. Eg clicked on this thread title and it took me into site stuff

Why aren't my posts highlighted a different colour on the app? Everyone except the OP is red.

I hate this too.

@Jbck can you send me some links for the pages where you're seeing the 'back of cushions' messaging so I can see what's going on?

To view all messages on a thread you need to change that in your settings, you can do that here - www.mumsnet.com/settings/talk

The font on active and threads I’m on is smaller than I had it.

This is my view now. As you can see i have huge blank spaces instead of text, only covers half the screen. Using tablet and chrome, both updated.

I like the look of it, crisp and clean and more readable than before.

Look at the size of that font in the screenshot. It’s much smaller than it used to be and makes it hard for me to read.

I was scrolling active. Clicked load more. And it took me to uk travel.

Bookmarks aren't working on the app.

My posts are the same colour as everyone else.

If I click into a thread of mine then into another one I often see the first thread posts on the second and have to keep clicking back to threads I am watching several times for the correct thread to show.

I think I will give it a miss until all these issues are fixed.

God it is horrible and somehow much harder to read. I think I may not be around too much longer. I can't do things that are hard to read.

It’s definitely much much harder to read on the active/threads I’m on pages. And the font is smaller in general which means I can’t read it without my glasses on.

I agree, there's an awful lot of wasted space on the right of the screen, though I expect it'll soon be filled with ads.

The talk homepage used to have a link to active threads. It doesn’t any more. Is that intentional? Before the list of talk topics, there was a link to active. It’s gone.

I think the SN threads are showing in Active. This didn't happen before....

I’m getting a lot of ads in threads which is annoying. Is this a change for premium users or a glitch?

It won't let me use my other username. (That I use for specific location based threads, this one is my bitchplop name 😂

It's absolutely definitely harder to read I'm having to enlarge my phone screen to see some bits more easily.

I'm also finding active frustrating as the threads don't highlight when they have been clicked on so I've no idea if it's a thread I've read or not at a quick glance.so now I just have a wall of bold text all in the same colour instead of intersperced with highlighted threads which used to make it much easier to find a thread I hadn't read yet.

Apart from that, everything is the same as before just prettier. (I can bookmark, see Active, etc etc)

If you are in active and load more, read and thread and then press the back button on your browser (safari, iPhone 6, mobile site) then it does take you back to the “loaded more” threads it takes you back to the first page of active threads but you’re right down at the very bottom of the page not the top. Right down at the help contact us terms privacy bit at the very bottom.

how was this released like this? Wasn’t it tested?
