New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

I've re-set my password and logged back in but am getting lots of adverts although I'm on premium can you help please?

All my watched threads bar 2 have vanished. Cant find Chat ot AIBU and the alphabetical list of topics is missing about half the normal topics.

I automatically watch threads I post on in the settings

so why have I posted on over 2000 threads but I’m only watching 315?

occasionally I watch a thread and don’t post on it but that’s maybe 15/20 threads not 315. And the ones showing are ones I’ve posted on?

I am on an iPhone and when I click on “Request Desktop Website” so I can view Mumsnet in the same way as I would on my laptop, I am getting exactly the same view

things I’ve noticed :

Threads I’ve read stay the same colour in the list.

when I go to a new line and start typing, the cursor jumps in one space and drops a capital letter. (See below)

the « go to top of page » option has vanished - this was really useful!

threads with longer titles don’t fit - the text boxes aren’t expanding within the thread list to accommodate them.

The OP post stays the same size at the top of subsequent pages of the thread - this takes up a lot of space if it’s a long post.

The changes in style are strange

So much bold, highlighting and extra clutter

Also in my posts, there is a big gap below the last line of text and the bottom of the box it’s in.

I’m viewing the site on Safari on an iPhone 13 btw.

Also as a PP posted said, threads I've read are not a different colour to one's I haven't read. That's pretty irritating!

Generally OK, but I don’t like that in the Last Hour section the threads are appearing chronologically rather than grouped by section. Could there be an option to toggle between those views?

On mine neither the OP or my responses are a different colour, everything is with a white background 🤔

Why is there so much wasted space? Is it for all the ads? 🙄

I can't even fit 2 posts on the screen and i'm on a laptop. Absolutely ridiculous.

Font is definitely smaller on Active (despite you saying it’s the same).

Is there any way at all to stop the OP appearing at the top of every single page?! It’s fine if it’s not a long one but some are quite lengthy and it’s annoying having to scroll past it every time you go to the next page. It used to be that you had the option to “show OP” rather than it being shown every time be default?

On every Talk topic I've looked at, the first 5 lines are blank. The first clickable topic appears on line 6.

When I go on my watched threads

1. they are in a different order than before


2. they give the total number of posts rather than the amount of posts since I’ve last looked/posted as previously so I’m not sure how far back to scroll back or at all…
