New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

I'm having problems when I open photos on threads. I'm using the website on iPhone and the cross to close the photo is not showing on the page. Tried using pinch zoom but I can't make the page small enough to get to the cross.

Hi @GreenFingeredNell15 can you tell me how you're accessing Mumsnet i.e. mobile website, desktop website or app? If you can also tell me your device and browser details that will help us look into the issue. Thanks!

Thanks @KatyMumsnet, I've just checked and my colour settings are the same as they were - but in the app everyone's names are in bright red.

My colours of op and my posts have changed and I don’t like it - they’re not as strong as they used to be. Safari. iPhone.

also there’s a big gap before the active threads start and on my threads I’m on some of the text is overwritten. (Pics attached)

I also liked having today rather than a date.

It doesn't seem to let me bookmark either. Every time I open this thread I have to keep going to the end, even after trying to bookmark the latest post.

You changed my colour settings to white white and the options now aren’t as strong as they used to be. Photo attached again.

Yep - good spot - thanks for reporting. We'll get this fixed asap.

Threads from OTBT are showing in active discussions at the moment following the update.

Also I’m not sure that I need to know that I’ve posted on thousands of threads 🤐🤐🤐

Threads don’t show that I’ve read them in any way. Why not?

A thread in OTBT is showing in active conversations. And when you click on it, it says that OTBT threads won’t ever appear in active conversations. I imagine some people might find this distressing.

When viewing 'Active Discussions', the date, time and latest poster's name have disappeared whereas they used to be to the right of the thread titles.

It's merging threads together.

I opened one just now with an op question like "what does x mean".

Closed and opened a thread above it instead, and it kept the op from the first thread followed by the op from the second thread?

It's not accessible. I use a larger font and now my screen is cluttered & I can't click on what I want to select easily, if at all sometimes, depending on where on the page the link is. Really disappointing.

I like it so far, other than the threads not changing colour when you’ve read them. Who on Earth thought that was a good idea ?!?

The post count is different. Is that intentional. It used to include the op. Now it doesn’t.

photo attached (again) “how to cope with” thread has 0 posts but it has the op? So should be 1?

Why aren't my posts highlighted a different colour on the app? Everyone except the OP is red.

I don't understand how all these things could have happened when you've been doing so much user testing.

Thank you Mumsnet, looks like a good update, nice and clear on my phone anyway.

This looks awful. I only have half the tablet showing threads so its all really squished up (the right hand side is just blank) and the text box/type font is small.

Previously the thread title went across the entire page, a lot easier to read/click on. Also the bookmarked post would change colour and now it doesn't.

I’m also finding it frustrating that the thread name doesn’t change once I’ve read it. This was always really useful for quickly being able to find a thread I had looked at and also for highlighting which threads might be new.

Also, I’m getting a grey Advertisement box at the top of the screen which blocks the top of the thread. I’m a premium member so shouldn’t see any ads - and to be fair I’m not seeing an ad but why is the grey box there? It’s intrusive. Screenshot attached. This box also means that when I open a photo I can’t see the cross to close it again so have to use the back button which then takes me out of the thread completely.
