New Talk launching tonight - please read!

Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars.

Trending box is back now, but it definitely wan't there for a while. Oh well.

Why is it taking approx 50 taps to get bookmarks to register? And why is this thread refusing to take me to my bookmarked post?

It's unusable at the moment the consent box or one with access denied and a weird code come up every time I change page. You can't close the access denied box down either so have to log out

Is there any possibility that the @ function on the app could be restored to bold

It's surely a small thing but made it much easier to identify who was being tagged & read the posts whereas now the @ plus name is just part of the text.

(Not even sure if MNHQ are reading this. I know there are several threads & they seem to randomly post on some but not others. They couldn't have managed this worse if they'd tried!)

@NoWordForFluffy - I think that (on the iOS app at least) bookmarks do work on threads that were started after the cockup of a upgrade.

At least, that what's happening with me. Bookmarks are working on "new" threads but on older threads are reverting to where I'd bookmarked at some random point on Tuesday or Wednesday (the Wednesday one is the Site Stuff thread, so it was started before the clusterfuck of a upgrade but I only tried to bookmark afterwards - because they didn't sticky it and I (like most people didn't see the thread until after the inept upgrade had happened and was trying to work out what the fuck was happening ).

Today the iOS app keeps crashing when scrolling on threads.

I'm not sure if this is related at all to the site issues, but 3 threads so far just have thread deleted as the deletion message with no explanation.

Irritating if it's one you've posted on with no idea why it's been deleted.

Mine are in bold and they also have a rectangle of grey colour around them which makes them stand out more, I've screenshot what I see.

Also, I thought bookmarks were working again. But tonight they keep taking me to older bookmarks not where I last bookmarked. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's hard to believe how much of a mess it is, and no updates from MNHQ

I checked the browser version as another thread deleted with no comment ... on the browser version there is a comment, just not on the app

HQ on safari on an iPad, I am getting loads and loads of adverts. Pretty much between every other post in response to an OP. I need to scroll and scroll to find the next posters comments. Like this screen shot.

HQ, I am also getting huge white space at the top of each page. Again causing me to scroll quite a lot to find a post or a comment. When you add this to the adverts post I’ve just mentioned above, it’s frustrating as I am spending so much time scrolling just to get 2-3 comments.

Still got the empty ad banner at the top of the page.

Also huge margins on the talk topics causing loads of extra scrolling. Very annoying.

All the pretty pictures come out at postcard size when I click on them; that used to be the way to get them so I could see them properly. Please can that be put back how it was so there is some point in people bothering to post them at all?

How ironic that I just logged into the app and a little box popped up asking how I like the new app version, when I still can't post anything via the app. Have to come onto mumsnet via Google to post. And links are still not working. So no mumsnet, sorry, I don't like the new version of the app.

This. Images are also extremely blurry now where they used to be fairly crisp. No idea what's going on with it, but it's made the image function virtually useless now where it used to be fine.

I'm in the middle of editing a page on my own website.

If my images were as bad as the ones on the MN destop site, I'd have no readers. The website provider I use (and it's not really that expensive) provides previews of how each page will look on a phone, a tablet and a desktop PC. But more importantly, it uploads images crisply.

Is the very irritating OP going to be removed from the second and subsequent pages of threads soon @MNHQ? So much scrolling to get passed it!

Has anyone been able to read their PMs yet? It's been saying for days I have new messages when I done and now I do I still can't get into them.

No, I can't. Still error message when I click 'Private Messages'. Can't look, can't access at all.

@SunshineCake I can access mine from the website on my iPhone - everything else is rubbish, but for some reason PMs work for me
