Please turn off “Trending in Christmas” or at least make the red less BRIGHT!

It’s November, not December!

The red is jarring!!

I’m not interested in what’s trending on the Christmas board.

It’s annoying.

It’s badly placed.

Please let us turn it off.

rattlemehearties · 12/11/2021 14:12

It really should be out of the way, below the comment box if it has to exist at all

JamAutistically · 12/11/2021 14:15

Sorry about that dot. Was testing something.

Helpstopthepain · 12/11/2021 14:17

It would be great if we could click ‘close’ on it and it disappears like ads.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 12/11/2021 14:41

What a surprise
The response from Justine I mean
It's all about those clicks
Sod the user experience

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 12/11/2021 14:49

You can’t seriously be telling us there is “a demand” for a big red box directing people to the Christmas board @JustineMumsnet? If people wanted to go to the Christmas board, they would just go to the Christmas board. Confused

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 12/11/2021 14:57

@JustineMumsnet, on the topic of bereavement, one of the trending topics in the box at the moment is Gift ideas for terminally ill Mum. Which is a totally reasonable thread obviously - but one that I don’t think should be bouncing up in a cheery-looking Christmas box.

Please turn off “Trending in Christmas” or at least make the red less BRIGHT!
SexyNeckbeard · 12/11/2021 14:57

The answer is that nobody asked for this then.

Not giving people an option to hide content they find upsetting is pretty shit of you really

SirSamuelVimes · 12/11/2021 15:01

Agree with everyone. This is really tone deaf.

Oh, that’s really bad 😔

Thanks for these comments and feedback, which we're looking into.

Port1aCastis · 12/11/2021 15:18

Quite a lot of folks cannot afford stuff for Christmas so if you're going to flash a red thingybobwotsit at us all about what people have bought or are buying how about flashing a counter one to help those in need who won't have a Christmas at all let alone buy something for Fido

Blueberryflavour · 12/11/2021 15:21

I’m a big Christmas fan and love all the Christmas threads and follow them most of the year BUT that is my choice please do not thrust the frankly intrusive Christmas Trending box everywhere on Mumsnet. Posters know where the Christmas topic is if they want it. I quite agree with PP’s to have a thread in a bright red box asking about gift ideas for terminally ill relative is just appalling. That particular thread belongs in a respectful place on the Christmas board where posters can respond in a sensitive manner. MNHQ you have got this wrong please rectify it.

SirensofTitan · 12/11/2021 15:24

As well as switching this off could you look into moving Christmas theads into the proper topic. I have it hidden as I'm sure many others do but what's the point if you allow threads to be posted anywhere

FlamingGoat · 12/11/2021 17:36

I clicked it a few times to try and hide the damn thing.
Please let us hide it if we aren't interested.
I really don't want Christmas shoved down my throat for various reasons this year.

EdmontinaDancesWithOphelia · 12/11/2021 17:48

It is better now it’s below the comment box.

Still annoying, but less intrusive.

The ‘10k clicks’ argument was a little … discombobulating. But I guess we don’t all see things from the same point of view.

Doubleraspberry · 12/11/2021 18:19

Justine, why are you guys doing this? I don’t really understand the objective. Will there be a different trending folder at the bottom of the screen all the time now? If Christmas is already so popular, why is it being promoted like this?

Count me down as some accidental clicks too.

Helpstopthepain · 12/11/2021 18:26

Definitely much better under the comment box

PinkWaferBiscuit · 12/11/2021 18:40

@Helpstopthepain

Definitely much better under the comment box
I agree although I still fail to see it's purpose given that a huge amount of topics showing in trending are from the Christmas topic. It sort of seems daft to have 2 boxes on the site basically promoting the same threads. Confused
OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/11/2021 19:17

This is a tone deaf response.

Please turn off “Trending in Christmas” or at least make the red less BRIGHT!
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/11/2021 19:37

I don't get this at all. By November there are always Christmas threads in Active and often in Trending Now. Aren't those the obvious ways people find threads of interest?

SirensofTitan · 12/11/2021 20:09

My trending now box is all threads from the Christmas topic apart from the first page. Is that because of the box or have you replaced the Christmas box by filling up the normal trending section?

FlamingGoat · 12/11/2021 20:14

The cynic in me expects lots of Christmas gift threads with affiliated links 🤷‍♀️

Surely not 🙄

TheLeadbetterLife · 12/11/2021 20:29

Ah yes, undoubtedly the source of the alleged demand for extra links to that board.
Helpstopthepain · 12/11/2021 20:53

We’ve got Christmas thrusted into our faces but the emojis (is that the word?) are still Halloween ones Halloween Grin Haloween Sad Halloween Wink Halloween Biscuit
