Hi all

We're looking at making some improvements to the Talk over the next couple of months. We've had a look at your threads in Site stuff and created a list of features you've been asking for recently. We'd love it if you could vote using the poll below please, to let us know which feature is most important to you. (You all have one vote each).

  • See OP's posts only
Ability to filter a thread to just see posts by the original poster
  • Improve search
  • Save post
Ability to favourite / save posts from other users that you like / find helpful, so you can find them again later. A bit like Instagram's 'Save' feature.
  • Edit your post
Ability to edit your post after it's gone live so you can amend any typos etc
  • Ability to move your thread to different topic
For example if your thread isn't getting a lot of traffic or if you've posted it to the wrong Talk topic
  • Quote reply
Ability to quote another user's post in your post, when replying to something they've said on a thread.
  • View all posts on one page
Being able to view all posts on a thread on one page, rather than having to click 'next page'

Also if we've left anything out, please let us know by posting below - thank you!

OP posts:

OP's post only! It's a no brainer, surely?

mathanxiety · 29/09/2019 20:06

You can already highlight an OP's posts.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2019 20:07

You can also see all posts on one page.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2019 20:12

@sigmaalphamu I use the android app and also use an iPad and PC and I have OP posts highlighted on all three.

The fact this is included in the options for PC, iPad and Android already makes me wonder if MNHQ knows how the site works.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2019 20:16

Agree with isabellerossignol that trolls would take advantage of an editing facility, even if you could only edit for a minute after posting.

Content can easily be C&Pd.

This capabillity would become a nightmare.

You can usually figure out what someone is saying regardless of typos. And autocorrect makes it likely that correcting typos would only yield more typos anyway.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2019 20:19

You can usually see on those kinds of forums that the post has been edited though, they'll have some kind of badge on it. I think it's also good if you can look through the past edits (which I think you can do on facebook), then it's very easy to show the other side of any argument as you mentioned.

Life is too short for all that detective work.

Best to leave it as it is.

LemonGingerCakes · 29/09/2019 21:35

Seeing op posts is only necessary when the thread lasts several pages.

When the whole thread can appear on one page (like it used to), then the OPs posts are already highlighted and are easy to see.

Having all posts on one pages solves many of the issues (seeing op/ ease of scrolling and searching through the thread).

LemonGingerCakes · 29/09/2019 21:39

@mathanxiety

Older users can. They removed this function for newer users. I used to view all posts on one page, which is how I know how good it is. I deleted my account due to security concerns (when all that hacking was happening). When I created a new account, I could no longer choose to view all posts on one page. A few other things had changed for the worse (for example, I can no longer choose what colour the OP is, nor what colour my posts appear). Massive steps backwards.

BIWI · 30/09/2019 07:08

Why did MNHQ take those options away? It's bizarre - definitely a retrograde step and makes threads much harder to navigate.

Rollerbird · 30/09/2019 08:51

Even if its all on one page and highlighted if you are on a phone it's a case of scrolling and realising a flash of colour went past, and scrolling back.
Not impossible but would be so much easier to click to 'next op post'

mathanxiety · 02/10/2019 07:42

LemonGingerCakes and BIWI - YY, why were those options removed, and how the heck can it be available for some and not others...
All posts on one page is incredibly useful.

I am almost sorry to mention it now, just in case it's something that had gone under the radar but will now be done away with.

I agree the app is clunky, but that's not the only clunky thing in the app.

LemonGingerCakes · 02/10/2019 11:16

All posts on one page would solve at least three of the issues in one go. And removing all posts on one page has not changed anything for the better. It slows things down because you have to wait for pages to load (takes the same time to load 100 messages as 1000). Plus going back and forth between pages is more effort than it's worth.

mathanxiety · 02/10/2019 20:19

Yes indeed - and it's clearly not a technological issue to provide the option if some users are able to do it still.
