Hi all

We're looking at making some improvements to the Talk over the next couple of months. We've had a look at your threads in Site stuff and created a list of features you've been asking for recently. We'd love it if you could vote using the poll below please, to let us know which feature is most important to you. (You all have one vote each).

  • See OP's posts only
Ability to filter a thread to just see posts by the original poster
  • Improve search
  • Save post
Ability to favourite / save posts from other users that you like / find helpful, so you can find them again later. A bit like Instagram's 'Save' feature.
  • Edit your post
Ability to edit your post after it's gone live so you can amend any typos etc
  • Ability to move your thread to different topic
For example if your thread isn't getting a lot of traffic or if you've posted it to the wrong Talk topic
  • Quote reply
Ability to quote another user's post in your post, when replying to something they've said on a thread.
  • View all posts on one page
Being able to view all posts on a thread on one page, rather than having to click 'next page'

Also if we've left anything out, please let us know by posting below - thank you!

OP posts:

Highlight the OPs posts is in customise not settings - you can choose a colour for your own posts and those of the OP as well as how many posts to show on a page. I think you have to go to desktop mode to use Customise. I've never used the app, I find the mobile site very easy to use.

Show all posts is in the pulldown button at the top of each thread, it's a visible link at the top of the threads on the desktop version. It is very easy to then use Ctrl-F or browser search to just read the OP's posts.

BlackberriesAndCream · 17/09/2019 11:52

See all OPs posts (toggle setting from seeing everything to just that, and back), or jump from one to another

mathanxiety · 17/09/2019 12:53

An edit button would result in threads being turned into gobbledygook. Responses would reference posts that could have been changed beyond recognition.

If the edit feature would be available for two minutes after posting that would be fine. But any longer and threads would turn to nonsense.

Better search would be very useful.

Saving particular posts would be great

All the rest are available in some form or another on a PC.

NigellaAwesome · 17/09/2019 12:55

Oh yes, Zombie threads! Would you consider closing threads to new posts apart from the OP after a certain period of time?

Also, when a zombie thread is resurrected, it warns the first 'new poster' but not subsequent ones. Failing the closed thread suggestion, would it be possible to have some sort of way of highlighting on the thread title that it is a resurrected zombie?

bombomboobah · 17/09/2019 13:01

I would like all of them, I would also like something that defaulted to the username that you are using for a particular thread, to avoid the name change fails

IndigoSkye · 17/09/2019 13:10

All great, love see OPs posts and save posts most though

sigmaalphamu · 17/09/2019 13:10

I don't understand poster's issue with zombie threads. Surely it's better than people starting 100 threads on the same subject.

Sparklingbrook · 17/09/2019 13:38

A lot of Zombie threads are resurrected by trolls or spammers.

NigellaAwesome · 17/09/2019 14:00

Zombie threads very often appear on 'discussion of the day' or 'trending'. You then get about 30 - 40 people commenting on the OP's situation without realising it is a zombie. I remember one in particular where there was a parenting issue for the OP's child who was about 6 at the time, but it was resurrected and the child would have been a strapping 18 year old. Grin

Perhaps fine for generic issues such as 'how do you treat cold sores?' not so much for situational issues pertaining only to the OP's particular circumstances.

mathanxiety · 17/09/2019 14:54

BIWI
I have all my posts on one page too.

ChocolateTea · 17/09/2019 14:56

A function to be able to block specific posters

GinandGingerBeer · 17/09/2019 16:27

Rather than just showing the OP's post (as you can highlight them) having the facility to find a posters post on the thread would be useful.
So many times a poster will type
'I agree with what Thisthatother poster said'
Well that's great but not if they said it 400 posts ago.

But I would like ALL the options mentioned.

starlingsintheslipstream · 17/09/2019 16:44

Improve search would be my choice. In the app it seems quite random. I'd like to narrow it down by date or for it to at least show the most recent results first.

NeverSayFreelance · 17/09/2019 17:20

Hiding categories on the app.

You know the one...

NeverSayFreelance · 17/09/2019 17:22

But definitely the OP posts one.

SpringLake · 17/09/2019 17:50

See OP posts only... assuming having the facility to see/participate in vote threads is not an available option!

nilcarborundum · 17/09/2019 19:46

See OP's post

CatSmize · 17/09/2019 21:42

I would also like something that defaulted to the username that you are using for a particular thread, to avoid the name change fails

Great idea.

MrsBertBibby · 17/09/2019 21:45

Edit! Even if only for a limited time after posting.

milliefiori · 17/09/2019 21:45

Definitely edit. If you want just OPs replies you can set them to be highlit and set the messages to 100 per page then scroll quickly so we have a version of that already. But there's no edit facility at all. would be great to get one.

Graphista · 17/09/2019 21:57

Yea all the profile stuff is a waste of server space the big appeal of mn is the anonymity.

Also do other users use the non "talk" stuff much? I never did

bombomboobah · 17/09/2019 21:59

What about the ability to edit your username when you do a name change fail?

mathanxiety · 18/09/2019 02:21

You can already highlight the OP's posts. And you can use Ctrl F to search them out and hop from one to the next.

You can also have an entire thread on one page.

You can use Ctrl F to search for a particular poster or turn of phrase from a post (on PC).

Please - no 'like' button. It has a terrible effect on discussion forums. The YABU/YANBU buttons contribute nothing.

I absolutely agree with the comments on Zombie threads. They should be flagged for all latecomers and shouldn't appear in 'Trending Now' or 'Active'.

I agree with RogersVideo's points.

Poppins2016 · 18/09/2019 02:28

Why can we only choose one option? As PPs have pointed out, other forums have had all the options given for years and it makes the user experience so much better!
