Hi all

We're looking at making some improvements to the Talk over the next couple of months. We've had a look at your threads in Site stuff and created a list of features you've been asking for recently. We'd love it if you could vote using the poll below please, to let us know which feature is most important to you. (You all have one vote each).

  • See OP's posts only
Ability to filter a thread to just see posts by the original poster
  • Improve search
  • Save post
Ability to favourite / save posts from other users that you like / find helpful, so you can find them again later. A bit like Instagram's 'Save' feature.
  • Edit your post
Ability to edit your post after it's gone live so you can amend any typos etc
  • Ability to move your thread to different topic
For example if your thread isn't getting a lot of traffic or if you've posted it to the wrong Talk topic
  • Quote reply
Ability to quote another user's post in your post, when replying to something they've said on a thread.
  • View all posts on one page
Being able to view all posts on a thread on one page, rather than having to click 'next page'

Also if we've left anything out, please let us know by posting below - thank you!

I'm not keen on the edit facility because on other forums I've been on, people post things then others reply, then the original poster goes back and changes their post and then all the replies make no sense any more.

With mumsnet being the target that it is for trolls, I envisage that you'd get posters posting something inflammatory and getting responses then going back and editing their post to something benign but capturing screen shots of the responses thereby distorting the truth of what was said.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 18/09/2019 03:36

"I'm not keen on the edit facility because on other forums I've been on, people post things then others reply, then the original poster goes back and changes their post and then all the replies make no sense any more."

You can usually see on those kinds of forums that the post has been edited though, they'll have some kind of badge on it. I think it's also good if you can look through the past edits (which I think you can do on facebook), then it's very easy to show the other side of any argument as you mentioned.

QueenOfIce · 18/09/2019 03:54

To see ops posts only, to edit and also delete I have no idea why it's left up to mnhq to decide whether or not to delete a thread upon request.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 18/09/2019 05:48

Definitely 'see OPs posts only'

Not that bothered about anything else.

SingingLily · 18/09/2019 06:09

Edit, please. I understand what PP say about retrospectively changing a post so that it makes a nonsense of any posts that follow. That would be confusing. However, a time-limited edit for typos would be a boon.

AliciaQuays · 18/09/2019 06:13

When you do a search on the mobile app and you get a thread with a comment on you want to read, it won’t link to that post. You have to trawl the whole thread

ahhgowan · 18/09/2019 06:22

OP's posts only pleeeease! I've wanted that for so long, would save so much time not having to scroll through the whole thing looking for them!

SillyMoomin · 18/09/2019 06:24

No to editing. It would be filled with people backtracking if they didn’t like initial replies

And you can already see Op’s Posts by just highlighting them a different colour. Same as just bookmarking a post
And I can already see all the posts on one page, don’t know what anyone else is doing!, but I’m on safari on my mobile

I'd like to be able to skip to a page on the ap without having to scroll through to the end, past hundreds of posts I've already read, to get to the new posts on a thread!

Magissa · 18/09/2019 06:34

"OP's posts only pleeeease! I've wanted that for so long, would save so much time not having to scroll through the whole thing looking for them!"

  1. Change your settings to highlight OP's posts.
  1. Do 'show all messages' and then do CTRL+F and search OP's username.
brightonroc · 18/09/2019 06:54

OP posts only

sigmaalphamu · 18/09/2019 08:43

People saying to do ctrl and F; you can't do that on the app! Which is what this thread is about.

ExpletiveDelighted · 18/09/2019 10:18

The OP doesn't say it's about the app, just MN Talk generally.

CookPassBabtridge · 18/09/2019 10:33

No it doesn't say specifically the app but a lot of people use it. It takes forever to scroll to the next highlighted OP post if it's days between updates and been filled with posts.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 25/09/2019 01:29

Ability to hide posts by a particular user.

This, please.

Another vote for this please!!! 🙋🏼‍♀️

BackforGood · 26/09/2019 17:09

In order, I'd like

  1. you to fix the site so I don't have to accept privacy notice for EVERY PAGE I open
  2. Be able to 'like' a post, when someone says something particularly good
  3. Be able to ever find something I've searched for - it really is a very poor search facility
  4. Be able to edit for a couple of minutes after you've written a post.

Don't understand why you would just need to see the OP's posts particularly - that is very easy to do once you've highlighted them a different colour

ProhibitedRodent · 26/09/2019 17:10

@Graphista You can already bookmark posts on threads so that you can jump back to where you were last

ProhibitedRodent · 26/09/2019 17:10

On the App I mean. Just swipe right to left then click Bookmark

saltysally · 28/09/2019 22:29

Block users

Letthemysterybe · 28/09/2019 22:34

See OPs posts only

LemonGingerCakes · 29/09/2019 14:46

See all posts on one page. Then you can

*see op posts easily by scrolling
*search through the page easily
*Not have to wait for page after page to load
*save a long thread for offline viewing easily
*move back and forth through the thread easily (useful for info threads)
