Hi all

We're looking at making some improvements to the Talk over the next couple of months. We've had a look at your threads in Site stuff and created a list of features you've been asking for recently. We'd love it if you could vote using the poll below please, to let us know which feature is most important to you. (You all have one vote each).

  • See OP's posts only
Ability to filter a thread to just see posts by the original poster
  • Improve search
  • Save post
Ability to favourite / save posts from other users that you like / find helpful, so you can find them again later. A bit like Instagram's 'Save' feature.
  • Edit your post
Ability to edit your post after it's gone live so you can amend any typos etc
  • Ability to move your thread to different topic
For example if your thread isn't getting a lot of traffic or if you've posted it to the wrong Talk topic
  • Quote reply
Ability to quote another user's post in your post, when replying to something they've said on a thread.
  • View all posts on one page
Being able to view all posts on a thread on one page, rather than having to click 'next page'

Also if we've left anything out, please let us know by posting below - thank you!

No edit
No quote posts
Block poster feature
Fix search

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 16/09/2019 17:01

Could you please fix Advanced Search before attempting to improve it.

Unshriven · 16/09/2019 17:03

Hiding threads without having to open them first. I know it was a feature in the old settings.

And showing the whole thread on one page.

popehilarious · 16/09/2019 17:06

If by "improve search" you mean fix it to how it was, then that please!

Quoting also useful.
Editing would be great but it must be clear what's been edited to avoid pranky japes. Maybe only edit below the original post.

popehilarious · 16/09/2019 17:08

Everyone should change their default settings to show 100 posts per page! I'm often momentarily bewildered by someone saying "this thread has gone on for 3 pages" when it's only one to me! Might encourage more ppl to rtft too.

ThatCurlyGirl · 16/09/2019 17:09

- See OP's posts only Ability to filter a thread to just see posts by the original poster

YES PLEASE!

PaquitaVariation · 16/09/2019 17:10

I already have all the posts on one page Confused

Cruddles · 16/09/2019 17:17

Go to first unread post, unless it's a feature that already exists and i don't know about it? It's annoying to go back to a thread you had previously been reading and try and find where you left it last

PuppyMonkey · 16/09/2019 17:19

If people only read OP’s posts, they’ll miss all the good bits.Grin

(And threads will be more likely to turn into 40,000 people saying ‘cancel the cheque’ because they think they’re the only ones saying it.)

I vote edit button, but only for a limited time period.

DarkerShrimpVase · 16/09/2019 17:22

OPs posts only. No to editing, except for a short window, or before any replies posted.

chemenger · 16/09/2019 17:24

Cruddles that’s what bookmarks are for. Bookmark the last post you’ve read then when you go back to the thread it finds the bookmark for you.

chemenger · 16/09/2019 17:25

I would like 2 minutes to edit to correct spelling. Easier quoting would be good too.

SleepRegression · 16/09/2019 17:26

Could you add ‘Watch this thread’ to the 3 dots on the bottom right of a post. At the moment i bookmark and then have to go to the top to ‘Watch’ which is a bit irritating

afrikat · 16/09/2019 17:27

See OPs posts only

Lsquiggles · 16/09/2019 17:28

Quote reply for sure, it's confusing that you can't see what people mean by their reply without having to find the corresponding reply

NigellaAwesome · 16/09/2019 17:38

Edit for 2 minutes

Hide poster option

I would also like to be able to 'like posts' although I know that is frowned upon.

For the odd times that I name change for sensitive stuff, it would be really useful to have a 'always post under this name on this thread' box that could be ticked.

Could there also be opt in credential details? E.g member since xxx year. I know some people don't like the idea, but it could be optional? It might deter some of the trolls.

AgentProvocateur · 16/09/2019 17:43

I know it’s unpopular but I’d like to “like” posts without having to type out a whole post to say I’m agreeing with such-and-such.

Also, I do view all the posts on one page already Confused

SaltySeaBird · 16/09/2019 17:53

Edit for a short time to correct typos but not once tons of people have replied so you can change context.

Really though the view OP posts only. While you’d lose a lot of what makes a forum a discussion and the wit and wisdom of MN sometimes you just want to know what happened.

fairydustandpixies · 16/09/2019 18:05

OPs posts only

ShirleyPhallus · 16/09/2019 18:08

Sorry MNHQ but when tech take such a long time to fix issues on the site which are still unresolved, shouldn’t you be spending time making sure the features you have work properly rather than rolling out new stuff which will inevitably then break?

Mentounasc · 16/09/2019 18:10

OP's Posts only plus editing for a very limited period (5-10 mins max).

StockTakeFucks · 16/09/2019 18:28

Quote posts.

Edit function (with a 3 minute limit) would be second choice.

picklemepopcorn · 16/09/2019 18:54

OPs post only.

CollaterlieSistersSister · 16/09/2019 19:00

See OPs posts only (or rather, jump directly to next OP post)

NeverHadANickname · 16/09/2019 19:07

I like the idea of an edit but maybe if it is just a letter or two for spelling then that's fine but if it is a whole sentence or something it should show the original plus the edit so people can't just change their story? Obviously saying which is which.
