What actually are your plans to deal with disablism on MN?

JustAnothersilentorangenugget · 08/07/2017 16:20

You remember you were going to impliment all kinds of things, Message which explained posts were deleted due to disablism, Emails to the posters, proactive buzzwords...

a year on what has been the result of this massive change in moderation?

Now i'm not suggesting this was a carrot, dangled to try and stop people leaving....
But we donkeys ARE getting a little tired of walking and woudl like to know what plans are there for the future to stop attacks.

OP posts:

I'm not sure HQ get reports about PM's... I've reported on before and nothing seems to happen.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 15:53

If anyone has, they'll hopefully keep that information off the thread so as not to feed the troll, and just contact MNHQ about it directly.

Doesn't work. They don't seem to make any acknowledgement a report has been recived and they don't delete it or anything.

Polter · 17/07/2017 15:53

Yes, they do get reports about PMs just like for posts. You can also block people from sending you PMs.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 15:57

Yeah i Knew about blocking. The report system is different with a PM than a forum post though.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 15:57

You can report and block straight from the PM box.

Either way, if a troll was considering trolling this thread again, the attention would make it worth their while.

That's why HQ would rather people don't feed them.

I understand that but THIS WAS HAPPENING EVEN WITHOUT THIS THREAD.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:00

Threads like this are the only way MNHQ talk to us, it's the only way we can get communication with HQ.

Polter · 17/07/2017 16:06

It's also the only way people know it's happening to others and is part of a pattern.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 16:14

Well to be honest, it could easily be misconstrued as troll baiting, now that the troll seems to have disappeared.

HQ have been on the ball with deletions on this particular thread, so I'm not sure how thrilled they'd be if you ended up enticing the troll back.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:18

Well no they haven't been on the ball, they've let a troll who repeatedly posts within the same few hours everymorning have posts on display for hours making fun of people with autism, people with cerebral palsy, people with chromozone disorders and people with down syndrome.
They could have put extra staff on between 6 and 8 to delete right away, instead posts continued for over a week and were up for 2 to 3 hours.

it could easily be misconstrued as troll baiting, now that the troll seems to have disappeared.

Asking to be kept resonably informed about an attacker isn't troll baiting.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:19

Asking to be kept informed about any changes being made to prevent what are openly hate attacks is not troll baiting.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:19

Asking for any kind of update about an on going issue isn't troll baaiting.

Samcro · 17/07/2017 16:20

Worra Im confused
do you mean talking about troll~?
or this thread as a whole?

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 16:23

Are you serious?

You expect MNHQ to put staff on from 6am because that's the time the troll tends to post?

And you think waiting 2 to 3 hours for deletion on a forum this big, isn't good enough? Confused

Sorry but they're not your personal moderators. There are many, many different MN topics that get trolled and have to wait longer than 2 to 3 hours for removal of troll posts.

I think that's fairly reasonable considering this is the internet after all and it's impossible to stop this sort of thing.

On the whole, I think HQ are doing a much better job lately, but they can't start employing/re-scheduling staff to suit individual needs.

friendswillknowme · 17/07/2017 16:24

This is the problem with open forums. Special Kids in the uk is closed. Not very busy at the moment but it's secure. They cater for families with children of any age or disability and would love new members

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:25

ou expect MNHQ to put staff on from 6am because that's the time the troll tends to post?

they've put extra staff on for other repeated attacks, no it's not unreasonable to expect it also for this one.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 16:26

Samcro, I mean publicising whether or not they've had any new PMs and therefore possibly giving the troll more attention, now that they seem to have gone away.

If people have had PMs, hopefully they would have reported them, as I said upthread.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 16:27

What other repeated attacks JustadaftProfessor?

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:27

Keep in mind this has been happening a very long time Worra, it's not a case of put more staff on on the off chance something might happen.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:29

What other repeated attacks JustadaftProfessor?

violent graphic image troll
When justine got hacked
When hackers found out about the Cross site cookie weakness

b asically every other attack that continued longer than a week.

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:33

it's impossible to stop this sort of thing.

Why is it impossible if you know the time and place?

DressedCrab · 17/07/2017 16:41

It would be excellent if MN could find a way to stop banned posters re-registering, half the problem would be solved there and then.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2017 16:45

Hackers are a completely different ball game to be fair.

I just don't think you can reasonably expect such a personal moderation service.

Unless perhaps you might consider setting your own group up and moderating around the clock?

JustadaftProfessor · 17/07/2017 16:48

I just don't think you can reasonably expect such a personal moderation service.

Personal?

Do you have any idea the amount of usewrs here who have disabilities or chidlren with disabilities...

It's hardly a personal favour.
