What actually are your plans to deal with disablism on MN?

JustAnothersilentorangenugget · 08/07/2017 16:20

You remember you were going to impliment all kinds of things, Message which explained posts were deleted due to disablism, Emails to the posters, proactive buzzwords...

a year on what has been the result of this massive change in moderation?

Now i'm not suggesting this was a carrot, dangled to try and stop people leaving....
But we donkeys ARE getting a little tired of walking and woudl like to know what plans are there for the future to stop attacks.

BoF is right though. Everyone has a different preference .
I've usually preferred that posts stand as long as I'm allowed to say they are shitheads but others want everything deleted and others want them to stand with a message.
It's difficult because the community is large and mixed

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 08/07/2017 16:48

You have the capacity to lock threads, I can't help thinking it would be better to delete the PAs, flag the -isms and lock the thread.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 08/07/2017 16:49

Pag, I'm usually a "leave it standing" person too. Did you see the attacks on dawns daughter though, on the bus thread? That is waaaaay beyond the line :(

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 08/07/2017 16:51

The deletion message is a good one though. On the plus side...

Weebo · 08/07/2017 16:51

I also prefer the 'allowed to call them shitheads' approach but the posts can be really upsetting for people.

I do feel like HQ are doing their damned best to please everyone and get rid of the dicks, though. So kudos to them.

Weebo · 08/07/2017 16:53

People were attacking Dawns DD? Shock

Scumbags - I'm glad I missed that.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/07/2017 17:02

Oh this? Again?
Been trying to get something done about this here for at least 10 years.
Good thing I didn't hold my breath.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/07/2017 17:03

Weebo they also called Dawn a gobby see you next Tuesday.

Pagwatch · 08/07/2017 17:03

Sure Weebo
That was sort of what I meant. Not everyone wants it handled the same way and that's understandable but it makes moderating incredibly difficult

JustDontGetItAtAll · 08/07/2017 17:06

I didn't dare open the thread it makes me angry. I am disabled AND have a child in a pushchair. If I was to refuse to collapse the pushchair (luckily I drive) and said I was disabled I'd be VILIFIED by every other passenger!

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 08/07/2017 17:12

Hello folks, thanks for your comments. We will remove posts or threads which break our Talk Guidelines when they’re reported to us- we aim to get to them as quickly as possible. The recently deleted thread in question here received a high number of reports, so if a post stayed up longer than you think is acceptable, we can only apologise.

We understand that some of you would rather the thread had stayed up- but, in truth, was awash with trolls and previously banned posters and had become increasingly unpleasant. In the end, it was upsetting too many people and once we removed all the offending posts, there wouldn’t have been much left to work with.

We will continue to remove any posts which we consider to be disablist, we will continue to delete threads which we feel are deliberately inflammatory, but we generally encourage posts or threads which we feel are genuine questions and discussions.

Onhold · 08/07/2017 17:15

If the thread was full of trolls and pbp then it should have been deleted.

I'm not sure what the problem is with that?

Dawndonnaagain · 08/07/2017 17:23

It was stated that if my dd was a gobby little cunt she deserved to be pushed off the bus.
They banned a poster. There were one/two other posters, not sure if it was someone being a sock puppet or not.
These posts need to be removed far more swiftly than they are and when folk are being victimised they need more support and greater protections.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/07/2017 17:23

Sorry, 'gobby little cunt like her mother'.

TheFairyCaravan · 08/07/2017 17:27

Fucking hell Dawn 😡 I hope they've been banned.

I hope you're DD is ok Flowers

That is awful, Dawn I hope she's alright.

And you.

Pagwatch · 08/07/2017 17:33

That understandably upset you Dawndonna and the deleting and banning was totally right.

But I do hope that my DD turns out to be a gobby cunt. I think sometimes gobby cunts are the ones who make stuff happen

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 08/07/2017 17:35

Yeah they really weren't removed quickly enough. I wonder if you could add an extra "beyond the pale" option to reporting that would flag it up as high high priority?

Casual disabilism on its own is awful, but personally attacking someone's child repeatedly - along with disabilism too for good measure - is utterly appalling

gillybeanz · 08/07/2017 17:37

That is awful Dawn, and I hope your dd is ok.
I'm not disabled nor are any of my family members.
Although I didn't see the thread I will jump on anything I hear/see to be disablist and am glad a pp suggested this as helpful and a step in the right direction.
So sorry people were affected by this thread Flowers

Saucery · 08/07/2017 17:38

I think an extra Report option for attacks like that would be misused for minor stuff. Which doesn't make them any more reprehensible but I do believe MNHQ read the supporting evidence for all Reports and act accordingly.

Saucery · 08/07/2017 17:39

less reprehensible, rather

Weebo · 08/07/2017 17:41

I may have imagined this but I think I remember reading that reports that have the word racist in them go to the top of the list - Or something like that.

BeyondDrinksAndKnowsThings · 08/07/2017 17:41

Yeah it totally would be misused :(
