We’d like your help testing a new release of the Mumsnet Talk App 3.0 (beta).

This app is for iPhones and iPads on iOS8 only at the moment.

We'd love it if you can give the app a good workout - using it as you normally do - to read and post in Talk. please do bear in mind that the app is still in beta version, so some things may not work perfectly. We have made a few changes since our last test release.

You can use any email address to sign up.
You need to be logged in to sign up. (If you can't see the sign up page, make sure you are logged in.)
It is LIVE. Any posts you make will be seen on the Mumsnet site for all to see. We'll send you an invitation to download the app (it will arrive via the TestFlight service).

Talk app users

This app will replace the current Talk app (2.1) on your phone if you have it.

Recent beta Talk app testers (Testflight 1.0)

If you have been involved in recent app testing, you will end up with two app icons (1.0 & 3.0) on your device. You can uninstall the previous beta app (it will stop working this week).
If you previously signed up for this - but didn't accept & download the app - you will need to sign up again.

PS - I'm using the test App on an ipad and not an iphone so it may be behaving differently with me - the screenshots and the comments don't seem to be about what I'm seeing hardly at all. It's a Test, though.

I'm on. How do I email a thread to a friend? Can't work it out....

Also my bookmarks seem to just take me back to the top of the page where I bookmarked.

Simurgh, I meant that the old purple app has been replaced on my phone with this one.

And OPs are not being highlighted in threads. It's not just MNHQ who are incognito...

And Simurgh, you bookmark by using the arrow next to the post you want to mark. The two arrows at the top flip the thread.

Did someone ask about hiding threads? Don't recall it being answered, so go to the thread title and swipe across there.

Ah - got you. You slide the arrow to the left. That's quite neat, really.

I found on the last version that pics had stopped working and I couldn't post, just read. Have updated but still can't see pics! Hopefully this will post. Any ideas?

Hurrah it posted! Are there plans for a 'my topics'? And a search function? And I really miss pics! I just get a box with a line through and 'retry'. Which doesn't work when I do.

Still no search function

Pretty please can we have an option for "last viewed thread" or summat that lets me view my recently-read threads.

Twice this evening I've been mid-thread on MN when texts and checking something on the interweb pulled me away for a few mins, and when I go back to the MN app I can't find the thread I was reading. I forget which topic it was in and it seems to be gone from Active, so that's that...

Bookmarking my place made no difference. And I don't want to have to watch every thread I read just in case I get called away from the app.

I'm disappointed by the lack of a My Topics. Going for a particular topic has always been the way I've entered MN discussions - either on the desktop site (via browser bookmarks) or on the previous App. I'd be interested to know how many people do that rather than going straight for Active Discussions which has pride of place on the bottom bar. (And which I don't use in practice.)

YY to wanting a "my topics" section. It's critical for people who live on a couple of boards rather than flitting round the whole site.

Pound signs seem to be coming up as question marks.

I agree with GeekaMaxima - I've just had trouble finding this thread again - it had dropped out of Active and I hadn't posted on it or watched it yet. I had to go to Topics and search for Site stuff and look at the list - this thread was at the top because it was an MNHQ thread but that wouldn't be so for an ordinary thread. Normally in those circumstances I'd search for the thread using keywords remembered from the title but I can't seem to do that on the app.

At the moment, the icon on my screen still goes to the previous version and I have to go through Test Flight to get to this one. Will the icon switch to the new version when the old one expires (in 18 hours, apparently)

Also trying it on my iPad.

Like the 'Show original post' feature - though the first time I tried it, it showed my previous post, not Rebecca's. Worked properly the next time, though.

The colour choices for the background are too bright. Could we have some more subtle options?

Liking the pictures! Always didn't bother before with threads including pictures.
I don't like the big speech bubble things with names. But as no one else has mentioned it- maybe that's not new & I just hasn't updated recently!
They take up too much space IMO.

I signed up before realising that it is android-discriminatory.

Now that's interesting. I may take back those comments on 'My Topics' because last night I had a screen appear which contained only the topics (topics - not threads) I've visited most frequently which - if it wasn't a figment of my imagination and I could find it again - would likely stand in for My Topics.

Has the new App got some neat .....learning capability....... built in or had I had too much tea?
