DO NOT BE ALARMED. Mumsnet is going to be offline for a few hours SATURDAY OCTOBER 11

Hello everyone,

We're very sorry, but Mumsnet is going to be offline THIS COMING SATURDAY, October 11, from 6am(ish) to 2pm(ish) while Tech undertakes some essential maintenance. We're leaving our creaky old data home for a whizzy new high-tech place, and we need to move the furniture. (MNHQ itself isn't moving - we couldn't cope with that )

But! We've no intention of leaving you high and dry. If it's too early on a Saturday to think about facing real life, fear not. We've plumbed the archive and pulled together a selection of 25 of the finest threads in Mumsnet's history, and we'll be putting those on a holding page while we're offline. The long winter evenings morning will just fly by!

Very sorry for the inconvenience but we're afraid this one's unavoidable.

Strength and honour
MNHQ

It's... it's OK, everyone. It's all going to be fine.

We have to do it during UK 'wakey person' hours (I think that's what the tech people call them) because there are third parties involved.

WOMAN UP EVERYONE. Just remember, there actually aren't any other websites on the internet at all, so don't even think about looking at one.

@MrsCakesPrecognition

Aggghhh. It is 11+ results day too. My sanity will not survive.

Argh! Good luck to the mini-Precognition!

@LineRunner

What if the tech shit doesn't work properly? What then, eh? What if you press the big ON switch at 2pm and nothing happens or it all blows up and there's a small mushroom cloud over MN Towers?

I think we should be told.

Apparently then we just call the whole thing off and call in our pension plans. We've had a good 15 years.

RowanMumsnet · 09/10/2014 11:07

@LineRunner

Can we argue massively about nominate the 25 threads?

Only internally - you won't be able to post. Passive consumption is the order of the day! Remember, this is what life was like before about 1994, unless you sent telegrams to newspapers via carrier pigeon.

@ouryve

Mumsnet offline on my 45th birthday?

I feel betrayed.

Oh. We really have chosen the worst possible date haven't we? Someone will be chastised good and proper for this, oh yes.

Happy reading old threads Birthday! Flowers

JustineMumsnet · 09/10/2014 13:58

@JuniperTisane

Is Gransnet affected as well?

It is not! And you'd all be very welcome there I'm sure. No swearing, mind.

Me too ouryve! Well, not exactly 45th, but who's counting Grin

RowanMumsnet · 09/10/2014 14:14

EVERYBODY STOP HAVING RUDDY BIRTHDAYS

We're trying to hatch a plan to give you a small Gransnet outpost for the duration. They are staring at us thoughtfully over the tops of their glasses.

RowanMumsnet · 09/10/2014 14:17

We're really sorry MySpidey - we can't, we won't be able to have anything online at all while the move is in progress, other than the holding page. Maybe you could start a thread on Gransnet and direct your MN friends there?

RowanMumsnet · 09/10/2014 14:39

Net... Netwhat? Didn't catch what you said.

Now Gransnet... there's a fine site that you should all check out and get log-ins for toot sweet no arguing (and no swears).

Swearing Nan is undergoing a Gransnet-sponsored rehabilitation process and is currently writing a thought piece for the Telegraph on cultural tropes associated with age-enriched women.

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/10/2014 19:31

Glad you enjoyed the freds - we did have fun finding them all Grin

And we could mabee have a guest emotion from GN Wink

Thanks GNHQ love from MNHQ

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/10/2014 19:38

They were all on the holding page which has thankfully been put to bed now, but we will see if we can dig them out and post them up for you, because we've had a quiet day Grin
