If you have your children full time and started dating again at what point did you feel comfortable having them over when your kids are in bed? Im thinking around 6 months?

I think kids shouldn’t meet them before six months, at a minimum. When they start staying over would depend on the age and gender of your kids.

Satmod · 19/09/2026 16:22

Good god no. Sorry, you do you obviously and no judgement because - well, I don’t know you from adam!

but hell no I’m not having my teen daughters have to share living space with my boyfriend! I’ll stay at his, I’ll date him, I’ll go away on holiday with him but no flipping way at mine until… well many many many multiples of 6 months!

Satmod · 19/09/2026 16:22

Having over when kids are in bed for dinner and some wine and then he leaves?

You know your kids. So when it feels the right time. 😉

Brightbluesomething · 19/09/2026 16:26

There’s no way I’d ever do that! If they’re not ready to meet (and you really don’t know someone after 6 months) then they shouldn’t be in your home with your children. At all!
You’re essentially allowing someone you don’t know well around your kids whilst you’re asleep.
Just wait until they can meet properly and you’re sure of him. Plenty of men can keep up the facade for way longer than 6 months.

before 6 months?! That’s interesting, most people disagree with introducing before 6 months.

Lots of
parents have partners stay over when kids are asleep if they didn’t many lone parents wouldnt be able to date again and most do.

It’s clear that you want him to stay over in your home @StarClouds so not sure why you asked.
Have your children met him?

StarClouds · 19/09/2026 16:37

Im asking how long people wait, not IF

OP posts:
Brightbluesomething · 19/09/2026 16:37

Not sure why you’re asking if you’re only looking for people to agree with you. You’ll probably do what you want anyway.
As a single parent I choose to prioritise my teen daughter’s safety rather than bringing strangers to sleep in our home. And yes I have dated, but I’ve never had a man she hadn’t met sleep in our house.
We are clearly very different.

No, they really don’t.

Imagine one of your kids waking up in the night and finding a strange man in your bed.

Get a babysitter and go on dates. Do not let a man you’ve known for six months sleep in your children’s home without them knowing.

How old are your kids? I was a complete lone parent for the first 14 years of my son’s life and didn’t even bother trying to date during those years. My mum had so many different boyfriends while I was growing up and I found it embarrassing and hated it.
I met my now husband when my son was 14 and he was allowed to come to me for dinner every other weekend for the first year and then I let him stay over one night every other weekend during the 2nd year, he proposed and we moved in together on year 3. Been together 13 years now.
There were occasions throughout where my son was staying at a friends or with family on the odd occasion and I’d spend that time at my now husband’s place.

A year to meet
Then another 6 months building up a relationship put of our hone on short outings
Then popping in briefly for a cuppa/ building up to a meal/ evening, then being around for bedtime then building up to overnights.

Definitely wouldnt have had someone they have never met in my bed or in house. What if they woke up in the night?

I said kids shouldn’t meet them before six months, at a minimum. That’s literally what I wrote.

6 months is a boyfriend, not a partner.
NO, sleeping over before 24 month zone.
