Just going through a break up with someone I thought I loved very much but should have been aware it wasn’t going to work - we met just as he was splitting from
a long relationship and in hindsight I should have realised he wasn’t ready for another one. I’ve been crying uncontrollably and it hurts …but remembering some of awful things he said to me - the top two being:

1: on our first holiday in gorgeous Athens after we had been together for two years - I was so excited to be with him until he asked me to take a photo of him and another group of people so he could say to his family he was on a history trip rather than away with me.

2: I have some bad perimenopause and had said that I had quite bad anxiety. He said “don’t put that on me”. What a gent.

anyone got anything better?

‘I’ve been seeing someone else’ has to go down as the biggest stomach churner for me, and i’ve heard that twice now in my life 😐

JoyousWriter · 08/09/2026 00:22

"Yes, my ex wife has moved back in. Because of your jealousy". I only found out because I walked past and saw her unpacking her suitcases through the window!!

"I don't want any children with you - you can't look after the ones you've got". (I have zero self esteem but even I know that's not true).

"I don't love you, I never loved you. You knew this was just a short term thing".

am really sorry to hear that. I haven't heard that but i did find women’s underwear in his suitcase once. He said that he had lent his suitcase to his ex partner for her holiday. I mean I should have left him then.

I’m sorry, I hope you start to feel better soon. Be kind to yourself Kinder than he was. He sounds well, .. anyway .. it’s for the best, OP. Onwards and upwards. 🧸 💚

Yep “I don’t love you” is a common one isn’t it?

In fact said only the other day when we’re on a lovely day in Glasgow. I was so happy 😢

I think words aside any discovery that your partner is cheating has the same effect, i bet your stomach was in knots when you found the underwear like mine was hearing those words, unfortunately i was stupid enough to give her a second chance and got to hear it again 2 years later 😂 won’t be doing that again.

"You are not ruining Christmas for me" ( when I shared before the day that I was feeling sad that my dm had recently died and this was the first Christmas without her.

"This is no fun for me" (when I was in the process of being diagnosed with a potential life limiting illness and was scared and distressed)

Thankfully now an ex.

HighSchoolTeacher · 08/09/2026 00:35

"You are an unbearable, crushing burden" and "if you make your suicide look like an accident, people will get over it quicker".

MyWildOliveGoose · 08/09/2026 00:39

” I cheated on you because you spend too much time with your kids, and not enough time with me” this was after arriving at his house Christmas Eve and finding a used condom on his bedside table.

mind, I was with him every other weekend whilst the kids were at their dads, and he was with me weekends that they weren’t..

in hindsight, I felt emotionally claustrophobic the whole time because he always wanted my time and I wanted to enjoy time with my children before they were teens and no longer interested in me lol

On holiday shortly after my DF died and just before DH walked out, he had taken our 2yr old DS to the zoo for the morning. Fast forward to when he left he said “that trip I had to the zoo with DS helped me make my decision. I had such a lovely time and I realised it was because you weren’t there and it was just me and him”

Pinkrollers · 08/09/2026 00:58

"I told my parents you are still married to and living with your ex husband"

"I enjoy nothing about our relationship. I packaged myself up as something you would want up like a sociopath does. It made me feel good to see you happy. I hated everything we ever did together, including sex."

"I don't like and cannot cope with your child."

"You are being angry, aggressive and paranoid."

He was cheating. Turns out he told everyone who wasn't a mutual the first and last ones. I had been separated and divorced over 5 years. Owened my own home and everything. Well rid.

Nightswimmer80 · 08/09/2026 02:24

From the ex:

"Sex is a chore"

"You're not a priority in my life"

are the two shockers that stand out for me.

My husband said shut up you stupid fucking bitch on our wedding day. He’s a STBXH.

He also once said he’d murder me if he could get away with it.

My mother once said when I was going through the usual bitchy school friends phase: well it’s not surprising you haven’t got any friends.

People can be brutal.

grinandslothit · 08/09/2026 03:38

On Christmas Eve after I had just finished talking with my mother who was in hospital he comes in to tell me, he doesn't love me anymore

And then another time he told me. no, I don't want children with you. you're too old

Fortunately he is an exH who now lives alone in a bedsit

pawsedforthought · 08/09/2026 07:31

On mother's day, when I was down because he couldn't even be bothered to make me a cup of tea or help DD 6 to mark the day - "you don't matter"

HussleMe · 08/09/2026 07:58

He said my face had ‘a natural sneer’

That was a number of years ago and I am very aware of my face now, every day, to this day.

Digsysdiner1 · 08/09/2026 08:05

"no wonder he used to smack you about" said by boyfriend of 6 months after I disagreed about where to go for something to eat. He knew my ex husband had been extremely abusive. He was an ex from that day forward.

sharksnip · 08/09/2026 08:53

“You’re a waste of space fucking do us all a favour and kill yourself”

by a complete stranger in Marks and Sparks carpark last week.

im a disabled wheelchair user.

sparrownetsuke · 08/09/2026 09:00

Do you even know who the father is, you slut? My charming sister when I was unexpectedly pregnant.

She topped that by yelling at me for telling my parents on the phone with my BIL in the room. It was the old days of landlines and they were travelling. Not sure why she didn't tell him to leave the room to give me privacy but apparently I didn't need to tell them.

So glad we are NC these days.

WarmSeaBreeze · 08/09/2026 09:01

A tiny selection,

  • That everyone hates me,
  • Flicking between 2 photos he'd just taken, repeating ugly, not ugly
  • Telling me my thoughts were mad as I didn't eat enough (he screamed at me so much I couldn't eat and dropped to 6.5 stone)
  • Once we'd split up that men would only want me for the house I own
A real charmer who was having an affair, and that was just the tip of the iceberg. Happy to report I'm 10 years free 🎉
Themsofcoffee · 08/09/2026 09:06

Probably not the worst thing ever said to me, but a friend said that me and my brothers names were too basic and it was as if my mother couldn't be bothered to think of better names.! This from a friend . She then proceeded to pronounce our names with a gormless sort of grunt 'Ruth' 'John'. (Not the actual names).

As an adult I have no problem with my name. A few famous, glam, talented ppl have the name and if it's good enough for them...

TishHope · 08/09/2026 09:09

You count for nothing
You're so selfish
I love you but I don't like you
You're a Jonah - you bring bad luck wherever you go
You're a narcissist

Just a few selections said to me by my mother when I was a child.

I've had partners, ex husbands say some pretty shit stuff, but none has stayed with me like the things my mother used to say to me.

GreyCarpet · 08/09/2026 09:11

In the last conversation I ever had with my mother, she told me that I might not remember but my dad used to hit me when I was a child. I was actually 17 the last time he hit me and it only stopped because he moved out. It happened almost daily from when I was quite a young child.

Might not remember? When I started dating, I would dump boys/men who didn't hit me because I believed that it meant they didn't care about me if I didn't make them angry. I was absolutely terrified of my parents growing up. I was in my 30s before I internalised that violence had no place in a relationship. Before that, I would try and goad men into hitting me as proof that they cared.

Anyway, I told her that it just meant that she wasn't capable of protecting children given it had never bothered her.

Her reply was, "Of course it bothered me. Didn't you notice that I always left the room so I didn't have to see it?"

That's probably the worst thing she or anyone has ever said to me.

Mistachio · 08/09/2026 09:11

Funnily enough when I think back to my worst relationship I can’t think of anything he said. It was the things he did. God he was vile.
