The worst thing anyone has said to you?

Just going through a break up with someone I thought I loved very much but should have been aware it wasn’t going to work - we met just as he was splitting from
a long relationship and in hindsight I should have realised he wasn’t ready for another one. I’ve been crying uncontrollably and it hurts …but remembering some of awful things he said to me - the top two being:

1: on our first holiday in gorgeous Athens after we had been together for two years - I was so excited to be with him until he asked me to take a photo of him and another group of people so he could say to his family he was on a history trip rather than away with me.

2: I have some bad perimenopause and had said that I had quite bad anxiety. He said “don’t put that on me”. What a gent.

anyone got anything better?

I've had partners, ex husbands say some pretty shit stuff, but none has stayed with me like the things my mother used to say to me.

Oh, absolutely Flowers

TurtleCavalryIsSeriousShit · 08/09/2026 09:39

@GreyCarpet Her reply was, "Of course it bothered me. Didn't you notice that I always left the room so I didn't have to see it?"

Omg! I laughed when I read this, but in an incredulous way.

My son was in hospital with sepsis and a bone infection. He was incredibly sick and getting debridements in theater twice a week for 3 months. (He is paraplegic) We then heard that my DH's visa had been rejected and he needed to leave the country.

I'm telling my sister all this over WhatsApp and her reply was: "Oh no! I really think you guys need to turn to God now. That is the only way you will ever be okay again."

I left her on read and didn't speak to her for 5 months until she phoned to apologise for the bad timing and insinuating that all the bad things happening to us was because we are atheists.

My mother

'God,your fat downstairs and not enough upstairs' (she was a size 30,I was a 12 but my arse was too big and my tits too small apparently)

'Your not my favourite,in fact I don't love you at all'

'What did you do to lead him on?'

'You deserved it,don't wind him up'

'You look awful,no matter what you wear'

'I hope you die first so I can dance on your grave'

'Your too thick to be educated-we don't have money to waste on you' (money was there when it was my brother's time for college/driving lessons/stuff for their homes etc)

'Well, you do encourage the bullies' (and did nothing to stop them-in fact she would befriend their mothers)

'Why can't you be more like golden child brother?' (The same brother that is a druggie, belts her if he can't get his own way, steals from her, doesnt have a job for long if he gets one at all, lies to her face and much more but is totally perfect in her eyes)

She's a total narc,im nc with her and she claims she can't understand why!

The worst was my darling, brave and beautiful friend

She was a warrior to the end,but just as cancer was about to take her,her bastard boyfriend told her 'hurry up and fucking die-i want to move in with my real girlfriend'

She died the following week and that arsehole was sat weeping, wailing and making a show of himself in the front row of the crematorium

I watched him in disgust and wanted to say something, but a funeral wasn't the right place to do it (and then I had to race off to get the kids from school)

Got loads of sympathy from all her other mates and moved in with the other woman the next day

Apparently 'life has to go on!'

Tosser

I’m so glad I’ve got a terrible memory but my dad said ‘you were a wicked child’ the one time I tried to talk to him about how abusive he was and still was. Although it made me giggle by that point because if I see you say mean things to people to shut them up, wether it’s me or someone else, I know you’re a miserable wrongun.

omghereistrouble · 08/09/2026 10:01

after 8 years my abusive ex had a stroke and was in hospital. i thought that i would have to put up with him for the rest of my life but after assaulting me 3 days after his stroke at his bedside, i went home thought about it decided not to go on anymore; got house put in my name etc. when i rang him told him i would not be seeing him anymore, that we were finished his answer floored me but makes me laugh now. the reply? 'but i have not hit you lately?'

Dexternight · 08/09/2026 10:02

This thread is very depressing.
There are good people in the world who will always outweigh the bad ones. 💐

hotmumshit · 08/09/2026 10:03

'Youre ugly you are' 'noone likes you' and plenty more where that came from

ItsAlwaysTwins · 08/09/2026 10:40

My dad once told me I’d gained weight. I had, about 2 stone. But I was shocked he said it. It certainly made me lose it very fast.

It makes me laugh in the same way too, now.

I got home and told my then husband. He was brilliant. When we split up 4 months later, he told me he would always be there for me and to always call on me if I needed anything because he didn’t want me to ever feel like she was my only option.

I never did but I knew that he meant it.

The message of this thread is ‘nasty ass people will say a lot of shit about you that aint true’.

The message of this thread is ‘nasty ass people will say a lot of shit about you that aint true’.

Was also thinking this.

All of these comments speak so much about the people who say them.

And virtually nothing about the recipients.

I hope you all realise this xx

Alwaystired23 · 08/09/2026 11:13

"If I really loved you, I would have married you by now".

"People look at us and wonder why we're together, because your more attractive. But once they get to know you, they realise you have no personality".

"Chubby chucker and the fats boys" was my nickname.

"None of my friends like you"

"Fuck you, you stupid bitch"
And so much more...

Said by the same ex, who, when I finally found the strength to leave, decided he did in fact love me and want to marry me. Too late dick head.

speakball · 08/09/2026 11:16

@GreyCarpet Your ex is doing love right. Your sister though, it makes you feel like they’re waiting for bad shit to happen to you to prove them right and boy could she not wait to reel that line out. as if we don’t all know Christians who’ve had god awful shit fall on them just the same as those of us without the creator of all known things on our side. I’d have been tempted to say something like ‘if hanging around with your version of god means you end up saying stuff like that to people when they need your humanity? Well you can bloody keep it.’

I hope the weight you lost was your male parent.

HorseandHeron · 08/09/2026 11:22

There's nothing any of us can do about awful things our parents say said to us in childhood, (except asap go NC) But I hope anyone reading this thread realises that no friend or partner requires a second chance. The first time any partner says something unfair and awful to you, end it. If a friend does, don't ever get back in touch with them, and start making new friends.

Friendlygingercat · 08/09/2026 11:55

When I was renting a neighbour sent workpeople onto my property without permission. When I went to speak to her about it I told her

"If you need access to my property I will not unreasonably refuse. But you MUST contact me beforehand and get my permission before you employ the workmen. Put a note through my door and Ill come around to discuss terms."

She looked at me as if I was speaking a foreign language and said "I don't need your permission. Your only a tenant."

This from someone who was not even born in this country. I never forgave her for that. I wont tell you what I did in revenge or how many times i did it. I can be a vengeful bitch.

I bloody hate neighbours.

“You’re a waste of space fucking do us all a favour and kill yourself”

by a complete stranger in Marks and Sparks carpark last week.

im a disabled wheelchair user.

What an absolute vile specimen

😂 my dad was lovely! He was right to mention it as he did me an enormous favour. When I lost the 2 stone, my husband said ‘I didn’t like to mention it’ and admitted he hated it. I’ve told him he must mention it if it ever happens again.

opalfruits76 · 08/09/2026 12:03

I was called a fat slob by my mother- I was a size 8

eta- was at university undertaking a teaching degree

daisyydaisyy · 08/09/2026 12:10

My ex once said “everything you touch rots”. I have not had good luck in my life and that only cemented what I think about myself. It was so horrible and malicious. He’s engaged now; I’m in an on-and-off relationship. Just goes to show doesn’t it.

shhblackbag · 08/09/2026 12:17

He didn't say anything. But he very calmy locked at me as I went by him in my wheelchair. Then he spat at me. Completely unprovoked. A complete stranger and in public, although it was early in the morning, and no one else was around. It was in 2007, and I will never forget it, ever.

I was shocked to silence and remember going home to shower. I have always known that many people hate disabled people. That was the first time I realised how deeply it runs for some.

He said my face had ‘a natural sneer’

That was a number of years ago and I am very aware of my face now, every day, to this day.

He has my resting bitch face to add to that.

Oh my - these stories are really shocking
😮
People can be so nasty.

"no wonder he used to smack you about" said by boyfriend of 6 months after I disagreed about where to go for something to eat. He knew my ex husband had been extremely abusive. He was an ex from that day forward.

Yes. I've heard this.
"Makes no wonder your ex kicked the fuck out of you"
He's joined a few of the other exes on this post, in a miserable bedsit.
It's what they deserve.

"You are an unbearable, crushing burden" and "if you make your suicide look like an accident, people will get over it quicker".

Jesus, I think you win the thread. I’m so sorry - utterly unforgivable.

RosesAndHellebores · 08/09/2026 12:27

Mother:

"If abortion had been legal, I'd have had one" and
"No you can't have the pink dress, pink is fkr pretty girls".

But MIL topped it after: miscarriage at 17 weeks, MMC at 12 weeks, ds (perfect at 36.3 but I had an epidural), and after DS 2 died at 27 weeks (heart condition not compatible with life) "it's such a shame you can't perform". I had DD 51 weeks later, so my childbearing was resolved and it was 29 years ago. Sadly, she's 90 and frail now. I don't put myself out for her.
