Would you date a bisexual man?

I'm looking for a bit of advice on whether I should pursue a relationship with a man I used to work with.

He was crazy about me (I don't know why) when we used to work together years ago. He was in his 20s, a bit wild but he was a laugh. I liked him as a person and he was so sweet to me but the fact that he's bisexual put me off him. It was just too weird for me to deal with. I left that workplace coming up for 5 years ago and haven't seen him since.

I've recently bumped into him in the park and he's lost weight, looking healthier and gotten a new job. He was very happy to see me and being very nice. He told me that he hasn't stopped thinking about me since. He wants to take me out. I gave him my Instagram and he told me that he'd message me when he got home.

Should I just go on a date with him and see how it goes? He seems more mature and relaxed these days, I'm getting older now and can't afford to be too picky in the dating market. However I just don't know if I can overlook his sexuality. 😔

I wouldn’t. But I think that’s a personal preference. I don’t think it’s an absolute no it can’t work. It wouldn’t work for me but then there are lots of people I wouldn’t date for different reasons that are not the same reasons as other people. Other people wouldn’t date some of the people I have dated. If you are fine with it then that’s all that matters. You have to decide this for yourself, like some people won’t date short men, poor men, men with kids, men without kids, older men, younger men etc. We can’t tell you if you are fine to date a bisexual man, no more than you can tell me I am fine to date an older man,

thisfilmisboring123 · 05/09/2026 19:55

No.

ColadhSamh · 05/09/2026 19:57

It shouldn't make any difference who he has dated in the past, male or female. It's how he is now, is he in a relationship, is he still being promiscuous?
When he contacts you, arrange to see him. Work out what he wants and what his expectations are. Then make a decision.

Strange responses which seem to be based on his bisexuality. What difference does that make. 😕

Lugol · 05/09/2026 19:58

I've said it before on these threads, I worked for years in the gay village in Manchester and knew many bi men. I had bi men as friends and employed a couple.

Appreciating that this was the gay scene and maybe men that wandered onto those streets where more promiscuous than those that didn't, I will say that I saw enough that would mean I would never date a bisexual man and for the record neither would the majority of gay men.

itspubnight · 05/09/2026 19:59

Nope

flowersplease · 05/09/2026 20:00

Eugh, there is always an anti bisexual rhetoric on here whenever this is brought up.

Yes, I would (and have) as I’m also bisexual. Makes little difference, there is a higher likelihood they would be a feminist ime.

DidYeAye16 · 05/09/2026 20:00

You can choose not to date someone for whatever reason you choose. Just because someone is bisexual it doesn't mean they won't be monogamous.

I wouldn't date a bisexual man, and il be completely honest why. Visioning my partner being with another man taking it up the arse or giving oral sex, would be a complete turn off to me, as I personally find it emascualting.

seahorsessky · 05/09/2026 20:01

I wouldn't care if he's heterosexual or bi, as long as he's monogamous. If a man wanted to sleep with anyone else/have an open relationship, that's his right, but I wouldn't date him.
My only worry would be if he'd grown up in a homophobic environment and felt he had to hide things, but that wouldn't be his fault.

Chucklebunnie · 05/09/2026 20:01

Isn’t it rather homophobic to give a blanket ‘no’ in response?

TheEdgyMoose · 05/09/2026 20:02

Crushed23 · 05/09/2026 19:49

Absolutely not, no.

I’m a heterosexual woman and only attracted to heterosexual men.

How do you know all the men you are attracted to are heterosexual?

Yes, I don't know if I could stop myself imagining that during sex. 😕 He is very sexy, it's not really his looks but he just oozes sexuality if that makes sense 😂 like a, sexual aura.

I'm attracted to that part of him and he is sweet and funny.

Personally, I don’t think I’d date a bisexual man. Knowing he’d had relationships with men would probably make me feel uncomfortable and for me, would affect the attraction. It’s nothing against bisexual men at all, it’s simply not something I’d feel comfortable with in a partner. Everyone has their own preferences.

grinandslothit · 05/09/2026 20:08

Unfortunately you're coming across a bit desperate and that makes you vulnerable

He has red flags all over that he didn't treat his past girlfriend very well he's been promiscuous and he also likes men

I would steer clear

DreamingOfGeneHunt · 05/09/2026 20:09

I would, I'm a bisexual woman myself.

IDasIX · 05/09/2026 20:09

The fact you think bisexuality weird is, for me, the main reason not to date him. That’s not fair on him.

I can’t believe the replies on here!

plsdontlookatme · 05/09/2026 20:10

If it is something that weird you out then I don't think it is worth pursuing unfortunately.

Being bisexual, or liking men, is in no way a red flag.

No why would it be homophobic?

OP asked the question would you date a bisexual man and posters are answering no which is their answer.

Are you one of those people that thinks anyone who doesn't automatically want to date a bi man is homophobic?

FrootyCider · 05/09/2026 20:12

My and my DH are both bisexual and I'm the formerly (very) promiscuous one. My past doesn't dictate my future any more that husband's does. He could turn around and cheat on me tomorrow despite his very sensible history. The thing that you found icky about him had nothing to do with his sexuality and everything to do with him being disrespectful of his relationship. THAT is the red flag, not the sexuality.

TheEdgyMoose · 05/09/2026 20:12

"he never stopped flirting with me and trying it on even when he had a girlfriend"
It wouldn't bother me that he is bisexual but I'd find this really off putting. I'm not sure I'd ever be able to trust him.

"I'm getting older now and can't afford to be too picky in the dating market."
Yes you can. You don't sound sure about this guy at all. Don't go out with someone just because you're scared you won't find someone else. That is not a route to a happy relationship. I stayed in an unhappy relationship for a long time because I was scared of being alone. I will always regret that wasted time.

There's no harm in going on a date and seeing how it goes but only if you actually want to.

Bogstandardname · 05/09/2026 20:14

Yuk. No.

Biscuitsforbreakfastt · 05/09/2026 20:17

God some of the replies on here are just awful. Although, I do find it hugely amusing that there will be loads of the posters who say, “eww no way!!” when they are unwittingly dating/living/married to men who if not openly bisexual are certainly bi-curious.

And yes, I have and I do have relationships with bi people.

FancyLilacHare · 05/09/2026 20:18

No

Bogstandardname · 05/09/2026 20:14

Yuk. No.

No would suffice. Yuk just makes you sound like a cunt.
