Last night my DH told me that the average couple have sex 3 times a week ...
I have told him that has to be absolute Bolleaux and that I will put it to Mumsnet.
He tried to back track and say that Mumsnet wasn't a good example of the population to ask such information - ROFL
Um so 50,000+ (how many members does MN have now?) women with children is not a good cross section?

FWIW: I think Once a week is a very very active sexlife Chez Ghosty ... but it is more like twice a month here

Anyway, PLEASE help me out here girls - SURELY 3 times a week CAN'T be the average for people with kids???

I alwsys reckon if people are having sex nearly every day, it must be either very quick or else at least one of them has little to do during the day

Sorry Mr G, yours is a common male made-up statistic used to shame your partner into disporing herself more readily about the bedroom when what she really needs is an early night and a good book.

Of course there are a few who fall outside the statistical average who are at it non stop like crane flies, but the surveys that come up with these figures have usually questioned psychology students, porn mag readers, teenagers, empty nesters or those working in the sex industry.

There are also surveys that show that men who do most housework are fitter, more attractive and get more.

Dh never believes those surveys though.

Average couple where did he get this statistic from? It is a well known fact that surveys done on this kind of thing are always unreliable. People tend not to admit the lack of sex in their lives. It just seems to be more recently that some people are more open about admitting to hardly having sex, particularly when kids come along. We've had months go by without sex. Never been 3 times a week since we had the children, maybe 3 times in a month but often less these days - too tired and prefer curling up in bed with a book

We go through phases too, sometimes every night, and sometimes once a week but usually not less these days, although when our children were smaller, it was probably lessToday DH was off work for a doctor's appointment with DS2 and we had some afternoon delight while they were all at school after the appointment. It probably all averages out to about three times a week though, but we try to keep this really good part of our relationship alive because it helps all the other parts of the relationship. And the more you do it the more you want it. And he does his share around the house even though he has a stressful job and long commute so I'm usually not seething with resentment at him.
