Hello

I'm Mouse, well normally! [hgrin]

Welcome to the Bus. We are a mixed bunch of Babes, some of us drink, some of us don't and some of us are trying to find out the best way to cut down or stop completely.

There is plenty of room on the Bus for everyone so, come say hi. [hsmile]

saf the 'professional' regulations are such a pita... I did some work with a group of psychotherapists who were setting themselves up as a charity (now that was an interesting group to work with Shock) and they had endless discussions about BACP registration and requirements. Of course it is really important the people offering help are properly trained and supported, but you're right it does seem like a bit of a monopoly in terms of registration, accredited training, accredited supervision etc.

Have you thought about offering telephone / skype / email counselling? There must be lots of people who live in similarly isolated situations who cannot physically get to see a counsellor/coach.

Mwahahahahahahahouseface · 18/10/2011 13:50

Sorry to butt in, just to say hi, all went well with Nemo at the hospital, back in another 4 months for more eye tests and DD has been an absolute super star for her braces. She's got them in and has managed some food.

Oh, and some chocolate! Grin

As you were xxxx

Hi mouse that is lovely to hear, you must have been anxious about nemo (even though it sounds like he is making a lot of progress).

obrigada · 18/10/2011 14:11

Afternoon all, just checking in! Have signed up for a yoga class this evening, it's been a long time since I have done anything for myself and figured this might be a good place to start Grin

swallowedAfly · 18/10/2011 15:12

good news mouse Smile

yes venus - none of it is legal requirement and who knows if it ever will be but it is a marketing feat none the less iyswim - there's no actual requirement to be with the bacp and nothing to suggest it's any better than other professional body for counsellors but the marketing spin is remarkable in that i think people actually believe it's proof of a 'real' counsellor or a higher degree of training. which it's not - it's proof they put thousands into one orgs pockets.

no idea how you'd market yourself to do online support.

venusandallsouls · 18/10/2011 15:41

online! (OK apologies for the glib answer). A colleague of mine is an online coach - she doesn't want a huge income, just a start towards making some kind of income. She gets most of her work though a very cheap ad in a local newsletter which is distributed in her remote and rural location.

You could always start by doing some research - google counselling online, and see what other people do. It may not the be the thing for you, but it may give you some ideas.

ScareyFairenuff · 18/10/2011 17:05

Mouse that's really good news about Nemo Smile

My dd is getting braces at the end of next week so I have made a note to get her some chocolate Grin. Do they advise soft foods to start with or are they okay to chew?

Obrigada good luck with the yoga. I find it a bit hard still and am working up to it with pilates.

Lots of good ideas about starting up businesses. I'm going to look at a little shop for sale this evening as DH also wants a change from his corporate workplace!

Saf if nothing else comes along how about considering working as a TA in school, particularly learning support or SEN where counselling is often part of the role. Much less stressful than teaching but you would have tons of knowledge and experience to bring to the job and be really valued. Of course the pay is crap but you get all the holidays which is brilliant when you have small children.

obrigada · 18/10/2011 17:12

Thanks Faire Grin

MsGee · 18/10/2011 17:51

Morning all [hsmile]
Went to my first yoga class last night and thoroughly enjoyed it, first half of glass was aerobic exercises and second half yoga!

swallowedAfly · 19/10/2011 10:24

well done cidre Smile

very cold here too hauntmenow!

take it you mean class not glass obrigada? Grin i love yoga - glad you enjoyed it.

day 2 here. full of cold still.

just had some lovely wool and bamboo knitting needles arrive - going to reteach myself how to knit - can remember basic stitch but need to look up how to cast on. have ordered a beginners book which aims to get you making things rather than getting too bogged down with technicalities. been threatening to do this for ages.

hauntmenow · 19/10/2011 10:35

class not glass [hsmile]

When I was very much on the down escalator a friend responded to my 'God I can't wait to get home and open a bottle' with 'I've got yoga, it's as good as a glass of wine'. At the time I thought:

a) A glass [hconfused]
b) smug cow

obrigada · 19/10/2011 10:55

glass .... oooops [hgrin]

venusandallsouls · 19/10/2011 15:48

The babes are quiet today. All working hard?

ThursoVeryWitchy · 19/10/2011 16:03

Hello Venus, and hello all,

I have done just over 2000 words of a 3000 word report today, and didn't let myself connect to the internet!!

Time for proof reading, now, and deciding that it's all a load of rubbish!!

Lots of love
xxx

ScareyFairenuff · 19/10/2011 16:26

Hello babes Smile

Yes very quiet on the bus today Hmm Grin

Or are we all just hibernating . . .

I'm coming up north next weeks ladies, what should I pack for a trip to Blackpool. Can't wait! But is it very cold? brrr

Mwahahahahahahahouseface · 19/10/2011 17:23

Afternoon Babes

Scarey - one word........ layers! Pack plenty of thin layers that you can load up on. It's freezing in Blackpool currently, we have friends near there and they've had blasting icey winds all weekend and week so far. Brrrrrrrrr ---> Sad that's how cold you'll be! Grin

The prom is great when it's chilly, you can wander up and down and get lovely warm food to keep you going. Fresh fish n chips, hot chocolate, tea etc...... go onto the pleasure beach, (you can get cheap wristbands online assuming it's still open?) go up in the tower to see the ballroom, there's a Sea-life centre and the Sandcastle swimming centre..........

There is also an ice rink with 'Fire and Ice' type shows, and there's always a show on somewhere......

I think the lights are on soon?

I love Blackpool, I'm a northern lass at heart and Blackpool holds so many memories for me. Nice ones, not drunken ones Smile

There's a Zoo there too I think?

I got Nemo his nursery uniform today. It has a little logo on and everything! he looks so cute in it. Smile

Cidre - CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU! I knew you could do it! Fantastic to see your name change. I'm so proud of you in a non patronising way Smile

saf - well done on day 2. Sorry that you are full of germs x

MsGee - where are you?

Silver - please keep us updated with how your mum is?

Am here . Have been to London, running a training course, imparting my wisdom Grin. Had an odd moment where I got all emotional but otherwise all good. Just need to do another bid tonight and then I can breathe a bit easier.

Hope everyone ok, looks like it's been quiet on here.

hauntmenow · 19/10/2011 18:41

Hi MsGee it is quiet, isn't it.

Good luck with your bid writing. I'm off out for a meeting tonight, real life has been in the way recently- all good, but lovely DH pointed out I've not been for 2 weeks.
