Welcome to the Bus. We are a mixed bunch of Babes, some of us drink, some of us don't and some of us are trying to find out the best way to cut down or stop completely.

swallow His drinking has brought us very near to separating, we have been tog for near on 20 years. Only after he had complete breakdown earlier this year and nearly killing himself, has he finally admitted that he has a drink problem. Well guess that is a start.

Thanks for the encouragement Saf but it's not my final goal just a little mini one. Like you, I need goals to keep me motivated .

I stopped for petrol on the way home (had to because the light was on, ooops) but didn't buy any wine at the same time, yay! Why do they sell alcohol in petrol stations anyway, ffs . Don't they know loads of alkies are just trying to get home sober? .

i'm wavering faire. kids film on, have already done food and it's only quarter to six! i fancy a baileys with lots of ice. i'm rubbish at this at the minute. i can't remember what the point is as dumb as that sounds.

Me too (hands up) to not drinking tonight - have a sense of complacency that means my thinking is 'well clearly you don't have a drink problem having not drunk for xxx days so one half glass won't hurt' - who am I kidding.

And it is still a choice that I make everyday. Life is just so much easier without all the heartache and melodrama that always accompanied my drinking.

Congrats Ma - you are obviously very well regarded at your work

Went to a meeting last night, and I got cake and a card, off to another one tonight to meet a friend who is having a bit of a hard time.

It's freezing here, just taken the puppy out, and my hands still haven't defrosted, Could be another long cold winter. Please - can we not have all the snow we had last year!

I know Saf it can all get very confusing. Do I have a problem, don't I? . All I know is that I don't want to drink like I used to. It was not good for my health, a bad example to my dcs, a waste of money and most days I felt like crap.

Going on the diet helped me enormously. It gave me a focus beyond the drinking. Even now though I have days when I come off the diet and eat the rubbish I've been craving. Non diet days are the days when I drink. So I am literally all or nothing.

I have started to realise that I can indulge foodwise on non diet days without alcohol. Shock, horror, newsflash. Drinking and eating rubbish always went together for me. It was wine, crisps, nuts and sweets or healthy dinner, no alcohol.

So I am gradually realising that even on non diet days (usually one day a fortnight if I want to lose anything) I don't have to drink to enjoy those 'treats'.

If I didn't have the weight loss goal I don't really know how I would motivate myself. I suppose I will have to think of something else eventually. But just maintaining a healthy lifestyle is always going to be important, especially with middle age spread to contend with .

Just to annoy you all, I am feeling quite boing about Christmas, went to a lovely Xmas market last night, had a half day and went to Westfield this afternoon and nearly got all my presents in one go! Tomorrow is baking and freezing day.
If you knew me in RL you just wouldn't recognise all this enthusiasm. When I used to live in an alcoholic fog I was all 'bah humbug', no joy about me at all. I am so grateful that I have been able to kick the habit, I cope so much better with everything!
blossom now is the time to look after number 1, it sounds like you have had a really awful time, but you have to look after, and out for, yourself before you can help anyone else.

yes, confusing faire. i think sometimes i've had a problem and sometimes i haven't. i don't identify with 'alcoholic' as a label but i identify with alcoholic/addict thinking and behaviour because i've certainly visited plenty of times.

i've been resisting the drink so far by putting it off. tricky though because i know i just want literally one and there isn't any harm in that really. grrr. the deliberating is doing my head in.

sorry folks i should probably back off from here a bit and not be going on about alcohol when people are trying to avoid it.

The thing is Saf, you could have it if that's what you want but equally if you just want one then it's not too difficult to go without it really is it.

Putting it off is a great strategy because you know the feeling will pass. I don't think you should back off talking about it, there are probably others in exactly the same situation as you and interested in your thoughts and feelings.

How will you feel in the morning if you a) drink or b) don't drink. Which would make you feel good tomorrow. I know I am always relieved to wake up knowing I didn't drink the night before. Things are a lot clearer in the morning. Either way, please don't feel you can't post about it x

Blimey SAF that is the whole point of this thread, to talk about IT. Most of us can't talk about it in RL, and all posts help some-one in some way or other. You don't have to lable yourself one way or another either.
