Hello Smile

I'm Mouse. I've been sober for over a month now, thanks to the support of posters on this and previous threads.

No matter where you are up to with your sobriety, you'll find someone here who has been in your shoes!

Come and meet the other Brave Babes........

And here are the other threads for those who want to read them.

Talking of Nigella, I've got her new book Kitchen. Love it. Big, beautiful book of great recipes though loads have alcohol in them...

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 20:33

JWN - what do you mean a 'tin of beans'? Surely your pantry shelves are stoacked with jars of home made chutneys and jams Grin

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 20:35

'stocked' - another scottish variation slipping in there.

Lucilastic · 09/09/2010 20:35

Thanks Christina. That drunken incident causes me most shame as it involved my daughter.
I have done way worse things drunk as a singleton. Blush
I need to sort out my act or my kids will be teenagers who are ashamed to bring friends home because their mum is a pathetic old lush.

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 20:36

Hi Christi - feeling better tonight? When is your next interview?

gettingwrinkly · 09/09/2010 20:39

Evening,
God I want a drink - (not going to have one)does this ever get easier? Tried doin construcive things,bu I feel really bored and the mantra keeps running through my head 'go to Sainsbury's, go to Sainsbury's'

GGGrrrr Angry

I will do it (make it through tonight without a drink I mean, not go to Sainsbury's!)

ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/09/2010 20:44

lucilastic my DD1's first birthday party was a booze and coke binge Blush

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 20:45

Luci, can you hold onto that incident as something that happened that you can learn from and then move on. Once you have learned that particular lesson you do not need to keep going back and revisiting that memory - it no longer serves a purpose.

Write it down like this:

I have learnt that ...... (e.g. I have learnt that being drunk on x occassion is a bad idea)
I can avoid .....(that bad thing) happening by..... (not being drunk)
I can avoid being drunk by .....(e.g. finding an alternative non-alcoholic drink)

Then leave those shameful feelings behind. Your dd won't rememeber and in particular she won't remember when you have all her other birthday memories 4th 5th 6th ..... 21st... an so on, when you are smiling and supportive and sober.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/09/2010 20:46

venus no date set yet but in the next few weeks... apparently

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 20:50

Hi wrinkly, it does get easier in general in that the feeling happen less often. And in my opinion it is really worth sticking to being sober for a good few days just to experience how nice it is when you can go through an evening and ENJOY being sober.

Do you have any ice-cream or chocolate that you can eat? (If not, don't go to Sainsburys to get some)? What else could you find that is sweet? If all else fails try cleaning your teeth with lots of toothpaste. You would not like the taste of wine after that.

gettingwrinkly · 09/09/2010 20:58

Thanks Venus :)

I've already had a bar of chocolate and the leftover (large) portion of lasagne - good job I've not eat much for the past fortnight!

Feeling a bit better now, craving has worn off. One hour till shop closes, going to have another cup of tea.

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:08

Well, the girls are on their way to Alicante......and I am sat here with a strawberry, elderflower & water watching telly with my feet up Sad
Mind you, I would have been shitfaced by now and christ knows what by the morming and put paid to having a good time for the rest of the trip!
Probably all for the best Hmm

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:11

Hi munky, that was a tough decision, but you are doing the right thing to 'watch the film to the end' and see just how messily it might end.

Your strawberry and elderflower sound nice though, much nicer than cheap, sour wine. You could always be a little devil and call them early tomorrow morning to gloat about how well you feel while they can hardly open their eyes and groan.

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:37

Now there's a thought Venus.....they will be messy Grin

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:38

.....but would that make me a smug git?

gettingeasier · 09/09/2010 21:46

Bit grumpy but hanging in there as wrinkly said I am struggling tonight.

Thinking of eyes that arent totally bloodshot in the morning

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:53

Keep going getting, day nearly done (well, shops are shut anywayWink)

gettingeasier · 09/09/2010 21:55

Thanks munky isnt it depressing wishing the evening away

munkymaz · 09/09/2010 21:56

DH sat having a large whiskey.....off to make some hot choc and then bed for me, me thinks. Night all and sleep well.

gettingwrinkly · 09/09/2010 21:57

Made it! Well nearly & I can't get there in the next 5 minutes anyway, feel great now Grin
Well done getting from getting - "The 2 Gettings"

jesuswhatnext · 09/09/2010 22:00

gahhhhh, i am knackered and i have given up! i will finish the bloody job in the morning - i have found a tin of lychees, sell by date 2001 Blush, god knows why i bought them in the first place, also, a tin of chesnut puree circa 1995! Grin, ditto! Grin

well done all you hangers-in! you are absolute stars!! Smile, nearly another day gone, a day nearer feeling so much better, so much more in control of your own destiny - i cant believe how far we have all come!

jesuswhatnext · 09/09/2010 22:03

btw - you wont always be wishing the evening away, it really does get easier - once the habit is broken and the toxins are on the way out, it looks a whole lot rosier!

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 22:09

JWN, we had a cupboard full of tins that we'd bought for the potential Y2K disaster at the Millenium Blush
