No matter where you are up to with your sobriety, you'll find someone here who has been in your shoes!

Come and meet the other Brave Babes........

I never took drugs (maybe smoked pot half a dozen times).

However, I think this is because I was initially afraid of drugs; and I grew up in the provinces. By the time my nice middle class friends got round to dabbling with cocaine in their mid 20s, I was NOT the sort of person you offer cocaine to.

As a result, I am still alive - I think coke and drink combined would have put me in my box.

I did, however, learn how to snort tequila when I was 18 and it was my occasional party trick for years to come.

Mouseface · 09/09/2010 17:22

Ouch at snorting tequila. Did it not burn?

(Says she who has snorted more coke than Scarface)

'snort tequila'!!! uugghh you grotty bugger! Grin

i once fell off a tramopoline at a dinner party and showed everyone that i had no knickers on! i have fallen off a camel in dubai and landed on the camel drivers son Blush i have made a spectacular backwards exit from a party by way of teh patio doors and down 5 concrete steps while doing 'come on eileen' Grin i have 'helped' the band at my friends 40th bd party by insisting i could sing 'dancing queen' better than the singer and my dh once had to take me to casulty when i fell off the loo and bashed my head on teh bath, spent 2 days in bed with concussion, spent even longer in bed after i tried to reach the bedroom ceiling light by balancing the dressing table stool on the bed and standing on it, blacked both my eyes by landing on the radiator. (and i once got my head stuck in the clothes-horse, but that was really embarassing so dont tell anyone! Grin)

It's like being hit in the forehead with a hammer.

I told someone that once as I prepared to do it. I can't remember whether they actually said "so why do it?" or whether it was just in their eyes ...

I fell off an ironing board at a party at uni.

I have done so many horrendously emmbarrasing things...too many to go into as a direct result of booze.
The most recent getting completely shitfaced at DC1's 3rd birthday meal, held in a soft play, family-friendly type restaurant with most of the immediate family present.
I told a few of them what I thought of them before slumping to the floor and having to be carried out.
So shameful.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/09/2010 19:48

I'm feeling much better
DH has now got the bug and is asleep looking ashen
My birthday tomorrow, my mother is coming over - asked if she should bring wine, I said no.

venusandmars · 09/09/2010 19:51

Have a lovely evening SAF - good decision.

Luci the things we do when drunk are shameful. Oh yes we can dress them up in witty posts and make them sound like funny tales, but they are mostly just sad.

But you know, I haven't done any of those shameful things for a while, and also I have not drunk any alcohol for a while. Hmmm... coincidence?

Lucilastic · 09/09/2010 19:54

I know. Probably why MIL hates me. And I have to live with her until November.
She told me the other day (after I'd said if I were younger, richer, more stable etc that I'd maybe have tried for a DC3) that in her opinion I didn't even like the two kids I have.
I do. I love them to death but as an ex-career girl (nursing sister) now a SAHM in my inlaws house with 2 kids under 4 and on my own all day it's surely no wonder that by the time MIL gets in from work ar 6pm that I am starting to get ratty, irritable and a bit shouty.
I should be fucking ashamed of DC's 3rd birthday meal shouldn't I?
Was kind of hoping someone would say, oh well, these things happen...
Luckily DC1 seemed oblivious to mummy's behaviour. Sad

ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/09/2010 19:55

Oh good lord as soon as I feel better I want wine
Angry

jesuswhatnext · 09/09/2010 20:13

christi, give it a couple of hours and it will be bed time and you will have another day under your belt!

luci, i do feel for you, your situation sounds awful, but it really wont help it if you drink.

i would like some sympathy this evening please -
i have begun teh task of emptying, cleaning and redecorating the pantry - WHAT IN FUCKS NAME MADE ME THINK THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA ON A THURSDAY EVENING? - the kitchen is now full of the pantry, there is stuff everywhere, the place looks like sainsburys has exploded! and it will take me hours to finish!! ooohhhhh ggggggrrr!
soppy tart! i have this vision of a domestic goddess haven with everything labeled, in its correct place instead of having the cling film land on my head every time i reach for a tin of beans - bet nigella dosent have this trouble!

back in a bit.

Mouseface · 09/09/2010 20:20

Nope, Nigella has someone to that for her!! Are you mad woman? That's the kinda shite I do! Grin

OP posts:
ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/09/2010 20:25

JWN thank you, I will. I've had dinner which helps. Might have to find something sweet now.

In terms of pantry etc - darkest before dawn I say, you're just at the worst point now and just think of how lovely it will all look soon

What's your oldest best before date in there? I love finding some gems every time I do a clear out.

LUCI don't worry about the children's birthday thing. Really don't. People on here and in real life have done WAY worse than that. Please don't worry. Certainly don't let what others think of you drive you to think that you are any worse than us and certainly don't let it think that you should treat yourself like shit. Value yourself from now on. Don't drink.

I really feel for you, your situation sounds hard. CAn you escape anywhere in the evening? Exercise, cinema, library, book group?

desire where are you?
