Hello, welcome to thread five!! Smile

I'm Mouse and I'm 10 whole days sober which is bloody amazing given that I would normally consume nearly 90 units per week! And that's without 'special occasions'!! Shock

So, if I can do it, you can do it! The support here is awesome, no matter where you are in your quest to quit. No judging, no cliquey groups.

We are just real, honest people. All helping each other to give up the booze. Come meet the other Brave Babes........................

And for those who would like to read the adventures so far, here are the links from the first four threads!

you didn't sound patronising at all

lowenergylightbulb · 19/08/2010 10:08

Yes, good luck to all the a-leveller Smile

Day 3 here of no drinking/smoking. I feel pretty good this morning, despite not sleeping too well last night.

I don't think that I've done 3 days of no booze AND fags (bar being preggers) since I was about 15 Shock

More decorating on the cards today. It feels fitting to make the house as fresh and clean as I want to be!!

It's hard though. I really really want to drink a large gin and smoke about 20 fags but I am ignoring the urge.

RedMoomin · 19/08/2010 10:12

Well done lowenergy! You're doing brilliantly. I really identify with what you are saying abuot getting the house as fresh and clean as you are. When I stopped drinking initially I found a real zest for housework! Whenever I 'pick up' that starts to slide away a bit.

Keep going, you can do it - one day/ hour/ minute at a time!

TrinityRhino · 19/08/2010 10:15

I'm with you there moomin

I've never done so much housework and it feels good

RedMoomin · 19/08/2010 10:18

trinity - I find it gives me a real sense of achievement and a sense of peace. (That may sound bonkers but I hope at least some of you know what I mean!)

lowenergylightbulb · 19/08/2010 10:22

My bathroom actually looks like the sort of bathroom that I normally envy in other peoples houses Grin

I keep going in there to admire it.

Today I finish my bedroom, I'm making it a little sanctuary for DP and I to relax in. The rest of the house is generally over run by loud teenagers who don't go to bed until 11pm-ish. Hence me normally ending up in the kitchen with a drink and a fag in an attempt to get some space/peace.

Here's to another day where I don't press the self destruct button!

maddogsandenglishmen · 19/08/2010 10:23

Hi all!
Good luck with the A-level results. And good luck at the bank Moomin.

Wish I was infected with the housework bug Envy

Just found out that a close (I thought) friend invited all our other friends to her baby's christening and not me. And they all kept it secret. And I don't know why :( :( :(
Feeling awful about it.

Anyway, normally the "nobody likes me" feelings are key triggers for drinking. But not today. Today is Day 14 and I will not be drinking.

lowenergylightbulb · 19/08/2010 10:34

Good luck maddogs. 14 days is a brilliant achievement. We all like you Grin

MIFLAW · 19/08/2010 10:34

"went to the pub
had three blue wkds, a vodka and coke and a glass of wine in 4 hours"

Well done for stopping, but did you go to the pub intending to drink (roughly, assumingh single vodka and large glass of wine) 7 units in a sitting? So, basically, a bottle of wine. Was it a celebration?

You do know that ordinary people don't drink like that in the middle of the week, right?

So, while I again congratulate you for stopping, it's a bit much to say, on the basis of that, "I could have a few drinks and then stop".

TrinityRhino · 19/08/2010 10:39

miflaw

I hear you

but dont people have a few drinks to feel a little tipsy?

TrinityRhino · 19/08/2010 10:40

I'm not being argumentative, I really am trying to learn

I mean sure;y people without an issue with booze dont just drink it for the taste

TrinityRhino · 19/08/2010 10:42

and its not the middle of the week at the moment because we are still on holiday

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 10:44

well, its a b and 2 cs, she is pleased so iam pleased iyswim? - she already had an unconditional offer for her foundation course and has built enough ucas points for central st martins, so all i can hope for is that she is happy and keeps it up! considering the shit i was putting everyone through, she has done very well!

maddogs, people do that kind of thing sometimes, really, just try and ignore it, i know it is hurtful, but hey, you have your lovley family, you dont need friends like these!

lowenergy - your house will smell all lovley, far to good to have a stinky old fag in! Grin

moomin - thinking of you later! dont let the bastards grind you down! Grin, you have shown about the same amount of financial acumen as most of the top bankers! (rhymes with.... ha ha !!)

MIFLAW · 19/08/2010 10:48

"but dont people have a few drinks to feel a little tipsy?"

Yes, they do.

But most people don't need seven or eight units to feel a little tipsy. They feel pretty close to shit-faced after that much, to be honest.

My mum drinks every night and is a tall (and, these days, quite a heavy) woman. I cannot begin to imagine what she would be like after a bottle of wine.

And most people who drink that much have started the evening planning "a bit of a session."

RedMoomin · 19/08/2010 10:51

JWN - congratulations to your DD!! Will you be going for a lovely (sober) family meal or something to celebrate? And thanks for the good vibes!

maddogs - I really think that some people (women?) just never grow up. I always thought when I was young that this kind of thing would stop when I got to 21 or something - but it just carries on! You have much better things to worry about than their pettiness. We all love you here.

TrinityRhino · 19/08/2010 10:55

shit

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 10:56

moomin - i will be doing a celebration, but not today, today they are all off down the pub - i wont see her now until tomorrow morning i expect, hungover and in need of a bath and a cooked breakfast! Grin (oh, those were the days!! Grin)

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 10:58

aww trinity - you getting a nagging? Grin

(its bloody infuriating isnt it?, the old bugger is always so bloody right! Grin) thank god!

MIFLAW · 19/08/2010 11:23

Not so much of the old!

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 11:46

sorry darling!! Grin

MIFLAW · 19/08/2010 11:48

Darling?

You and me, it's more like the Karate Kid ...

"Glass up. Glass down."

MIFLAW · 19/08/2010 11:48

We did it all for the glory of Bob.

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 12:03

bugger, i saw us as more 9 1/2 weeks!!! Grin

RedMoomin · 19/08/2010 12:05

Blush while I read this!

jesuswhatnext · 19/08/2010 12:10

do you know moomin, i always thought it was the booze which made me an outragous flirt, turns out i was wrong! Grin
