Hello, welcome to thread five!! Smile

I'm Mouse and I'm 10 whole days sober which is bloody amazing given that I would normally consume nearly 90 units per week! And that's without 'special occasions'!! Shock

So, if I can do it, you can do it! The support here is awesome, no matter where you are in your quest to quit. No judging, no cliquey groups.

We are just real, honest people. All helping each other to give up the booze. Come meet the other Brave Babes........................

And for those who would like to read the adventures so far, here are the links from the first four threads!

JWN's original thread (the reason we are all here)

Hi Trin, you have been doing really well with all your work in the house. I find that my mind is tidier and more sorted when the house is tidier.

RedMoomin · 17/08/2010 09:12

Good morning babes!

Glad to see everyone feeling so positive this morning. It was lovely to have the chance to post last night and read everyone else's too.

venus - have a wonderful holiday. We will miss your posts - always full of wisdom and warmth.

JWN, trinity, christi and maddogs - good morning to you all!

Here's to another sober day.

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 09:26

Good morning babes, I have just caught up on last nights thread, it made me smile when you all said goodnight, it was like the Waltons! Grin I just wanted to comment on JWN's property program experience, I hate those insidious, suggestive scenes in TV programs, they really talk to the alkie in me too. Why the fiddling fuck are program makers so boring and lazy, they have to use the same tired old cliches to flog a house in France!! We all know how that scene could end up! Angry

RedMoomin · 17/08/2010 09:29

Morning MissP - I am loving the rage against property programmes!

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 09:29

Bum unexpected rant... sorryBlush
Venus have a lovely holiday, don't forget to pack your mini computer fairies! Smile

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 09:31

Hey Red, I really surprised myself there! I think the menopause might be knocking is 45 too young!?Grin

venusandmars · 17/08/2010 09:40

I find myself cringeing when I watch Come Dine With Me. The cook is often 'sampling' the ccoking brandy during the day, and half the time the strategy to win is to get everyone pissed. And if you see the reaction of anyone if there isn't 'enough' booze. Oh it could have been me. It would have been me.

I don't thing I've turned into a disapproving middle aged prude, I am just seeing on TV the way that I behaved and it is pretty uncomfortable at times.

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 09:42

Did I murder the thread said the paranoid, egotistical, self absorbed MissP Shock

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 09:44

Phew Venus!! The voice of reasonSmile

RedMoomin · 17/08/2010 09:55

It would take more than that to kill this thread MissP! (And you are describing some of my faults there! Paranoia? Yep! Egotistical? Indeed! Self-absorbed? Oh yes!)

venus - I know exactly what you mean! I am very aware of alcohol and its portayal in all of the media. (I don't actually watch EastEnders but I note that their resident alcoholic, Phil Mitchell, is now a crackhead too!)

jesuswhatnext · 17/08/2010 10:00

red, the trouble is, i am sure phil will recover his sanity and sobriety in about 3 episodes Hmm, drives me mad!

venus, i see that in the people on CDWM!, i saw an episode where the contestant was muslim and didnt serve wine, ohhh the wingeing from the others was embarassing!

jesuswhatnext · 17/08/2010 10:02

missp - your rant sounded like me last night! Grin

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 10:06

It's everywhere really, I am feeling sensitised to it at the moment, I was looking at an ad for patio heaters, the table was all set up with wine ect. I mean PATIO HEATERS for goodness sake!

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 10:08

JWN I'm in good company then!Grin

MissPerrier · 17/08/2010 10:09

Right I'm off to do angry ironing! It helps me weirdly! Hmm

jesuswhatnext · 17/08/2010 10:11

ha ha at angry ironing!! mind you dont break the iron!! Grin

RedMoomin · 17/08/2010 10:13

JWN - absolutely, he will be fine and it will all be forgotten within a few weeks. Grr.

MissP - whatever gets you through the day! I despise ironing with all my heart. Basically I don't do it! DH rarely needs a shirt so I just iron one as and when! I might post you some of mine Wink

MIFLAW · 17/08/2010 10:42

Christi

At the risk of sounding like a nag, if you do want to get well, it is probably time to start arranging your life around your not drinking, rather than arranging not drinking around your life.

Although it is very important to take one day at a time, it is also important to make sure that you are starting with the best possible foot forward.

For example - I can guarantee that there will be lots more times in the future when you won't be able to exercise as you would like to. Are you planning to go through those times in an intensely vulnerable state? Or to drink? If not, you have to accept now that, if exercise is that big a deal, then you will prioritise finding an alternative. So, instead of thinking, "I can't exercise, I'm vulnerable" your arm should be on auto-pilot to pick up the phone and call the local swimming pool or hiking club (or whatever.) If you are worried that, 20 years down the line, you will not be able to toast your own silver wedding anniversary with champagne, then, yes, you have to make it one day at a time - but also to remind yourself, right now, that, that there are things that can make this easier (not holding a glass, asking in advance for apple juice, speaking to a sober friend beforehand, going for a walk before the big event, whatever.) In other words, it is fine to plan, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T PLAN THE OUTCOMES.

The alternative is to live your life in fear of a plate breaking in case it "makes" you pick up a large scotch to calm your nerves.

maddogsandenglishmen · 17/08/2010 10:47

Just jumping in to make a cultural observation...

We watch the German version of Come Dine with me (Das Perfekte Dinner). When we went over to the UK and watch CDWM we were open-mouthed at the drinking that goes on in the UK version! In the German one, the wine is rarely mentioned and "civilised" drinking mainly goes on. In the UK one, half the discussion seemed to be about the wine and everyone got pissed!

On the other hand, vegetarians seemed much better provided for in the UK, in germany there is rarely a vegetarian and there is much grumbling from the cook Grin

Anyway, as you were...

RedMoomin · 17/08/2010 11:14

Hello maddogs,

How are you today? Quite quiet on here this morning!

I want to ask you all to send lovely computer fairy wishes to me as I am off to the bank this lunchtime... (I am actually just off to ask for an appointment to sort out my horrific financial situation but I think that the sooner the good wishes start the better Smile) Thank you in advance my wonderful babes!
