10 weeks ago i started a thread asking for help - i was in a very desperate place, totally dependent on alchohol, unhappy, lonely and floundering around trying to make sense of it all. i was in danger of losing everything i hold dear.

in those few short weeks, i have got my life back and picked up a few computer friends along the way - we help each other, support each other, and laugh and cry together - if you would like to join us, please feel free - no judging, preaching, sermonising or moralising - we are simply ordinary people with a bloody awful illness!

Goodness everyone is up early this morning!!

Just had to slog on the tram with dd to Kindergarten and then walk to the bus and then catch bus to work in a downpour so I'm feeling tired and wet and sorry for myself.

Woke up feeling good today. Post-holiday slump feels as though it's almost over and so I intend getting some good work under my belt today which always makes me feel better.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/08/2010 07:49

What kind of work do you do Maddogs?

Any more thoughts on yur BBQ on Saturday?

fluxy3 · 12/08/2010 08:33

Morning..
No drink last night... so I painted the bathroom!
Couldn't sleep so took 2 'Calms' and played solitaire till 2 am this morning!
I will not have any alcohol today.

Have a great day everyone. x

maddogsandenglishmen · 12/08/2010 08:44

Hi Christi! I work for a Pharma company. I quite like my job, despite my moaning, and it pays well. I would never have chosen this as my "dream job" or anything, but I've got the world's most lovely boss which makes such a difference.

Barbeque is going to be a spur of the moment decision!

Sorry to hear you are feeling so depressed. I really hope your life eases up on you very soon. Harry Potter got me through a particularly bad period of depression-insomnia! It was only afterwards that I read that JK Rowling based the Dementors on her own experiences of depression. Great that you are meeting Venus! How exciting!

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/08/2010 08:44

Well done fluxy

I won't be drinking today either

I do need to sleep. I wake up as Fluxy falls alsepp

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 08:57

Good morning everyone,

And a special hello to lastone! Lovely to have you onboard. And algee - hope everything's going well, looking forward to having you back!

I am feeling good this morning, had a definite wobble last night but got through it and this morning I am extremely pleased that I did!

Will someone set up the new thread with links to the last ones when needed? Thanks! (mouse - you seem good at that kind of thing!)

How's everyone feeling this morning?

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 08:57

By the way, I am Envy that christi and venus get to meet up!

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/08/2010 08:58

Aaah I looked at harry potter on the shelf at 3am and considered it... Interesting to know that abotu JKR.

Toclearmyhead · 12/08/2010 08:59

Morning Red - I know, lucky things! Well done on getting over your wobble.

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 09:02

Harry Potter gets me through bouts of insomnia/ depression too! Just find it very comforting to read for some reason.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 12/08/2010 09:02

redmoomin I think we should arrange for a spa day meet up for all of us. Including MIFLAW!

Toclearmyhead · 12/08/2010 09:04

I re read Chronicles of Narnia in times of stress.

Helps to take me back to easier days!

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 09:07

christi - sounds like a good idea, would be very amusing. We would have to wear badges with our mn names! (MIFLAW would probably be easy to spot!)

toclear - yes, it must something to do with that. Although I was most definitely an adult when Harry Potter came out!

Hammy02 · 12/08/2010 09:21

Hi

I have had a problem with drinking for years and reading your posts has been a great eye-opener and made me realise how much in denial I have been.

You all seem so lovely and honest about your experiences.

I have been drinking around 1 and a half bottles of wine a night for about 6 months. I've always had a problem with drink but since losing my job it's got much worse. Every morning I wake up and think, 'right, I won't drink today', but it gets to about 4/5pm and I give in. My mum rang the other day at 8pm and I pretended not to be drunk but she could see right through me and said she was really worried. She'd even gone to an al-anon meeting. Since drinking so much I've put on a stone and a half in 6 months! None of my clothes fit and I hate feeling like this. Anyway, I've not drank for 2 days and am determined to stick at it this time. I hope you don't mind me gate-crashing your thread. All the best to all of you. x

Toclearmyhead · 12/08/2010 09:23

Hi hammy - no gatecrashers on this thread, all are welcome :)

Well done on stopping for two days.

Toclearmyhead · 12/08/2010 09:25

Red - we could play a game - guess the mumsnetter! I've got pictures of what people look like but bet I am totally wrong!

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 09:25

Welcome to you hammy! You are not gatecrashing the thread you are just joining in!

Have you considered going to an AA meeting or any other form of outside support?

Hammy02 · 12/08/2010 09:38

Hi

I've been to AA a few times and it is great. I've a print out of the meetings in the area I'm now living in and am planning on going tonight. The meetings are great for being with people who understand what you are experiencing and for getting advice on how to stay off the drink. It's also shocking to see how awful some people's lives become due to drink-losing contact with family, homeless etc. I am fortunate that I am not in that position and need to be reminded that it can and does happen.

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 09:44

hammy - in AA it is referred to as 'yets' Such as, 'I have not lost my home yet', I have not lost a job/ partner yet.' I am sure that you will know this from AA!

That's great that you are getting to a meeting tonight! (I go to 4 a week as I am still battling a lot with this!)

Mouseface · 12/08/2010 09:46

Morning!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm off to set up a new thread and do all of the links for everyone........

Be back in a mo to catch up!!!

Hello to the two lovely new Babes - lastone and Hammy02

Smile
RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 09:49

Good morning mouse!

Thanks for sorting all that out x

venusandmars · 12/08/2010 09:57

Morning everyone, not around for long, but just popped by to say hello to all and also to say welcome to lastone and hammy.

Red, I loved what you said about the 'yets'. Over the years there have been lots of things that at one time I would have said "I don't..." or "I haven't...". I should have added 'yet' to many of those because often I did end up doing them. It's an insidious process - crept up on me gradually step by step.

Today, thank goodness, I will not be drinking.
Have a wonderful day everyone, and I will see you later.

fluxy3 · 12/08/2010 10:00

Morning Hammy... it's great here.. lots of lovely women, no judgements and best of all we all seem to 'get' each other.
It was reading this thread that made me face up to my problems with alcohol too.
I have had the many drunken (trying to be sober) telephone calls too.. I think that I'm hiding the fact that I am drunk very well... but guess what... they can all see, or rather hear, through it. it sometimes feels strange to chat on the phone whilst sober I got so used to it....

Have a lovely day! x

I'm not going to drink alcohol today either.

Mouseface · 12/08/2010 10:11

New thread here

Fill up this one first Babes but it's all ready to go. Plus the links to the first 4 threads.

Off to catch up. Smile

RedMoomin · 12/08/2010 10:14

Thanks mouse! I love the title of the new thread... I thought it would be something to do with a Battle Bus!
