10 weeks ago i started a thread asking for help - i was in a very desperate place, totally dependent on alchohol, unhappy, lonely and floundering around trying to make sense of it all. i was in danger of losing everything i hold dear.

in those few short weeks, i have got my life back and picked up a few computer friends along the way - we help each other, support each other, and laugh and cry together - if you would like to join us, please feel free - no judging, preaching, sermonising or moralising - we are simply ordinary people with a bloody awful illness!

desire: Saw what you wrote about MIFLAW on the new thread and it's not a problem! I think he enjoys a good debate. Personally I am not concerned about what anyone writes about MIFLAW. I would guess he's big enough and ugly enough to look after himself! (No offence MIFLAW!)

I don't know about you lovely ladies but I don't even know why I drink?! I think it's more the anticipation of looking forward to a glass of wine. Then once I've had one, something else kicks in and I can't stop. It sounds like a cliche but I think the AA mantra of not having that first glass absolutely sums it up for me.

Hammy - you are totally describing an alcoholic! Once I have had that first drink it kicks off a craving/ compulsion for MORE, MORE, MORE! If you don't have the first drink you can't get drunk! Took me a bit of time to get my head round that to be honest!

RedMoomin-you're not kidding when you say it takes a bit of time to get round the idea of not having the first drink, you can't get drunk. I have spent years telling myself, just one glass won't hurt and then end up having a bottle, or more. Isnt't there a saying where the definition of stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome?! That's me to a T!

I think it's even the definition of insanity! That's how crazy it is! Are you going to hop over to the new thread? Everyone's being nutters at the moment talking about what seat they want and who's driving!! I am sure we will settle down soon
