3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2016

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Thanks dollyphilips, really appreciate your response. It is hard not to beat yourself up thinking maybe I could have done something different my DD. Like draw a dragon!!!

TennisMom · 14/01/2016 12:29

meonlyme, do you mean 2nd round interviews/activity day or actual paper assessment? I thought that was on the 12th.

mummylookingforstuff · 14/01/2016 12:43

namechanged16 - your DD sounds very bright, she seems confident in her choice and what she wants to do. I surely feel it is the school's loss not hers by any means! She will do great ...

namechanged16 · 14/01/2016 13:20

Thanks mummylookingforstuff. She is bright and mature, but very strong willed. Good luck all for the second round!!

Still no news from Channing. I am hoping against hope though..

Dip123 · 14/01/2016 13:59

namechanged16 - we are in the same boat as you. No 2nd round from the two N London schools so fingers and toes crossed for Channing. TBH I feel a bit scarred by this whole process!

namechanged16 · 14/01/2016 14:33

Just got the email from Channing... Yipee called back for 2nd round!

cuttey · 14/01/2016 14:33

Channing email is out!

Dip123 · 14/01/2016 14:48

Phew...we got second round Channing too. Congrats all. So now need to swot up on what might come up there! Any ideas on the number called back?

efrieze78 · 14/01/2016 14:56

I thought Channing 4+ emails were out already?!?

cuttey · 14/01/2016 15:13

Assuming they do 10-12 sessions, i.e. 5-6 sessions each day, and 6 candidates per group, then maybe 60-80 candidates?
Very limited info has been shared re. channing round 2.
Round 1 dd said they played some animal games, did singing and dancing.. so maybe round 2 will be more academic side?! no clue...

namechanged16 · 14/01/2016 15:40

In round 1 my dd made butterfly biscuits and did one to one reading. Also drew a picture of herself although without arms because she wanted to finish her drawing quickly and make biscuits! !

Dip123 · 14/01/2016 15:54

DD also made biscuits and said that they read a story about a hungry snake. I wonder whether round 2 will echo mumteachers advice earlier in the thread about round 2 at ncls. Any thoughts?

dollyphillips · 14/01/2016 16:34

My DD is through too - yay!!

2nd round appears to be the same length of time as 2nd round at NLCS but have no clue what to expect. Would like to be able to talk her through what to expect so this is a plea for any information on the 2nd round. Mumteacher?

herdingmonkeys · 14/01/2016 16:36

Hello to all, I'm looking for some help.

My 3 year old daughter will be doing the entrance assessment for Forest School's 4+ in September/October this year. How can I help her prepare? She is not at all academic, but a charming and confident girl. I have never attempted to teach her to read - I work full time so all the time we spend together is playing silly games and larking about blush

My husband and I are desperate for her to get into Forest, as we live extremely close to the school, my daughter goes swimming there once a week and loves the pool and the school grounds, and I have heard good reviews of the school from other mums. We would not be disappointed if she didn't get in, but I would like to guide her in the right direction, so they are able to see what a lovely girl she is (and if they still don't want her, their loss!)

Thanks for your help X

cuttey · 14/01/2016 17:18

dollyphillips - i thought NLCS round 2 was 45minutes, channing was 1hr?

dollyphillips · 14/01/2016 17:26

Hi cuttey - yes, although her first round overran so I figured it will be similar length of time. I imagine they will be very similar although there has been no request for my DD to wear 'comfortable' shoes in Channing 2nd round so maybe not!!

Hyagreeva · 14/01/2016 19:16

Herdingmonkeys, my daughter did the 4+ in October 15. She did counting, basic adding/subtracting, sequencing, drew and coloured a flower, they read a story and asked questions, they had a tea party and was asked questions abt how to make tea/cake etc. She said she really enjoyed it.

Hyagreeva · 14/01/2016 19:19

Herdingmonkeys, that was for Forest 4+ btw.

namechanged16 · 15/01/2016 09:08

Good luck dollyphillips and cuttey for NLCS. Hope it all goes well!

herdingmonkeys · 15/01/2016 09:20

Hyagreeva

Thank you so much for replying. Sounds like fairly normal activities except my daughter hasn't got a clue about adding and subtracting lol. Did your little one get in to Forest?

dollyphillips · 15/01/2016 11:31

Thank you namechanged16. We are enroute now with DD in less than a great mood. Always the way when we need her to be on form, right!?

Workingmom4 · 15/01/2016 12:47

Hey has anyone heard from 5+ habs for second round ?? they said we will get to know by the end of this week.

namechanged16 · 15/01/2016 13:00

I am sure she will be fine dollyphillips. I will have my fingers crossed for her!

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 15/01/2016 14:08

Habs 5+ emails went out yesterday.

Hyagreeva · 15/01/2016 15:17

Herdingmonkeys - yes my daughter got a place at Forest.
