3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2016

mumteacher · 22/12/2015 23:54

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Hyagreeva- thanks for the post about Forest assessment. Can I ask what is sequencing? My DD is sitting it this year.

Hyagreeva · 16/01/2016 08:43

Applesforjam - example: red/white/red/white - what comes next. Square/rectangle/square/rectangle - what's next.

CruCru · 16/01/2016 09:40

Looks like there are a lot of parents of girls on here.

We had The Hall last week, Devonshire House this week and have St Anthony's in just over a week.

Applesforjam · 16/01/2016 09:55

Thanks Hyagreeva Smile

Hi all. I'm waiting for Habs 5+ and seen from a previous post that emails went out Thursday. Does that mean those not successful never got an email?

rsub · 16/01/2016 11:33

Hi Mumteacher, all. What typically happens in round 2 of Habs and NLCS? Thanks!

SHC93 · 16/01/2016 12:15

Anyone with ANY advice on 4+ for Glendower or Kensington Prep assessments? My DD has her assessments next week and I have realised (very late in the game) that the advice from her nursery that you can't prepare for these assessments has been ignored by other parents and they have been prepping their DDs intensely over the last few months! ANY help or advice on what is in these assessments would be HUGELY appreciated as I feel like a complete idiot for not realising that I could / should have been preparing her for them. More fool me and hope I am more clued in for DD2.

rsub · 16/01/2016 12:57

Apologies. I meant to ask for the second round of 7+ at NLCS and Habs girls. What happens in these? Is it 1-1 or more of a move up day type environment? Thanks a ton for your responses!

sanam2010 · 16/01/2016 17:18

SHC93, this may be helpful:
www.londonpreprep.com/2011/08/what-to-expect-for-the-pre-prep-school-assessment/

Nothing very specific about Ken Prep and Glendower, but generally certain things always come up - a group task, a story, some drawing, writing her name, phonic awareness, basic counting, and sorting / matching / logic games.

Good luck!

mumteacher · 18/01/2016 09:30

Results for 7+ round 2 aren't out yet for the Nlcs rsub but since I've had several pm from you asking for info, here it is:

7+ second round is usually about half a day at school with varying activities. There could be a science lesson on photosynthesis or materials. An ict lesson where they have to make a poster. There will be a bit more mental maths and reading ability is tested.
Social skills are also taken into account.

mumteacher - hate to bombard you with requests but we are all going stir crazy with the waiting and reliable information is so hard to come by. Any insight into 7+ interviews/assessment at Highgate would be much appreciated. Thank you very much indeed

efrieze78 · 18/01/2016 14:15

Habs girls 7+ emails out today re round 2.

rsub · 18/01/2016 14:25

Super. Thanks!

Aditi83 · 18/01/2016 17:03

Hello Mums! Has anyone been to Habs for the second round for the 4+ assessments this year? Please could you share your experience. Thanks x

Haggismcbaggis · 19/01/2016 13:33

Someone asked about Highgate second round. It's a group based activity - often science related (but common sense kind of science). They are looking for bright kids that interract well - don't talk over each other. Sometimes it's a memory word association game. Basically nothing you can prepare for - except to remind your child to be polite and take turns and listen to the other children!

Apparently Highgate even more oversubscribed than normal - especially for boys. The new junior school is nearly ready which may account for it.

CB2009 · 19/01/2016 15:18

It was me who asked about Highgate. Thank you Haggismcbaggis. We will remind our son of the things that you mention this evening. Usually my best time for communicating is bath time when he cannot run away. Will on pass the over subscription info to our friends who did not get a call back at Highgate and are holding out hope for UCS. Thank you

efrieze78 · 19/01/2016 15:38

NLCS 7+ call back emails out today.

efrieze78 · 19/01/2016 16:05

anyone heard from nlcs?

Aditi83 · 19/01/2016 17:33

Dear mumteacher

I would be grateful if you could share any information wrt habs round 2 for 4+ assessments.

Thankyou so much!

mumteacher · 20/01/2016 14:48

Habs round 2 is a parent interview with both Heads. Historically the girls were tested seperstely but they have changed that to the girls staying with the parents during the entire duration.

All this waiting is making me anxious!!

tiredoffour4plus · 20/01/2016 20:15

Slightly off topic but Does anyone know if habs girls junior school has a breakfast club and if so what time it starts and can reception children use it? thx

writingonthewall · 20/01/2016 20:16

No, it doesn't have one. It has a late room which goes until (I think) 4.15. Girls can't go on the coach until year 3.

tiredoffour4plus · 20/01/2016 21:30

Writingonthewall: thank you for the reply! Trying to figure out logistics if she actually managed to get a 4+ offer... hmmm no coach and no breakfast club :(

writingonthewall · 20/01/2016 21:54

Lots of rotas - not unusual to see parents trailing 5-6 children back to the car park!
