3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2016

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Anyone know how many nlcs girls get a second round?

Report
angelpuffs · 13/01/2016 17:59

T1n333- round 1 is usually about 250 girls. Round 2 is usually 90-100 girls.

Any information on St. Helens. How many girls get called for round 2? What are the final number of seats?

Good luck everyone! My DD will be sitting her 4+ assessments next year so I'm watching this thread with interest.
Mummylookingforstuff- not sure about St Helens I'm afraid- but sure someone will be along shortly who knows Smile

t1n333 · 13/01/2016 19:34

Angel puff and I guess they give 40 offers

Report
mummylookingforstuff · 13/01/2016 19:42

T1n - you think they give 40 offers or intake is just of 12 girls? Sorry I am confused! This is for 4+

Report
angelpuffs · 13/01/2016 19:44

NLCS take 40 girls at 4+. I suspect they give 40 offers and then more girls are on the waiting list. They are probably most people's first choice so undoing they over offer- though not sure. Really have no idea about St. Helens

angelpuffs · 13/01/2016 19:45

Sorry t1n333- yes- of the 90-100 girls called back for round 2 they give 40 offers.

Surely today must be the day for Channing results!?

We are waiting too for Channing 4+. But if the 7+ emails are out, I think it's a no for us Sad

Report
cuttey · 14/01/2016 09:19

also waiting here! I know a few friends sitting Channing 4+ this year and none of them has heard from them. Wondered what they are doing ...

Report
dollyphillips · 14/01/2016 09:30

Exactly! Rather short notice for Mon and Tuesday if working. I know four other people that have sat (from DD's school) and they haven't heard anything either way which either means they are just v late getting results out, or we are all in the 'no' category and letters are en route!

It is impossible to stay relaxed isn't it!?

Same boat re Channing. Just called and they confirmed notifications will go out today. Fingers crossed and good luck all.

It is a stressful wait. As we didn't get through to the 2nd round of the other two north london schools. My daughter did not draw the dragon!!! She said 'I drew the princess but I don't like dragons so I didn't draw it'..

If only they know....

dollyphillips · 14/01/2016 10:14

Thanks meindeed. Fingers crossed for everyone!

And as for not drawing a dragon namechange16!? I would opt for the child that could articulate why she didn't want to draw the dragon every time. Their loss!

Thanks dollyphillips. Your words are the tonic that I really need right now.
Really gutted at missing out on those two. But yes 'Their loss!'

Don't be too dismayed namechanged16. This whole process appears to be somewhat of a lottery from what I can tell. Yes, the assessors are skilled at knowing what to look for, but there are so many variables (how they slept they night before, how comfortable they are made to feel, whether something insignificant triggered a meltdown on the way there etc.). The type of nursery setting they are in currently plays a big part too I think.

Come on Channing email!!

Kensington Prep assessment tomorrow! Any idea on what to expect. These assessments are giving me sleepless nights....wish they would just be over soon!

meonline, it's the usual, a group activity building a castle or something similar, a story with some questions, some drawing and then some sorting and matching games. Usually all the girls have fun and come out happy.
