3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2016

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those parents involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas.

Nothing yet either

All this waiting is no fun at all!! Just dropped DD1 off at St Albans Girls. At least only one round there! Although, not sure if that is a good or bad thing as she is in a funny mood!!

t1n333 · 11/01/2016 15:48

Any news on NLCS?

cuttey · 11/01/2016 16:10

DD made to round 2!

Bigbiscuits · 11/01/2016 16:15

No I am not a tutor. My own kids went through assessments a few years back.

I know that this is an immensely stressful time and parents want to do everything they can to help their children get in. But I really don't believe you can tutor children for 4+ and 5+.

I have a bit more sympathy with 7+ tutoring. But only enough to familiarise the child with the format of the test. Any more and you are robbing your child of their childhood and the right to just hang out and be 6 years old.

And these threads always make me laugh. Because no real help or information ever gets posted.

It just a series of desperate parents hoping for some scrap of information which is never forthcoming.

dollyphillips · 11/01/2016 16:21

DD1 made it to round 2 also. So, any info on the 2nd round will be very, very welcome.

t1n333 · 11/01/2016 16:24

My monkey also made it to round 2!

Mask235 · 11/01/2016 17:26

Anybody heard from HABS?

cuttey · 11/01/2016 17:30

Mask235, dd made it to Habs round 2. A friend of mine was also called back.

mumteacher · 11/01/2016 17:47

Read non fiction books/articles/magazines.
Cutting drawing stuff like that is all done in round1.
Talk about the weather, what people look like when they are old compared to a baby? What is a violin made out of? Where does milk come from?
Girls will be expected to concentrate for a given length of time.
Make sure they can throw under arm, catch, hop on either leg.

Hyagreeva · 11/01/2016 18:59

We got emails from both schools for Round 2. Good Luck to everyone for the next round. All this waiting has been tough and there's yet more waiting till 2nd Feb.

Mask235 · 11/01/2016 19:01

Well done to all who made it. T1n333 are you waiting too?

t1n333 · 11/01/2016 19:13

Yes we got nlcs and at Helens. No Habs.

mummylookingforstuff · 11/01/2016 19:25

Haven't heard from Habs. Does this mean a no then? Got Helen's round 2

Mask235 · 11/01/2016 19:31

We are in the same boat. Waiting for Habs! It's going to be a stressful long night Confused

cuttey · 11/01/2016 19:55

t1n333, yes we got an email from Habs.

good luck to everyone!

t1n333 · 12/01/2016 11:29

Mask anything from Habs?

Mask235 · 12/01/2016 11:35

t1n333 nope nothing yet. how about you?

t1n333 · 12/01/2016 11:44

Nothing unless there is post at home. I think some rejection letters have gone out.

Mask235 · 12/01/2016 12:02

i was in the impression that either way there will be an email. i am not at home either so it will be a long wait!

namechanged16 · 12/01/2016 12:37

I called Habs and they said that they have sent emails and letters out.
Reading this thread, I believe a 'yes' is an email and a 'no' is a letter which was posted yesterday.

Does anyone here knows when Channing are due to get back?

ImNotChangingMyUsernameAgain · 12/01/2016 13:10

Habs interviews for 4+ are arranged by email which should have been sent by now for interviews starting on Thursday.

Rejections are by letter and Habs haven't always sent the letters at the same time as the interview emails so there may be a few days delay. Generally therefore no news is probably bad news.

2nd round will be two separate meetings with the head of infants and the head/deputy of the junior school. Your DDs will be with you during the meetings.
