hi everyone
did you find your pics spikeycat? sorry to hear they had got lost - precious moments!
I don't know how much weight gain is normal but I do know my doc told me off last visit for putting on too much weight and compared it to my last pregnancy when I was a skinny thing! very demoralising. but since then I've not been gaining too much. They say that boys make you eat more. Now it's ramadan here so it's pretty hard to get anything to eat at all during the day (I'm often at work and rubbish at remembering sandwiches) but early evening is ftur 'break fast' time and they all scoff their faces on chickpea soup, little cakes, dates, milk and pancakes with honey - I go along for that bit! So perhaps massive sudden weight gain is on the cards for me
My next visit is next Monday for the scan. Can't wait.

moosh · 30/10/2003 16:15

Doc was a bit unfair morroco. It is almost inevitable that after the first pregnancy you will gain more weight with the second and even more with the third. I know for a fact that I will be bigger with this baby than my last pregnancy. I can see it and feel it already.

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of questions which I can't seem to find any answers for so far - does it matter if I haven't put on any weight at all so far, in fact I seem to be losing a little bit? Also I thought it was supposed to be around 16 weeks that you started to feel 'flutters' but I am now 19 1/2 and haven't felt anything .... I know first time round it can be a bit later, but I am starting to worry that something isn't quite right. My 'bump' is still there, but isn't really showing much at all ... apart from one pair of jeans I can still fit into all my clothes. I have an appointment late next week for my scan and am keeping my fingers crossed that the midwife will say that everything is okay.

Gem13 · 31/10/2003 10:46

hi catkin - not really a March person more a February one now that the 20 week scan showed D? to be more middle of the month but in answer to your questions...

1st time round I didn't feel a thing until the day before my 20 week scan and I too was worried but it was fine.

Secondly, a friend of mine who is now 23 weeks with her second has no bump at all. Her first bump was so tiny (think everyone else's tummy after Sunday lunch) we used to think she was an imposter in the antenatal yoga class and that was only a couple of weeks before she gave birth!

Talk to your MW but I'm sure it's all fine. Pregnancies like children are all different.

moosh · 31/10/2003 16:28

Hi Catkin. I didn't start to show with ds1 till I was about 6.5months pregnant. Although I have a lump the size of a basketball now this time round.

moosh · 31/10/2003 16:30

Sorry forgot to add that I didn't feel ds move till Iwas about 23 weeks pg. I didn't feel a flutter though, I just felt little nudges. This time round I felt babe at about 18 weeks. Don't worry I'm sure all is fine.

udar · 31/10/2003 17:57

Hi - I was beginning to wonder if it was just me. I'm 18.5 wks and have a small bump (still fit most of my clothes) but have actually lost over half a stone and can't wear my wedding ring as it is too big now. The midwife at the hospital doesn't seem at all worried as long as the baby is growing she doesn't seem to think I have to.
It is my first too due 31 March.

catkin · 03/11/2003 11:02

Thank you all for your messages - those along with the fact that I think I have felt little nudges this weekend have made me feel much better! I am so looking forward to my scan and seeing it wiggle again.

morocco · 04/11/2003 15:07

it's a boy! sounds like it's arrived already doesn't it? there was no doubt at all - even got a picture of his little willy - something to show the girlfriends in a few years time. so it looks like I'm building my football team.
everything was good and baby looked very healthy- he's also a bit of a bruiser apparently which I've been fretting about ever since. i wanted a natural birth this time but now I'm not sure it's such a good idea!
I'm on such a high today - I hadn't realised how much I'd been worrying about him being healthy etc. No sign of my bruise at all either which is fantastic news.
how's everyone else coming along?

Gem13 · 04/11/2003 15:25

Congratulations! I was only saying to DH this morning that I would rather like another boy too. I didn't want to find out at the scan so 15 weeks or thereabouts to go until we know for sure.

Bruisers are good. My family's homespun theory is that they know what to do (feeding and sleeping) and DS (9'11) lived up to that. You also don't fret about their weight gain/loss so much either!

Tillysmummy · 04/11/2003 16:18

Hi ladies, i haven't posted here for a little while. Have had a few problems with fetal anomaly scan you may have read my other thread. Mine's a boy too. Congrats Morocco too.

moosh · 06/11/2003 10:36

Seems many of us are having boys. Hope all is well for everyone. Especially you Tillysmuumy. XX

LEWEI · 14/11/2003 09:51

Hi everyone, we could not see what flavour we were getting because the little one shut his/her
thighs when they tried to see!!
I seem to be carrying a small rugby player (not that i am complaining).
I have had a huge problem with my bp over the last four weeks, at one point it was 160/95, needless to say i have been ordered to rest and am now taking labetolol to keep it stable.
The weeks seem to be flying past, i think it is because we are so worried about the end!!
At my last appointment i had gained around 12lbs.
Hope you are all well and happy

catkin · 14/11/2003 10:12

Hi, ours is wiggling away morning and evening now which is really reassuring - we actually forgot to even ask what we are having as we were so engrossed in looking at the scan - I don't think our hospital like to say which it might be anyway though ... having said that it all looked so blurry I am sure it would have been near enough impossible to tell!

chatee · 30/11/2003 21:17

hi everyone hope we are all keeping well-our thread seems to have gone a little quiet recently....let's hear some news!!!

morocco · 02/12/2003 17:30

sorry - I seem to have missed the last few messages!
how's the bp lewei? has it settled back down again or is it still high? poor you. I had huge probs with mine last time round - still, make the most of it and put your feet up. I was wondering how your scan had gone - that will teach me to just do 'search last day' messages - missed yours and catkins news entirely.
I'm fine - off to docs again tomorrow but presumably all is OK as I feel well and baby kicks for England - extremely wriggly little fellow and very pointy elbows!
I've been agonising for the last few months about where to have the baby but have more or less decided to stay put and have it abroad like the last one - I'm sorry in some ways as I'd really like to be int he UK, be able to communicate properly without trying to translate everything through the drugs etc but it just seemed impractical in the end to uproot for up to 2 months - so now I'm ordering in the tens machine connections etc and all the other stuff you can't get hold of here.
yesterday I thought my waters had broken! woke up in the middle of the night to realise I was lying in a soaking wet patch of the bed - moment of panic before I realised I was lying on ds's bottle of milk left over from the night before which had spilt everywhere!!
come on everyone - what are you up to and how's it going??

moosh · 03/12/2003 09:58

Well I'm still here. everyone must be getting close to their 28 week checkups soon so this thread will probably get busy again. It has gone really quiet, all is fine with babe and me. Only just realised how quick this pg is really going. So little time to prepare things and so much to prepare. I only have the weekends to do it in and with Xmas and ds birthday rolling up it is all a bit hectic. But i'm loving it! 28 week checkup on Monday I'm sure all is well, baby seems to be star jumping alot and booting the hell out of me. Take care everyone XX

happy1 · 05/12/2003 14:46

Hi everyone! Its been a long time since I last posted or even looked at messages, but it looks as though its been quiet. I had my second scan about five weeks ago and found out we're having a girl! So excited, we went straight to mothercare to buy a pink outfit! Just the one outfit though, just in case! Although the sonographer was very certain. Stay well

Tillysmummy · 07/12/2003 08:07

Hi all also all fine with baby and me. He's wriggling a lot. Dd seems to periodically forget there's a baby coming probably the best thing otherwise she'd pester me every day until March !
Latest installment on our little chap with his little lung 'problem' is that we saw a top professor of fetal medicine at University College Hospital in London. Having felt much like a guinea pig whilst he scanned me and 6 other student doctors peered at the screen, he then gave us some quite good news. The malformation isn't as big as he expected and relative to the growth of the lung appears to be shrinking. Therefore he didn't say the little chap would definitely need an op as soon as he is born and that's good news. Nevertheless they have taken over my care from Watford and the plan is that I will have the baby at UCH. But if it gets even smaller as the baby grows I may well be able to have him back at Watford. We are being scanned every 4 weeks to monitor progress which is reassuring and we are meeting one of the surgeons from Gt Ormond St who does these kind of ops when we next go for a scan on the 17th December. If we are still to have the baby at UCH and not at Watford then they will probably induce me to avoid the possibility of me going into labour naturally and not being able to make it to the hospital in time (dd was a quick labour).

Hope you and bumps are all well. I can see my stomach moving now when he moves as well as feeling it ! It's gone so quickly I can't believe it.

morocco · 08/12/2003 12:44

that's really positive news tillysmummy - so pleased to hear it.
I'm holding the fort this week while dh swans off to Egypt for work - lucky for some. ds is breaking all the computers at work right now so I can get some mumsnet peace and quiet.
have you started all the Christmas malarkey yet?
I've started buying nappies ready for the new arrival already - got some really cute sounding coloured totsbots to show off his tush next summer - talk about planning ahead

moosh · 08/12/2003 15:12

I have finished ds1 Christmas shopping. I started back in July buying stuff that I know he loves for a reduced price in the sale and his birthday is in mid Jan so we have had to but double and split the presents. Yes I have bought all my hospital stuff and begun sorting and cleaning loads of bits from ds1 that i have kept. I am leaving work for good on Jan 28th so we have to buy now and Jan before my wages go down dramatically. My 28 week checkup went well, am a little aneamic which is normal and may have a slight urine infection but all seems well.

Elvis · 08/12/2003 20:47

Oh, you all put me to shame. Getting all your baby stuff ready. I still have to claim all mine back again from the people I loaned it to after last time. I kind of decided to put this off until after Christmas.
Actually as ds2 was 3 weeks early, maybe I should be more efficient. But it's his birthday next week too, so another reason not to!
All well with baby, very active etc. I am measuring 2cm bigger for my dates than I should be. Am consoling myself that this is because I'm having number 3, rather than it being a ten pounder!! Anyone else any experience of this?

chatee · 10/12/2003 20:17

hiya everyone, hope you are all keeping well...
today i had my 28 week scan/appointment and it was the first one i went to by myself(dh working and dd at nursery)so felt quite strange as everyone else in the waiting room had someone with them.
scan was great-the little fella was performing the whole time and even waved(quite lucky as due to my bicornuate uterus they scanned me for measurements etc and then asked if a midwife training to scan could have a 'play'to which i agreed and had a good extra 10 mins and a photo of baby
was booked in for a dose of steroids this weekend(as dd came 7 weeks early)and had just sorted out the childcare for dd(only a couple of hours with friends)on saturday when hospital phoned and postponed them-never mind i didn't fancy walking like john wayne for the weekend especially with my dodgy/painful hip at the mo...apparently only the ligaments stretching!but still sore enough especially at night....
eveyone on hear is putting me to shame i haven't even started anything yet in preparation...the christmas tree and decs went up yesterday and dd is so excited so dh will have to get back in the loft next week and find the clothes so i can make a start..not planning on finishing work until 4th/11th jan and starting off with 2 weeks hols before maternity leave(works out quite well as i only work 2 shifts during school hols)rather than 3 so not bad timingthats all being well....fingers crossed.
lol to everyone

LEWEI · 10/12/2003 22:00

Hi everyone, i have just come back from visiting my family up in the western isles of Scotland. We are going for a growth scan tomorrow, maybe we will find our what flavour we are having!!!!
Bp has been giving me major problems in the last few weeks but fingers crossed it is under control now.
It is so good to see that you are all doing well.
If i don't manage on again before christmas then i wish you all the very best for the festive season and all the luck in the world for the coming year
