Hello! I've just been reading all the messages about the growth scans. It's so confusing because at my last one I was 32+3 and measuring 3lb 13oz and was told that was 14th centile so how someone else had a 4lb baby at 32w and that's somehow only 9th centile it makes absolutely no sense to me 😅

AllAboardTootToot · 02/01/2024 21:43

Sure some ‘professionals’ make it up as they go along in these appointments 😂

I do think some of the figuring out goes on hight of mum ect x

Mummapenguin20 · 02/01/2024 21:47

For me when they told me I was going for 8lb I freaked only one of mine was over 7lb and she got stuck x

msp2023 · 02/01/2024 21:48

I think we all need to remember that predicted birth weights are different for various reasons. Parents genetics, mums weight/age/health etc.
The weight of one baby may be different to another at the same stage of pregnancy but be perfectly fine for that mum!
Our growth charts are based on our height and pre baby weight, just something to keep in mind and try not to compare (easier said than done, I know!)

LavenderSweetPea · 02/01/2024 21:51

@msp2023 thanks for this. I had no idea the percentile they gave you was sort of personal for you, I thought it was based on all the babies regardless of mum's size.

Mangotango39 · 02/01/2024 22:00

I am starting insulin today.
I have managed my GD so well in terms of food through the day, my numbers are perfect however my fasting numbers have crept up and they said that's purely hormonal so not on me.

Baby will now need to come around week 38 (so close!!!!)
I made the decision if they don't arrive by themselves then I want a scheduled c section and they have been so supportive in the GD team re my choice not to induct.
Just need a consultant to sign it off now.

baby has been head down for a while and I hate walking. The pressure is so uncomfy!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 02/01/2024 22:42

I had no idea the percentile was personalised either! Mine was 5lbs at my 34 week growth scan, which they said was about 50th centile.

Ebonythoughts · 02/01/2024 23:39

Baby has been head down since 28 weeks. I’m 35 weeks tomorrow and she’s just done a complete u-turn and her head is under my right rib. Really hope she flips back around before my next midwives appointment 🙈

Shrillwaffle · 02/01/2024 23:54

@Mangotango39 im being induced at 38 weeks also, I find out the date on Friday 😬😬😬 also I’m totally sick of GD I hate it! The metaformin makes me feel so sick and not hungry at all. I truly believe if I wasn’t on quetiapine for my MH I wouldn’t even have to be doing any of it

Shrillwaffle · 02/01/2024 23:55

Also can anyone believe people are allready posting threads for babies due in September 2024! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

novamama · 02/01/2024 23:59

@anony1111 don't worry, I haven't packed any hospital bag team here!! I'll probably make a start this weekend.

I also feel super uncomfortable with pressure down, I can barely walk! I had to stop and pause after 10 min today due to the discomfort.. at least baby girl is head down after living a whole womb life transverse.

Ladies, at my last midwife appointment they thought my waters have broken because of my liquidy discharge. I was in complete denial though, thinking they would better plug me up then, because I was determined not to have this baby 6 weeks in advance lol!!! Thankfully scare lasted 2h only, as amniotic fluid swab came back negative. Got to see some live Brackston Hicks which were really cool to watch as they unfolded and how they got translated into peaks.

Mangotango39 · 03/01/2024 02:26

@Shrillwaffle eeek!
I am not sure why I am pushing c section over induction. The process just doesnt sit right with me but I have heard positives and negatives!

recovery time obviously so much quicker to!!

GD can be tough. As long as I have a small portion of food , my numbers cope well. They gave me the choice metformin or insulin but I chose insulin for the side effects .
I'm not that hungry either sometimes find myself forcing a meal as they stress so much about not skipping or snacks!!

how are your numbers with food? X

undercoverhero74 · 03/01/2024 06:05

I had absolutely no idea that centile was personalised either. I'm 5ft 10 so that may have something to do with it 🤦🏼‍♀️ I just recalled seeing your lovely babies all weighing around the same and wondered why mine was of concern.
What week is everyone planning on starting Mat leave? I had planned to go all the way up to 38 weeks but after struggling to lug my butt out of bed at 5am this morning I just can't see me lasting that long 😂😂

Meeting · 03/01/2024 08:12

Morning all!
I noticed someone mentioned using a ball towards the end of the last thread. Would you recommend I get one if you've used one before? They seem really popular on social media but I've been recently flooded with posts about having a baby and a bit worried about following advice when I have no idea where it's come from.

Gardenfingers23 · 03/01/2024 08:33

@Meeting i have a Swiss ball/birthing ball and use it quite a lot. Just sit on it throughout the day and evening and find it comfortable to move my hips around and open my pelvis up a bit. Apparently it can help get baby into the right position for birth

msp2023 · 03/01/2024 09:54

Right I have another silly question...

Starting to think about my waters breaking - did anyone prepare for this to protect their mattress ie put a towel down or something every night?

I really don't want to soak our brand new mattress and then have to deal with this whilst in labour!

amyg1985 · 03/01/2024 10:07

@msp2023 I've just ordered some incontinence bed protector pads for that very purpose - also helpful to protect the car seat on the way to the hospital etc. Another glamorous aspect of pregnancy!

Mummapenguin20 · 03/01/2024 10:49

@Meeting i swore by my ball last time after my sweep I spent 1hr on my ball had tea 1hr on my ball went to bed and went into labour a hr after. Before my sweep I lived on it it helped the pgp xx

@msp2023 ive just put a matress protector on my matress for the same reason I don’t want to have to get a new one if my waters break in bed xx

msp2023 · 03/01/2024 11:01

@amyg1985 @Mummapenguin20

Thank you both!
I just ordered some incontinence pads as a cheap and cheerful fix. So glam!

undercoverhero74 · 03/01/2024 11:37

@msp2023 I just used a waterproof mattress protector towards the end of my last pregnancy. I didn't need it after all but like you I was sooo worried about ruining my nice new mattress 😂😂😂

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 03/01/2024 12:00

Pregnancy is so glamorous 🤣

These are amazing to put under your sheet, and also fold up teeny tiny to change babies on while out, to use for a sick bug, to line car seat with when they have a sick bug or are potty training, to protect your floor when potty training etc.... Wash and dry quickly babybarenappies.co.uk/products/change-mats?variant=38170878869671

Anyone have any good cotton or bamboo period pant recommendations for after baby is here? Totally overwhelmed by the options, and need them because I got an infection from the synthetic pads

Shrillwaffle · 03/01/2024 12:25

@Mangotango39 my day readings and food readings are always fine always in range around 4.5-6.3 usually this is why it’s annoying I 💯 percent think it’s due to my medication 😫

LavenderSweetPea · 03/01/2024 13:03

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 I've always liked modibodi for period underwear personally. They're a bit pricey but ever so good and mine have lasted for years. They do specific post partum pants I think

msp2023 · 03/01/2024 13:10

Has anybody started/ever done perineal massages?
Think I'm going to start today - quite apprehensive but will try anything and everything just in case!

I've also started raspberry leaf tea and going to start eating 3 dates/say soon. All likely myths but hey ho, nothing to lose!
