Do you mind me asking what your fasting levels are @Shrillwaffle and @Mangotango39 ? I was only diagnosed with GD a couple of weeks ago (now 34+1) and seem to be doing fine with the post-food levels. However my fasting levels are bouncing around a fair bit and seem to be going up first thing in the morning in the past couple of days. Will speak to the GD team if this continues to be the case.

@LavenderSweetPea they have a big sale in atm, thanks for the recommendation!

Mangotango39 · 03/01/2024 14:34

@amyg1985 thats exactly the same as me. Food I tend to get between 4.8 -5.8. Perfect.

But now most morning I'm reading 5.7 or 5.8 . It was previously around 5 (so on the border)

just started insulin so I'll see how it goes...

amyg1985 · 03/01/2024 15:06

Thanks @Mangotango39 - I've been 5.3-5.4 for a few days so may be heading towards some medication too. Hope it works for you!

Mangotango39 · 03/01/2024 15:20

@amyg1985 they reassured me it was normal that levels get higher the further we go, and that fasting is purely hormonal so nothing we can do and no fault of our own xx

MrsW9 · 03/01/2024 16:58

I also just found out at my first growth scan today that the charts are personalised. Baby is on the larger side of average but I am very small, so it comes out as 96th centile. They're testing me for GD on Friday. I've been told about the fasting rules - am I right in understanding that it involves drinking something sugary and then waiting for two hours between blood tests?

AllAboardTootToot · 03/01/2024 17:30

Yeah spot on @MrsW9 . I didn’t find the drink too bad tbh until an hour later when I started rattling with sugar rush 😂

@MrsW9 oh that is so funny about the charts. Do they take both parents size into account, or just the mother? Did they mention of it is height or weight?

Just curious now about the measurements. Mine was est. 5lbs at 33.5 weeks, but that was just under 50th centile (on my chart). They said it's put me roughly at 8.5 lb at term, which sounded a little big to me (but perhaps isn't)

amyg1985 · 03/01/2024 17:39

Hope the test goes well @MrsW9 - take a good book or download something to watch because 2 hrs is a long time to wait on a hard hospital chair (they don't let you move other than to go to the loo). Take some water too. Also set a timer on your phone so you can make sure they don't forget you. They will do a finger prick test and blood test before you drink the sugar and then a blood test 2 hours after. I didn't mind the drink but have a very sweet tooth.

MrsW9 · 03/01/2024 18:00

The chart just takes the mother's size into account (maybe my tall husband accounts for the size of the baby...). My chart definitely takes height into account - I think it might be weight and possibly other factors too, but not sure.

Thanks @amyg1985 for the details - I will definitely bring a book or something!

Cheetocat · 03/01/2024 18:43

Got my bag for the delivery room packed but struggling with the bag for the ward. Apparently it's normal here to be kept in for 3+ days and our hospital has some suites so mam, dad and baby can have their own room, hoping we get one. I've got a good sized carry on suitcase, one side for baby and one side for me. Everything just about fits on baby's side but my towel and dressing gown are already filling my side up and I have a lot more to squeeze in there. 😂

I was allowed to leave the surgery for mine. Went shopping and ran errands for the 2 hours…

@AllAboardTootToot the different rules are so funny. I wasn't even allowed to walk to the toilet, and we weren't allowed any water til the test is over. Apparently both affect the way the sugar is processed

Sunshineclouds11 · 03/01/2024 19:50

TMI
But anyone had this?

Due February 2024 Thread 6!!🤰🩷💙
Cheetocat · 03/01/2024 19:51

Yeah, I was allowed to step outside for air and go to the bathroom during my glucose tolerance test, they said just to stay relaxed and not do anything particularly physical.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 03/01/2024 19:54

@Sunshineclouds11 I'd give triage a quick call and see if they want to check you over. Most likely nothing but just in case it's an early labour signal or something. Do you have any pain?

I've rang them and need to monitor with pad.
Any changes to go in.

Meeting · 03/01/2024 20:13

@Gardenfingers23 @Mummapenguin20 thanks both! Have ordered a ball on Amazon x

@Sunshineclouds11 it's a good sign that they didn't need you to come in as if they're concerned they'll always recommend to do so

Sunshineclouds11 · 03/01/2024 20:34

@Meeting That's it. Fingers crossed it's just been abit of a blip.

anony1111 · 03/01/2024 21:47

@novamama glad it's not just me 🙈 gonna make a start next week I think and get some bits I need as I haven't bought any hospital bag stuff either yet. I'm sure with my first I was packed and ready to go by now 🤣

CharXo · 03/01/2024 22:15

Is anyone else that’s having an elective, still waiting on their date? I’m so anxious I’m going to get forgotten about!

novamama · 03/01/2024 23:03

@anony1111 oh snap! This is my first - whoopsies 😂

Shrillwaffle · 03/01/2024 23:42

@Sunshineclouds11 id just go in if I were you I’m sick of hospitals telling you to monitor things when you need checking 🙄🙄 even if it’s just for reassurance

@amyg1985 same as @Mangotango39 my day levels are fine sometimes after I eat carbs it maybe goes to 7.1 but that’s because I’m a potato fiend 😅😅 in the morning mines about 5.3-5.8 sometimes but daytime a lot of the time it’s like 4.5-5

Kelb79 · 03/01/2024 23:46

im loving my ball - spent 2 hours on it today during an online meeting that I wouldn’t have lasted through on my office chair but also been told they’re great for getting baby head down- my stubborn little munchkin is still firmly sat upright 😐😐😐
I really need to get started on my hospital bag!!! 😳😳😳

Sugarplumw · 04/01/2024 00:06

Does anyone have low oxygen? I have a pulsometer at home and it's dipping to 94%
