Hi all! I'm 4 weeks exactly today, due date is 4th August ☺️ This will (hopefully) be DC2!

How is everyone feeling? I've got sore boobs, mild cramps and waves of nausea that I didn't get until week 6 with my DD so I guess it's starting early, lucky me 🥳

@PolkaDotDot not sure yet. Maybe off until Easter. Im interested in how they do the shared parental leave with going ‘back to work’ for the school holidays to get them fully paid.

Hello all slightly weird question

I'd like to get some babygrows for my husband for christmas - obvs for the baby really, but some funny ones that'll make him smile.

As I'm due mid-Aug should I be looking at short sleeve ones or would long sleeve ones still be useful? Should I get a mix of newborn and 0-3 months? I'm an older mum so don't think they'll let me go overterm and end up with a whopper. This is our first so I've no idea what's useful...

Sorry delayed reply as I'm playing catch up!

Definitely short sleeve for August - you could always have cardis over the top on cooler days. I wouldn't go overboard with newborn sizes - 0-3 is best.

Slowcookertea · 21/12/2023 18:47

@SnookyPook thanks so much for that, I appreciate it. I had up to 14 weeks in my head as well, which is why I was a bit gutted it was so late.

I’ll give them a wee call tomorrow and see.

Going to jump on this as another teacher! It’s such a minefield with mat leave and holidays it seems! I’m hoping to take the 9 months, and then my husband to take shared parental for the remaining 3, and hopefully I’ll be off some of that? Unsure how it all works really though!

Hey guys,

I've had my 7 week 1 day scan and we have a healthy heartbeat! Everything measuring perfectly! I’ve had 3 MCs consecutive never got this far yet ! I am sooo happy!! I burst into tears in room while scanning… 🥰

Sending everyone hugs! Xx

Love this, lovely update ❤️

Completely forgot about the worst pregnancy symptom - i.e. my nipples turning into shards of glass at the merest hint of cold. Been off food today but starving hungry - just don't fancy anything!

I asked on one of my previous posts but don't think anyone replied - has a facebook group been set up? Happy to set one up if anyone else would like one! I find it much easier to check and keep up with than MN!

Omg the other day the towel brushed over my nipple and it felt like razor blades 😱

Sorry, bit delayed on updating after my scan on Monday but all went great and heard the little heartbeat. Hope yours did too @Pixiedust138. Great to see the other good scan news yesterday too!
The tiredness and nausea is completely wiping me out. I feel like I'm being a terrible parent to DD4 who is just so excited about Christmas and I just want to sleep all the time. Can't wait for the Christmas break from work, but also worried about being a rubbish mum to her! How everyone else with older DC surviving the first trimester? I'd love some tips!

My DD is 5 in Jan and I have to say, I've been slacking. Also got no patience for her sass atm, and getting lots of mum guilt from being a mard arse!

SunSparkle · 21/12/2023 19:10

@SnookyPook I'm thrilled you had a good scan. I thought I was 7+2 and measured at 6+4 and they didn't seem concerned at all. I really have all my fingers crossed for you. when are you going back for another scan? How are you feeling?

HAs anyone had a subchorionic haematoma in a previous pregnancy? I've been googling and freaking myself out.

pontipinemum · 20/12/2023 11:55

@Blueberry1990 I just set one up, a lot of people are asking for one. I called it "When the poppies will bloom" because supposedly poppies are the flower of August

I'm happy to change the name so let me know any suggestions. Also would one/two of you be able to be admins as well?

Edited

I've just joined :) Thank you for setting up.

fr4zzledmum · 21/12/2023 19:14

So sorry to read your update @HappySunday1, take care of yourself x

Sorry if I sound really naive, but as this is my first I have a lot to learn 🙈 I was just wondering when you are all having your first midwife appointments etc? I called them earlier this week and they said to call back to arrange an appointment in about 3 weeks (which would take me to 6 weeks +) I was hoping I could speak to someone a bit earlier than that, should I push for an apt sooner or is this normal?

Also as I'm a bit older (almost 35) I'm even more anxious about it all.

I rang the midwifes off when I was 5 weeks and was told I'd get a call back two weeks after. They rang back and my appt is scheduled for when I'm 8+5.

fr4zzledmum · 21/12/2023 19:20

Will be thinking of you @warmbutteredtoast - take it easy and be kind to yourself Flowers

EMJL · 21/12/2023 18:38

@fr4zzledmum hope you're okay! The nausea is next level isn't it? There's a link above for a Facebook group if you'd like to join xx

I've requested to join now :) My initials are ER.

CurlyWurly1991 · 21/12/2023 19:27

Honestly anyone suffering with nausea I highly recommend trying a b6 supplement. I’m taking 50mg per day and it has had a massive impact on my nausea and I can actually eat!

SnookyPook · 21/12/2023 19:31

Thanks @SunSparkle ! And congrats on yours too! Glad you had similar and they were also not worried about it! My understanding is that the measurements can easily be a bit out at this stage. They've offered me another scan in 3wks (10th Jan) due to my previous MMC which was really nice if them. I should be between 9/10wks then and will be past the stage I lost my previous one so it will be super nerve-wracking again but I'm glad I don't have to wait until the 12wk one. I'm resigned to the fact that this first trimester in particular is just going to be a bit anxious but I'm desperately trying to take the wins and enjoy moments too!! Will you have any further scans?

SnookyPook · 21/12/2023 19:32

Love the name of the FB group. Still not feeling up to joining yet but hopefully will be seeing you all on there in the new year ❤️

newjourney21 · 21/12/2023 19:34

Hi all haven't kept up with the thread the last few days my apologies but I went for my early scan today and they found a lovely little baby with a heartbeat measuring 7+1 weeks Smile I thought I was 7 weeks so feeling very reassured and it felt incredible to see that screen. I was so surprised they didn't need to do an internal as could see everything clearly. I hope everyone is doing well and wish everyone an amazing Christmas xx

2024nell · 21/12/2023 21:15

Around 8 weeks is normal for your first appointments to start. It’s crazy because you can often feel like nothings happening until then, especially if you don’t have symptoms!

2024nell · 21/12/2023 21:20

Great that there are so many other august babies on the way! These early days sure are stressful…have a 6 week scan booked on the 2nd Jan due to an ectopic a couple of months ago. Xmas and new year will be no fun for sure!! Have requested to join the FB group initials LG

Karinx · 21/12/2023 21:30

@IMissMargaritas ah that's so exciting! Congratulations on your BFP ☺️

Thank you everyone for the responses regarding first appointment, I will give the midwife another call in the New Year to get booked in.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 21/12/2023 22:45

To the PP who asked about a fibroid. They spotted it early on in my last pregnancy but by the time I got to the later scans they didn't see it / mention it. It basically made no difference to my pregnancy at all.

I feel like utter 💩 tbh. The nausea is next level. I'm on cyclizine and taking a million different supplements (including b-complex) and no difference whatsoever. Roll on second trimester please!

Adventtime · 22/12/2023 00:48

My god the tiredness!! But I didn’t realise it could get worse until insomnia kicked in… tired but can’t sleep - wah.

i have really struggled with cramps, constipation and feeling like I’m dying - I think it’s nausea / morning sickness but everything feels weird!

but then it sometimes stops and I panic. I decided not to go for an early scan - I know there’s no risk with TV scans, but I do worry and would blame myself because I do bleed with anything like a cervical scan etc and have done before with TV scans for medical purposes, so I decided not to. My bloods are being taken on exactly 9 weeks as due to Xmas it’s the first date I can get. Fingers crossed!

Sorry to hear about your nausea, how far along are you?

fsr111 · 22/12/2023 06:51

@CurlyWurly1991 thanks for the advice on the B6 - I will pick some of this up today., although saying that, I seem to have developed an aversion to tablets, the pregnancy vitamins fill me with dread. I'm so nauseous all the time, it's hard work! I tried to help my husband with dinner last night and started crushing garlic and that was that, I was done. 🤢

CurlyWurly1991 · 22/12/2023 07:37

@fsr111 garlic is off limits for me. I think the nausea is like a vicious cycle - heightened smell, food aversion, hunger, nausea preventing you eating, low blood sugar, nausea, eat less, feel worse, etc. I’ve found the b6 lets me eat which means I can try and eat protein regularly, which reduces the nausea, so it improves. Fingers crossed it works for you, and you can swallow the tablets ok! If the b6 works then that should improve within a couple of days.
I had terrible nausea for weeks and weeks in my first pregnancy and had to be signed off work. I wish someone had told me that I didn’t have to suffer with it. If you search mumsnet threads there are hundreds talking about b6, and loads of research papers showing it’s effect over many years.
I don’t think men would be expected to put up with it, somehow.
