Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

Thanks for the new thread AliasGrape

Thank you @Sheera1 - I think I just needed to actually hear that from someone here. That it's still within normal. Instead the consultant just told me she can't comment until she sees the bloods.
Really sent me into a spin.

We will definitely be having NIPT. I'd probably rush out now and get it done but apparently once the hospital calculates my risk and if it's high, they will then carry out the NIPT test.

But for now I must somehow convince myself to believe it's all normal.

AliasGrape · 06/07/2020 11:38

@Clarkel1 Great news about the scan today, hope you’re able to relax a little now and that the pain subsides. Don’t underestimate as well how painful the constipation can be, I was in agony with my bowels in early pregnancy and convinced I was having an ectopic as the pain was all on one side, and I’d had bleeding. The early scan showed my bowel was in spasm. I hope that eases for you soon and the lactulose does its job.

FWIW I’m trying to eat 6 dates a dat to ripen my cervix as apparently it can help! It is giving me very much the opposite problem!

@Dia12 I’m really sorry I don’t know anything about measurements or what’s considered normal. I feel a bit clueless really, I didn’t know anything about NIPT or harmony or anything like that. But if the hospital were actually concerned they’d say so, and people more knowledgeable than me have said the measurements are within the range of normal, so please try not to stress too much. I know it’s so so hard.

I’ve been reading up on induction and what the research says and why they’re so keen to induce us oldies. I feel I’ve got a bit more of a grip on the risks/ figures now and am feeling a little more ok with the idea, although I’m still keen to avoid it is possible. I found this from the RCOG helpful if anyone else is trying to get their head round it. www.rcog.org.uk/en/news/rcog-position-on-plos-medicine-study-inducing-first-time-mothers-aged-35-and-over-earlier-could-reduce-stillbirths-and-neonatal-deaths/

Hi all. Thanks for the new thread @AliasGrape

I'm just marking my place as I am struggling the keep up with everyone now this group is so massive.
But welcome to all the new ladies Smile

I just wanted to say @clarkel1 how thrilled I am for you! You must be so relieved after everything. What did they say about the haematoma? Has it shrunk? And the fibroids and pain?

@sheera1 and @onlyreadingneverposting8 only 4 more days until our 20 week scans!

PS. I finally got a good kick last night after pressing firmly just under my belly button. Good boy! (or girl)

Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 06:57

Morning all,

Its very quiet here. Do you think the others don't know where we are?
We can't write any new messages on the other thread to link this thread!

AliasGrape · 07/07/2020 07:54

@Frazzlerock I was worrying that too! I tried to post the link on the other thread but it was full.

I thought tagging people in the dates list might have alerted them but don’t know if that actually works!

OP posts:
Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 08:13

Yeah its weird as I don't get notified when someone puts the dates list up with the @mentions, but I do if mentioned on other posts. MN oddness!

fool11 · 07/07/2020 08:20

Good morning ladies, can't believe the other thread is full already. Hope you are all well.
I'm struggling for the past few days, feel really uncomfortable, he is kicking like crazy, especially in the evenings, it actually hurts. His head is all the way down and when he kind of turns, i think, i get a really bad shooting pain in my groin, at some point i though i'm going to wet myself..TMI, sorry..really hope the sweep next week will work and he will be out. Still working so sitting in front of computer all day doesnt help.

glad to hear all is fine @Clarkel1.

My nhs measurement NT was 1.7, but my private one was 1.9, 2.1 and 2.3mm @Dia12, and i'm 45..so my initial risks were high, i think 1 in 39 for downs. I had a harmony test, as i had it with my first as well, it came back low, as less than 1 in 10000 but i'm still kind of worried..i think you will always be worried about something till you have your baby in your arms and they say it's all fine..and you worry again, about other things..it just doesn't stop, does it..hope all will be fine with your test.

I did get an alert/email when you updated the dates list so i think it does work.

Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 09:48

Morning @fool11 Oh I remember that from the DS years ago. Hghly uncomfortable? When is your actual due date?

I've just had my first haircut in months. My friend is a mobile hairdresser and just started working again yesterday. We've obviously not had anyone else in our house since lockdown began so it was a bit weird! And she turned up looking like she'd just stepped off of a spaceship with her face shield and mask on Grin
I'm so bloody paranoid though. I trust her implicitly and I know she disinfects everything between clients, but I can imagine all the germs in illuminous green like that advert that used to be on telly!
So nice to have a decent cut now though

Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 09:49

That should be a ! not a ? after 'Highly uncomfortable'

WhatWouldPennyDo · 07/07/2020 09:51

Hello everyone,

Haven’t been around much but didn’t realise the thread was still going as I’m not on the master list so don’t get the notifications!

Hope you’re all keeping well. Looks like more babies will be arriving soon Smile How lovely!

25 weeks here and feeling huge.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 07/07/2020 09:53

@Frazzlerock so jealous of a haircut! Mine needs a good couple of inches lopped off but my hairdressers have whacked up the price by 30% as a post Covid measure. Not ideal when a cut and colour already costs £175! Will hold out a while longer, I think!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 07/07/2020 09:58

Oooo hello! You're all here! Was wondering if a new thread had been started! Everyone ok?!

Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 10:04

@WhatWouldPennyDo My friend charges £15 for a haircut so its super cheap - literally just a trim off the ends though, nothing fancy. . I'd love to have my hair coloured but I don't colour my hair during pregnancy so that will have to wait until baby is here. I go to a salon near my office in London for my colour and that's the costly part! My greys aren't toooo bad so I'm happy to wait Smile
Not sure why you fell off the list! Wanna add yourself back on?

@onlyreadingneverposting8 Ah I thought you'd get my tag further up. Not long until scan day, for us! How are you feeling?

WhatWouldPennyDo · 07/07/2020 10:10

Good idea @Frazzlerock.

fool11 · 07/07/2020 10:11

It is really painful, my EDD is 29 July, however as a high risk, having a sweep next week - at 38w and if it doesn't work, then induced at 39w on 22 July..so not long..and it feels like he wants out anyway..Going to try to harvest the colostrum this week, as was struggling to feed with the first one, nurse was so pushy and squeezing my nipple so hard it was bleeding..got some syringes from a midwife during last appointment so will try and see if i can freeze some..but have bottles and formula ready too...

So jealous of a haircut, haven't had one for a year now, i think, hair is a mess and won't be able to go before the baby is born. Been colouring my hair at home myself..and not doing a great job as my 5y old told me.. :)

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 07/07/2020 10:11

@Frazzlerock over did it at the weekend and had a rough day yesterday! My washing machine broke too 🤦🏽‍♀️ I didn't breakdown though! 🤣 Feeling better today (yay!!!) I am very anxious about the scan!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 07/07/2020 10:13

No hair cuts for me yet...tbh I only get one about once a year anyway 🤣

Frazzlerock · 07/07/2020 10:37

@fool11 I have been in touch with a LLL consultant who has been brilliant and has put together a breast feeding plan for me as I have hypoplasia (lack of milk producing breast tissue - another PCOS bastard issue Sad) and my 2 DC failed to thrive on my milk which i was devastated about. She has recommended I collect colostrum from 37 weeks and is giving me a pack on Friday when I go for my scan.
I've read its actually quite a common thing to do these days, even if thee is no previous issue with BFing - not sure how helpful it is if there is no problem. But great that you're taking positive steps to help after struggling before. I really hope it helps and I look forward to hearing how it goes!

@onlyreadingneverposting8 sorry you've been feeling rough but glad all is well today. Yeah I'm also anxious about Friday. If only these babies would move a bit more eh?
FWIW, I never bothered much with my hair for years before. But then I had about 6 months until our supposed wedding day and I wanted it in good shape for our big day so I booked my friend in every 8 weeks so it would be healthy looking. Then lockdown happened so obvs no big day and no haircuts. But I am starting again to have my 8 weekly cuts as it feels so much better and will prep for Big Day No2 next April.

Nice to see you on the list again @WhatWouldPennyDo Smile

Dia12 · 07/07/2020 12:36

Hi all, hope everyone's doing well.

Thank you for your reply @fool11, really reassuring. I actually got my bloods back yesterday and I am indeed at high risk for Edwards's and Patau's at 1:136 but thankfully low risk for Downs at 1:191.

I've been back in today to give blood for NIPT and will get results back next thurs. The test is only 87% accurate for Edwards and Patau. If it comes back high then pretty likely baby is affected and will go for amniocentesis before any kind intervention.

The midwife supposedly "counselling" me was so harsh and kept challenging my questions. I found her to be utterly heartless and abrasive. And I was so close to breaking point.

Anyway, just need to suck it up and see what the NIPT results bring back. Not sure how to continue loving being pregnant in the meanwhile.

footprintsintheslow · 07/07/2020 13:02

@Dia12 are you in Wales as that's what happens here, NIPT next if you are high risk

footprintsintheslow · 07/07/2020 13:05

Oh @Dia12 I've just read your update. You sound like you are having a horrible time and that midwife sounds dreadful. Not sure if you have the energy for it but it might help to feedback about your experience.

Also there will be threads on MN with women going through the same as you. You are never ever alone on MN and people always understand and know what you are going through.

Dia12 · 07/07/2020 13:05

No frazzlerock, I'm in Birmingham. I didn't realise NIPT would be offered on nhs but really grateful that it is.

Dia12 · 07/07/2020 13:09

Thank you @footprintsintheslow. MN has been a real lifeline when there really isn't anyone I know in RL that could relate to what's happening.

I will definitely give some feedback about my experience when I'm a little less emotional!
I've thought of midwives as lovely and warm Confused

Sheera1 · 07/07/2020 13:16

Hi! I am so slow. I was checking the "threads I'm on" and only saw my last comment. Was thinking it had gone a bit quiet. This was easy to find once I looked and well done @aliasgrape being on the ball.

@dia12 that is great that they do the NIPT if you are high risk. They don't here which is rubbish as it is so expensive. We also don't screen for Edward's or patau's in Scotland at all! I think they check at the anomaly scan but no bloods for it. My NIPT failed due to lack of fetal DNA 3 times and they wouldn't do a 4th. Worrying a bit now.

@Frazzlerock Yay on a wee kick. Bet you start feeling them more now. And yes counting the days till Friday @onlyreadingneverposting8 for you too. I am at 1.30 for my scan and getting whooping cough after it. What time are you both? I am shitting myself. I called and they said still no partners up here.

I am getting awful headaches daily at the mo and heartburn. Even my boiled eggs gave me heartburn today. X

Sheera1 · 07/07/2020 13:19

Aww @Dia12 so sorry the midwife was harsh. I came across a few like that with ds when I was in hospital for a week after birth due to spinal headache thing. It really dropped my mood and coping skills. I bet the tests come back all good. Our age just Jack's up the nhs probability and am sure all is fine. They are such rare conditions. I freak out too. xx
