Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I missed your post somehow! Great news on the scan and the baby girl 💕 Lovely that you’re OH could be there too.

@PregnantPorcupine so with you on the wanky affirmations! I try to listen every night as I’m getting ready for bed, I do tend to zone out a bit though. The most important ones for me are just telling myself I’m calm and safe, and that I will be able to handle whatever happens. Believing that can be a different story though Grin

Reading the study definitely helped me understand more about why they’re pushing the induction. I do wonder if I caved too early and should have asked for another scan later on to see where we were then decided after that, but on balance I think I’m ok with the decision now.

@Sheera1 sorry you’re struggling with headache and worrying now too! How are you feeling today?

Urgh sorry for typos

ah yes I'm sorry too @@onlyreadingneverposting8 what lovely news!

I was so hoping by now that partners would be allowed into NHS scans but sadly not Sad I'm going to try and Facetime DP on Friday or record the end again if they let me.

fool11 · 08/07/2020 11:53

Morning all, hope you are all well.

Hope your headache is better today @Sheera1..i had a really bad ones around 28w, to the point i couldn't even sit up, had to lie down, it was horrible. I normally have a very low blood pressure, but when i went for a check up it was all fine (always the case)..it improve within a few weeks, but do get yourself checked, hopefully it will be all fine.

yes, we have the same EDD @PregnantPorcupine..i presume you don't need to be induced etc so aiming for 40w if not health issues..
there is actually one lady on that list whose EDD is on my birthday :)

There aren't many childminders in our area, unfortunately, @Frazzlerock, the one we found for our DD seemed so nice and lovely, but hey..i used to work as an aupair and also nanny, and i know some are good and some are not. I wouldn't mind to have an au pair but unfortunately we don't have a spare room, i don't even have a room for this baby, will have to stay in our room, as are loft conversation is now on hold, not sure when it will happen..currently working from home, as our london office is closed, but my bosses are not very 'child friendly'..once the things are back to normal, they want everyone in the office, and even know, when wfh, they keep calling all the time, to make sure you are doing some work (and not caring for your kids, you can do that after work hours..)

I had my first child at 40 and compare to now, 45, i def felt like a spring chicken :)..we also hoped to have the second earlier, but unfortunately i had a mmc and then it just didn't happen..this is ivf and our last try, we didn't tell anyone, hence people asking if it was an accident because of my age etc..which really makes me angry.

PregnantPorcupine · 08/07/2020 11:56

Great news @onlyreadingneverposting8!

fool11 · 08/07/2020 12:01

congratulations @onlyreadingneverposting8 ..glad all is fine, you can relax a little bit now..

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/07/2020 13:51

@AliasGrape thanks! @Frazzlerock yes I was hoping partners would now be allowed and as it got closer anxiety got a bit out of hand! We actually did the same with my last baby due to husbands work commitments, which meant he couldn't make the NHS one! Still have to have the NHS one though as, as you know private scans aren't counted as valid.
Today has been filled with more worry as our ds (who has Colitis) has been put back on strong steroids and told to shield until he's on a lower dose! So we are currently working out the risk of things and how to mitigate for them!! They're also talking about treating him with an immunosuppressant drug (as in the type you have when you have an organ transplant), which would mean he'd have to shield until that treatment were over (months). 😲

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/07/2020 13:52

@Sheera1 glad to hear the headache is better!

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/07/2020 13:56

Thanks @fool11 - the number of people that feel they can ask if a baby is planned or not never fails to astound me!!! My consultant (over the phone) who I have never met asked how many more babies I was planning 😳😠 I curtly replied "none" but am actually still really annoyed that that was basically the first question she asked me!!

Frazzlerock · 08/07/2020 14:03

@onlyreadingneverposting8 my consultant also asked me if I was planning anymore children. It was so she could tell me about sterilisation during my c-section which, TBH is quite appealing. I could never ever go through the hell of losing another baby ever again (hadn't planned this one due to the same reason) and we can't manage a 4th anyway even if we wanted one, so it is something I was seriously considering. However, she did say that lots of women regret the decision so I most likely won't do.

I had to Google colitis. I think a friend of mine as something similar. Does your DS have to avoid certain foods? Or is it way more complicated than that?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 08/07/2020 14:32

@Frazzlerock yer - I said I would be interested in being sterilised - what annoyed me was it was
Basically the first question she asked and I had to tell her the more important things like "I'm high risk for a DVT". I don't like women gyny/obs - the male ones always seem much more sympathetic and accommodating!!

Frazzlerock · 08/07/2020 15:03

Ah yes I see what you mean. I don't think that was the first thing she asked me but it was high up in the list. I'm in two minds about my consultant. She's actually my recurrent MC consultant and was a bit funny with me after we'd lost our third and I went to her for advice on why I wasn't getting pregnant. she basically was like 'well there's nothing I can do...'. she's much more interested now I'm pregnant and this one is going well, like she played a part in that Hmm
When we were going through all our losses and I asked her questions about things I'd researched to help improve our chances she brushed them off and made me feel really silly.
So yeah maybe it is because she's female!

fool11 · 08/07/2020 15:21

hope your DS feels better soon @onlyreadingneverposting8 ..my DH has colitis and it's not fun (although we managed to keep it under control with diet and some meds for a few years now), must be hard for him and you.

Samk79 · 08/07/2020 18:38

Hello ladies, just trying to catch up with the new thread!
I'm 30 weeks now and starting to get very uncomfortable!
Hope everyone is doing okay x

Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 10:21

Morning all.

Hey @Samk79, wow, only 10 more weeks to go!

So, after getting the odd subtle poke every several days for the past 4 weeks, I had loads of baby wriggles and kicks yesterday Grin so my anxiety has dropped quite a bit. This meant I could start my wish list of baby items.
Aaaaaannnndd..... I've just bought our first bigish baby item! Managed to get a Snuzpod3 on Ebay for £100 and going to collect this weekend. Not told DP yet as he's upstairs in meetings. I hope he doesn't think its too soon! Probably should have waited until after our scan tomorrow but given last scan was only three weeks ago and all was well then and now getting lots of movement (long may it continue) I am feeling more optimistic about tomorrow.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 09/07/2020 10:32

@Frazzlerock that's great! Was going to ask if you'd had more kicks because I've had a load more yesterday and today! So many that I haven't even felt the need to use the Doppler! I'm still nervous for tomorrow despite the normal scan on Tuesday- like you..."what if they missed something"...which I keep telling myself is highly unlikely - the sonographer was definitely thorough! I haven't bought anything yet except yarn and the stuff I've made. I did go through the girls dolls clothes, which have some of their stuff in but mostly it is stained. Told my Mum on Tuesday night....her reply "oh you're pregnant again!" And after changing the subject she came back a bit later with "so...do you know whether it's a girl or a boy?". She thinks we have a good relationship....

Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 10:40

Oooh @onlyreadingneverposting8 our babies must be synced! So pleased you're getting more movements too. It really helps with the overthinking mind doesn't it.

Your relationship with your mother sounds similar to mine. She's better these days, but she was just as you described in the past. I think she's realised people have emotions after seeing all the shit we've been through. She's not brilliant, but she does try harder these days. Is she a good grandmother?

Talking of yarn, I made another little something a couple of days ago. Will post a pic...

Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 10:44

I think I'm getting the hang of this crochet thing now.
For the other crocheters, the pattern is here:

https://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2017/07/crochet-zebra-based-yarnspirations-knit-zebra.html

She's the lady who wrote the animal book DP bought me

I also bought Edwards Menagerie and I'm really looking forward to having a go at those. Still working on the massive rainbow blanket though

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 09/07/2020 11:36

@Frazzlerock you are far too good!!! That is amazing - I've got Edwards menagerie too...but I don't think I'm good enough to do any 😳😕 I'm still doing a pink blanket that is taking an age...I also stopped doing it (the anxiety over the scan - told you it got out of hand!) anyhow I've started again now and am determined to get it finished in the next week!!!

Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 11:48

Honestly, it is just following the steps and I only choose patterns with easy to follow steps. You could easy do that zebra. (not a moose as my mum thought)
Although I think I overfilled it but that's just a learning curve Smile

I dare you to have a go at the Edwards Menagerie animals once you're finished with the blanket - don't forget to show us!

Sheera1 · 09/07/2020 16:56

Putting a post on for Realladymarmalade to find us.

I called about my headaches and they were not interested lol. First midwife said as it was a persistent headache I had to call triage. Called triage and she was not interested. Said no way of pre-eclampsia at 21 weeks and to "take care bye". Oh well then.

Will speak to them when in tomorrow for my scan. Getting so nervous now. Feel like the movements have been mush less.

So pleased @Frazzlerock and @onlyreadingneverposting8 that you are getting lots of wee nudges now too.

Pics tomorrow ladies. X

footprintsintheslow · 09/07/2020 18:44

Finished my blanket last night.

As for a he Menagerie book it is dead simple and I've made a few out of there if anyone wants help.

Thread 2 for us classed as more mature pregnant ladies
Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 20:03

Oh @footprintsintheslow I LOVE it! Would you mind sharing the pattern if it's online?

Frazzlerock · 09/07/2020 20:07

@Sheera1 maybe it's really nothing to be worried about then. But it doesn't sound like a very sympathetic midwife unit 😤

I'm sure all is perfect with baby but I totally understand the nerves!

I'm looking forward to all the pics tomorrow! I can't believe we are halfway there now 😳

footprintsintheslow · 09/07/2020 20:33

@Frazzlerock I've just made it up.
(American terms)
Started with chain stitch for as long as I fancied it and then double crochet for 8 rows of grey.

Then each rainbow section I did a different stitch which I chose from looking on YouTube tutorials. Some are single crochet rows alternating with grey single crochet rows.
One is two single crochet rows of a colour then one grey single crochet row.
There a V stitch in there and also a made up variation of the bobble stitch.

Each rainbow section is followed by 8 rows of grey double crochet rows. I then edged it with grey single crochet and added the rainbow border.

You could make follow those vague tiles or make it up yourself.
