Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

I just had my 30 week growth scan. The sonographer said she is 97th percentile for waist circumference and over 97th for head circumference! She's also estimated to be above average for weight at this stage. Got to say I am a bit worried she is going to be huge 🙈. Will wait and see what the midwife says when I see her in a couple of weeks. Was lovely to see her again and was an added bonus that my partner was allowed into this one x

Frazzlerock · 04/09/2020 16:04

@onlyreadingneverposting8 haha, nah nothing shocks me Grin

@DufferedUp that is awesome news! I bet you feel so much better. I hope the incontinence is sorted ASAP.

@NaomiB79 Woah!! Are you and DP tall? I have pretty big babies too. Both of mine were on the 90 something centile at birth. Mind you, I'm told we should take those growth scans with a large pinch of salt. I've my first growth scan next Weds then again at 34 weeks.
How come your DP was allowed in? I asked my midwife yesterday and she said still no partners into scans Sad

NaomiB79 · 04/09/2020 16:19

@Frazzlerock no we're not tall, I'm 5ft 3in and he's 5ft 9in. His family all have big heads tho, the sonographer just looked at him and said he had a big head si that's prob why the baby does 😂. I am a bit worried about giving birth to a big baby tho! I live in Edinburgh and was told a few weeks ago that partners are allowed into scans here now but I think it might be different in different trusts. I would phone the hospital where you are getting the scan and check as it changes so much it's prob hard for the midwifes to keep up to date.

footprintsintheslow · 04/09/2020 19:07

I didn't realise you can follow your health board on Facebook and specifically in our area the maternity services have a page so scan rules and partners are announced on there.
Partners are allowed in for 12 and 20 scans and those with baby medical conditions.

As for varicose veins, I have one leg where they go top to bottom and they are very prominent on the inside of my knee and ankle. So I feel in excellent company here.

Sheera1 · 04/09/2020 19:22

Aww @@onlyreadingneverposting8 not at all. Well done for dealing with them to have your lovely children.

@dufferedup I am so soo pleased that it worked for you. Much be such a relief and you can get home asap.

I am getting texts from the hospital here (Scotland) says partners can attend but only 12 and 20 weeks so guess he isn't getting to come to the growth scans either. Boo. I don't have one till 33 weeks 1st Oct. Well last day of my 32nd week according to there due date.

I got my bloods back from midwife appointment this week and all is looking fine. Just shows that weight doesn't always mean gestational diabetes. I was fine with ds too. I had just had a can of full fat Irn bru before I went in. Oops.

My drama continues with ds and DP both being really Ill with bad colds. DS was sobbing away at midnight as feeling so ill. DP had a cough and it just go worse so he went for a covid test today. We are pretty confident it is just a cold but he needs to know he can work next week (no pay if he doesn't work). I seem to be ok for now. Fingers crossed!

Sheera1 · 04/09/2020 19:35

In solidarity ladies here are my gross clexane injection bruises on my tummy. X

@Sheera1 I've had a really bad cough and cold the last couple of days, and generally I'm feeling pretty grim! I am hoping and praying it is just a cold but we went today to the drive in test centre for a Covid test and should have the results back in 24 hours. My DP has no symptoms but we got him tested too. Fingers crossed for negative results all round!

jalu47 · 05/09/2020 18:43

@NaomiB79 I've had a really sore throat and a bit of a cold, with a sporadic cough, nothing continuous though. I don't think it's covid but have been a little worried. I looked up the test and it said the nearest drive in centre with availability was 73 miles away (I'm in London!) so has got to be wrong. I've had it for 4/5 days now and not getting worst so hoping it's nothing. If it hasn't gone away in a couple of days I think I'll get the test through the post..

jalu47 · 05/09/2020 18:44

@NaomiB79 out of interest did you book your test or just rock up? I know one is nearby but wasn't sure if you had to book?

NaomiB79 · 05/09/2020 18:59

@jalu47 I booked online last night and we went this morning, I think you have to pre-book unless there are any walk-in centres near you. It gave me the option of a few centres and showed how many slots they each had for today. The nearest one to me was 24 miles away, even tho I live in Edinburgh, we had to go to a smaller town down in the Borders but I just wanted the test done so we made the trip down. There is a real shortage of the home testing kits available just now, they didn't have any showing available online so you might find that pretty tricky. It's ridiculous that there are no tests available in some places and people have to travel long distances to get tested.

Sheera1 · 05/09/2020 21:44

Our test was negative thank goodness. DP's cough is worse but he is feeling better than he was. He had to book online and went to Prestwick. We are near Glasgow so maybe 30 miles drive. Glasgow is peaking at the mo so prob busy. Very relieved not covid but glad we checked. X

NaomiB79 · 06/09/2020 08:12

Our test results came back negative too! I still feel horrendous but at least I know it's not Covid. Was so worried about whether it would affect the baby.

BuffaloMozzerella · 06/09/2020 10:22

Hi everyone can I join too please? I've been reading for ages but haven't posted yet as I've felt so far behind you all!

So I'm 40 and 15 weeks with second baby - due at the end of Feb. We already have a 15 month old DD who is lots of fun and sooo energetic now. Not sure how I'm going to manage with two...seemed a good idea at the time....😅. I have been sick as a dog for weeks now and hoping it's going to start getting better soon. I am not a woman who glows when pregnant - more like ages 5 years!

It's so lovely to read everyone's updates and what a bonus seeing the pictures of the gorgeous newborns 🥰

Frazzlerock · 06/09/2020 14:40

Glad to hear the Covid tests cane back neg! I hope you guys feel better soon. I guess we're heading into bugs territory now. Is anyone getting another flu jab? I've just remembered my consultant wanted me to get one a couple of months ago but no flu jabs available out of season...

Welcome @BuffaloMozzerella I hope the sickness subsided ASAP!

Has anyone requested to join the FB group with initials LC? (Might be you Buffalo?)
I've not seen a PM so I just want to check before I accept! 😬

Sheera1 · 06/09/2020 15:19

My midwife mentioned flu jab when I was in last week @frazzlerock I normally get it anyway. She said they are bringing it forward due to covid.

In my other news. Having stopped crazy buying on marketplace I got a 4moms mamaroo for £50! Wasn't going to get one as even 2nd hand really pricey but for £50 it is worth a punt.

Frazzlerock · 06/09/2020 15:34

I had to google that @Sheera1 £270 new!! 😱 That's a real bargain!

We've got a couple of 2nd hand bouncers. One Baby Bjorn one and a Fisher Price one. I figured we'd have one upstairs and one downstairs.

BuffaloMozzerella · 06/09/2020 16:46

@Frazzlerock yes that's me!

footprintsintheslow · 06/09/2020 21:35

Welcome along @BuffaloMozzerella.

I've been camping this weekend so just catching up now. I say camping but really we have a shed which I call 'the chalet' tongue in cheek. Glad to have a real bed tonight.
Scan tomorrow to check placenta action so will update everyone afterwards.

jalu47 · 06/09/2020 21:39

Glad all the COVID tests came back negative, I'm feeling a bit better today, especially after an afternoon nap. Think I'm just a bit run down!

@Frazzlerock I've been looking at second hand baby bjorns too but they still seem so expensive. Kind of think for the extra £50 or so I'd get one new... a bit undecided on that one.

Has anyone bought a sling yet? There is so much choice and they seem quite an expensive purchase - to be honest I don't really know where to start!

Clarkel1 · 06/09/2020 22:37

@onlyreadingneverposting8 thanks , feel better knowing I'm not alone , yeah mine are caring on right up to the lady garden arse also and they are really painful, so so much pressure down there, all over feel like my ass is about to bust open (sorry TMI) try to talk to DH and he says oh god that's making me feel funny... is that right? Try having it 😡 😂 he means well but is squeamish , poor soul 😜

Sheera1 · 07/09/2020 04:47

@jalu47 I am obsessed with marketplace bargains and slings were no exception. I have a babbling which I also used with ds. Great for early days and breastfeeding as provides a cover if out and about and not confident yet. Never really felt secure enough not to keep a hand in place though.

This time I bought a close caboo 2nd hand. It seems pretty good. It is like a wrap but is already in the shape and you just pull the straps. Think it looks good and secure.

I also have been given just a wrap which is a stretch of material you tie yourself. (Think free in Scotland baby box). Tbh I would never have bought one thinking it was too hard to tie, but having a day it is actually easy and out of all of them I think I will try it when baby is here. I am a big lass so lots of carriers don't fit. I had a babybjorn for DS when he was bigger and it was amazing but seems a bit tight this time compared to the one I had with DS (or maybe I am bigger 🤦‍♀️).

Glad you are feeling a bit better too. How many weeks are you? I felt shattered about 22 weeks but have felt a lot better since.

footprintsintheslow · 07/09/2020 07:24

I really want a baby Tula explore sling as it does everything. Bloody expensive though.

babytula.co.uk/collections/explore-baby-carrier

And I know really that I just like to use the pram but with a toddler I think sling is the way forward. But then I think my others didn't really like being cooped up like that.

Ahhhh I'm just not sure what to do.

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 07:42

@footprintsintheslow I hope you enjoyed camping! I've really missed it this year. We normally go with a huge load of others so weren't able to do it this year Sad

@jalu47 You can buy Baby Bjorns in really good condition. I think its worth saving half the price tbh for things like that. Then you can sell on for about the same price as they all seem to be around the £50 mark.
We bought a Close Caboo - seems to have great reviews but no idea if we'll get on with it! It was reduced quite heavily in their website so I went for it. We bought this one:
I had a wrap thing ( I think it was a moby) for DS2 and there was so much material I just couldn't get my head aroudn it, then when I finally had it on it just felt weird! So I wanted to find one that was like a wrap but already made up and Close Caboo seemed to meet those requirements Smile Lets see if it works!

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 07:43

@footprintsintheslow those Tula's are lovely I agree! I had contemplated one and might get one second hand if the Caboo doesn't work out. Gorgeous prints!

jalu47 · 07/09/2020 08:08

@Sheera1 I'm 26 weeks now.. think maybe it's just all catching up with me!

@footprintsintheslow those Tula slings look lovely, haven't seen them before, but woah they are pricey!

I've had my eye on one of these for when bubs is very small

freeriderco.com/?currency=GBP

Then think I'll wait to get a more substantial one when he's a bit older and most likely just get a second hand one. I've heard about sling library's.. no clue what they are but I'll look it up!
