Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

I had a Moby wrap for DD, but I wished I'd bought the non-stretchy version after using it a few times as I found it bounced it a bit when she was in it which I didn't like. Once she was a bit more sturdy I bought a second hand Connecta which I loved.

I found myself stopping women in the street to ask if the sling they were using was comfy and what was it 😂

Unfortunately though I didn't use them as much as I thought I would as I developed a prolapse after the birth which means I had to be cautious about carrying too much weight, so as she got heavier I stopped.

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 09:51

Oh I aw those @jalu47. I love the leaf print one

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 09:51

*saw

DufferedUp · 07/09/2020 10:51

eBay is your friend for slings. I got a close caboo for £25 so can always sell it for close to that if I don't get on with it. I've put her in it as a trial and it seemed pretty secure for a turn around the living room.

Back in hospital today as the headache returned yesterday so they are doing another blood patch. Sad

footprintsintheslow · 07/09/2020 11:25

I love the Tula and you can use it it till their four years old so my though was if my two year old suddenly refused to walk I could whip it out from the bottom of the pram and put her in. They can go on your back too.

I just don't know if I can warrant the cost but if I buy on eBay I won't have the choice of all the fabrics. I know I sound like a twat by the way but there's so many lush ones.

Off into the hospital now for a scan.

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 12:20

Oh @DufferedUp I hope this fixes it once and for all.

Good luck at your scan @footprintsintheslow let us know how you get on. I just looked on FB marketplace for Tula and the choice of designs is a bit shit and they still go for £60-£100 second hand! Not tried Ebay yet

footprintsintheslow · 07/09/2020 12:41

I think I'll wait and think about a carrier. They always have a good January sale and new customers get 10% off so you can combine the two.

Anyway just been in for a scan and all was well. Apparently the baby has a really fat belly and very long legs. They are also kissing the placenta over and over as it's in front of their face.

Frazzlerock · 07/09/2020 13:41

Great news @footprintsintheslow!

I've got a scan on Weds. I feel enormous and fully expect them to tell me we have another big'un!

NaomiB79 · 07/09/2020 13:45

Glad the scan went well @footprintsintheslow. It's lovely getting to see the baby again! Welcome to the big baby club 😂

Sheera1 · 08/09/2020 18:33

Hi ya. Think we need a new thread as getting close to max messages. Someone with PC access fancy doing it and pinning the last list of us and putting the new thred name here? X

Frazzlerock · 08/09/2020 20:29

My laptop is off now but happy to do it tomorrow if no one else does between now and then 😊

gilljill1980 · 08/09/2020 20:59

Hi All,
If it's not too late to ask to join on this thread, could I join you please?
I'm due 16/02/21 and have a 19 month old already so am still feeling the fear really of coping with number 2 while my first is incredibly active and never stops climbing!

Also I wondered if anyone is considering a home birth, I had one for my first but now that I'm 40 I'm being referred to a consultant as the trust "don't recommend them for anyone 40 and over"... I'm keen to try it again but also apprehensive about the discussions around it to be honest... sorry if this has already been discussed, I've only just found this thread and started to read back through.

Look forward to getting to know everyone better....I'd also love to join the facebook group if poss xx

footprintsintheslow · 08/09/2020 21:29

@gilljill1980 congratulations we are not too dissimilar. I'm 40 and have a 2 year old and due in January. Can't imagine how to cope with two.
I actually already have 2 but my first is 21 so I've only had one at a time.

A home birth is the last thing I'd want. I like the thought of everything professional and emergency being on hand but one of my closest friends is all for them and loved her last one.

Frazzlerock · 09/09/2020 07:40

Morning all!

Hey @gilljill1980 welcome!
Re homebirth, I used to be all for it and considered it for DC2 (he ended up being breach so it was taken out of my hands) , but having spent the last few years in the babyloss world, I wouldn't do it now as I know far too much. But I know they can be wonderful and perfectly safe - I'm just hugely paranoid these days. I'll drop you a PM for the FB group

jalu47 · 09/09/2020 08:56

@Frazzlerock could you please drop me a PM about the Facebook group too, would also be keen to join. Thanks!

Has anyone explored hypnobirthing? I'm reading Practical Ways to Make Your Birth Better and really enjoying it. It's not as hippy dippy as I thought and as a FTM have found it really useful in dispelling some of the preloaded stereotypes I had around birth... @gilljill1980 it also talks a lot about home births which might be helpful. (Also welcome to the group!)

gilljill1980 · 09/09/2020 09:02

Thanks for the welcome everyone :-)

@footprintsintheslow thanks - solidarity in coping with 2 littlies. I'm hoping my daughter is out of the biting phase by then as it's pretty relentless!

@Frazzlerock thanks for the PM to the FB group - home birth wasn't something I considered until I did hypnobirthing online. Also I wanted a waterbirth and the nearest hospital to me only had 2 pools in 7 rooms - I didn't like those odds to be honest and the hospital is only 1 mile away so I can still get there quickly.

@jalu47 I did a online hypnobirthing course for my first pregnancy and loved the science bits and the reassurance it gave me - it totally turned my head from wanting all the drugs to wanting a home birth. But I was also very lucky that it all worked out. Let me know if you want the link to the course I did, it has lots of videos and info to work through and the lady who runs it was amazing.

jalu47 · 09/09/2020 10:36

@gilljill1980 yes please - a link to more resources would be great.

Sheera1 · 09/09/2020 20:46

Just reminder of the new thread as this one will stop letting us post.

Post on the new thread please 💕 xx

Hello Mums of older age.
I have just found out that I’m pregnant at 43. I have two kids aged 7 and 5. How did all of your births go in 2020? I’m still in shock, as obviously this wasn’t planned but I’m not unhappy. How are you all coping?
