Hi everyone.
I noticed our thread was about to fill up, so thought I’d start a new one quick. Hope that’s not too presumptuous of me and have to say thank you to @Sheera1 for starting the thread.

As the title says it’s a discussion thread for any pregnant women who are classed as that bit older for a mum to be.

Copying our list over so we can keep up. If you would like to join please copy and paste the list, adding your own details in date order.

Really hope I’m doing this right! 🙈

@fool11 baby is a girl ☺️ I said originally that I was erring on the side of having a surprise....I lasted until 15 weeks to find out 😂😂 And have made each sonographer confirm it! I wasn't bothered either way.

fool11 · 10/07/2020 12:45

Congratulations @onlyreadingneverposting8....we found out at 12w with our harmony test..i would not be able to wait till the baby is born..

footprintsintheslow · 10/07/2020 13:38

@onlyreadingneverposting8 love the blanket. It reminds me of raspberry ripple ice cream

Frazzlerock · 10/07/2020 14:53

So far so good!

I'm having to go off and eat something sweet to turn the baby as the sonographer can't get a good view of the heart. So I'm sitting here eating a Costa oat and raisin biscuit in the hope this little scamp will turn. Baby been super wriggly otherwise!

She wouldn't let me FaceTime DP but she filmed some of the scan so I could record it on my phone.

NaomiB79 · 10/07/2020 14:57

@Frazzlerock I had to do that too at my scan last Wednesday. Was sent away to get a chocolate bar half way through and called back 15 mins later 😂

AliasGrape · 10/07/2020 14:59

Congratulations @onlyreadingneverposting8 what a great pic and beautiful bubba!

@Frazzlerock hope baby turns. Mine just wouldn’t move at all at 20 week scan I remember being so worried as to why I had a non moving baby! (Hadn’t had loads of movements up to then either!) In the end she had me literally hanging upside down by my boots on the fully reclined bed and managed to see everything she needed. Really hope the sweet stuff works for you! That’s a great pic so far!

Sorry about arguments @Chickoletta DH has driven me mad with some strange ideas about social distancing and what’s ok and not. Basically I can’t go through the door unless it’s to do something he thinks I should do/ can’t be arsed to do himself in which case it’s probably safe. He’s fine to come and go as he pleases though apparently. I don’t think he’d admit it in as many words but that’s definitely the impression I’ve been getting at times. Hope your parents are ok too xx

AliasGrape · 10/07/2020 15:02

Ok the end of my post above went a bit wrong. It was meant to be welcome/ congratulations @Chickoletta - please ignore the stuff about arguments!

@Sheera1 the last paragraph above was meant for you! 🙈 God baby brain is a real thing isn’t it?

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 10/07/2020 16:23

@Frazzlerock hope you got the tinker to move! I had that with one of mine - can't remember what measurement the sonographer couldn't get now but I had to go for a walk! This baby doesn't like showing it's face...both sonographers have had to basically shake my belly with the probe to her to move so they could check the nasal bone and lips! Lovely pic of baby...I think I still think boy for you...although that head is beautifully round...so maybe girl! 🤣🤣🤷‍♀️

Sheera1 · 10/07/2020 17:25

Hi all. Scan went great. Was in for an hour! Lots of prodding. All is doing as it should. Baby was super wiggly. I thought I saw a meat and two wee veg but then he said he was looking at the lips so I have no clue what I saw. I couldn't tell what anything was! As he/she wouldn't sit still the profile pics are odd looking.

Ta @aliasgrape. We had a barnyard before I left for my scan about it as he hasn't spoken to me all morning and then said something about be thought I would be over my huff!!! Oft. I didn't miss!

He sent me texts while I was at the hospital saying he said last night he would wear a mask and admitted he hasn't been taking it seriously but will now. Things are still frosty.

Told ds 10 and he is over the moon.

Frazzlerock · 10/07/2020 17:54

Ahhh @sheera1 so lovely!
I cracked up at "meat and two wee veg" 😂 then you were looking at the lips 😂

Or little scamp managed to turn enough to see the heart properly and all is great! Such a relief!
I can't quite believe this is actually happening!

I think just before I went in there was some sad news for someone. I was waiting a long time to go back in, then the Sonographer apologised for my wait and that the last scan she did was "complicated" and her whole demeanour had changed. I hate to think of others going through that hell of finding out the heart has stopped beating. It's so cruel 😢

On a brighter note, I went to the opticians afterwards as my eyes have been playing up the entire lockdown. Turns out I was right and they have got worse so I've ordered some nice new specs. I have to wear them all the time as opposed to just screens/reading. I must be getting old!

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I also think that about the head but I still think BOY! 😁

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 10/07/2020 17:58

@Sheera1 super pleased to hear all is good!! The lips and willy mistake has made me giggle!! I really didn't get to see anything today but on Tuesday there were a couple of time the sonographer said "and there is..." and I was like "ok..if you say so!"

stairgates · 10/07/2020 18:32

Thats great news on your scans! And congrats on a little lady onlyreadingGrin Its so hard to not ask I find! We had a growth scan today aswell, all good, induction booked for my due date as Im old, no complaints hereGrin

Sheera1 · 10/07/2020 19:24

Yes I found it hard not to just say, "go on and tell me" esp as DP was not there. That would have been naughty of me if I had but it was tempting!

@frazzlerock. So pleased you got to see everything checked out in the end. It must be so tough to give people that awful news. When I had mine I remember at the time sucking it all in as I felt so bad for them all but yes the mode was very different. I remember when I was in the maternity ward for a week there was one day and the place was just silent and apparently there had been a fetal death that day. You could feel it in the mood in the air.

My sonographer today was amazing. He was so nice and so friendly and was great at letting me know what he was doing even though I had no clue. It is amazing what they can see.

AliasGrape · 10/07/2020 20:18

@Sheera1 ahh so glad the scan went well. Lol at the lips/ meat and veg. All my scans I’ve not been like ‘ahhh oh yeah’ but really not seen what on earth they were talking about!

At the last one I just about made out a leg at one point but couldn’t have told you what I was looking at the rest of the time.

Glad all today’s scans went well, how lovely!

I’ve had a very big cry today (what else is new) and been generally feeling very low and I can’t really pinpoint why - just putting it down to hormones as there’s no proper cause. It’s all just getting a bit real and overwhelming! But then I received a lovely ‘baby and me’ gift box with some treats for me and a few baby bits in which did cheer me up. It was from a friend I’ve not seen since lockdown.

OP posts:
Countingblessings · 10/07/2020 20:45

Ah here you all are Grin

Great news on the scans, so pleased they went well for you ladies! And excited to see there are some new arrivals imminent! Cant wait to hear about their arrivals when the time comes.

@Dia12 sorry to read about your experience with the midwife. They really do seem to be hit and miss. Mine isnt unpleasant but she's so scatty I feel like she's got no clue what she's doing. Did you decide to go for the NIPT?

My 20 week scan not for a few weeks yet and I'm at that point where I feel better and cant feel any movement so it's on and off panic stations for me. Still cant let myself believe it's all real. Hopefully after 20 week scan I can start to get excited.

Still loving the crochet pics. I know you guys say it's not that hard but, honestly, I'm not handy like that so I'm SO impressed by what you can do.

Is anyone else hoping that the more lockdown eases up the quicker time will pass? It's not totally dragged for me so far but the lack of distraction has definitely made it feel like groundhog day so I'm looking forward to having a bit of variety in the things I can do. Although being preggers in lockdown hasn't been that bad so far (except for the medical appointments bit). At least I've not had to make excuses to not go to the pub and I didnt have to pretend to colleagues that I felt ok during the first trimester. Couldnt do anything else anyway, why not grow a baby Grin

footprintsintheslow · 11/07/2020 05:41

@AliasGrape that present sounds lovely. Any pictures?

@Countingblessings I'm glad it's been lockdown here so I don't have to go anywhere or see anyone but time does drag a bit. I'm happy with a bit of easing but not too much as I want to stay home in my nest!

Realladymarmalade · 11/07/2020 08:42

Morning everyone! This is a lie in for me🤣 usually up at 530am and awake.

Thank you sheera ...I genuinely don't know many other mums to be in RL, unlike my previous pregnancies. For the Scottish ladies there is a born in lockdown fb group I am on but its more for info and tips. For instance where the hell to get baby clothes online...everything seems sold out. Managed to get a couple of bit last night but considering braving the shops..

Great news on scans!!! Loving the updates.

Also great news for us Scottish ladies on Nicolas changes to maternity rules! My partner is looking fwd to maybe attending the 36 week scan. My mum is my 2nd birthing partner but as she is 76 (but a young 76 and a former mw) will exercise caution. Still anxious about daily new infections creeping up..

Dia your midwife sounds like an arse! Wheres the compassion ? I was climbing the walls awaiting my harmony scan result.
Great your trust does niptfor borderline results. My trust introduced that one month too late . I know that anxiety and that need for reassurance. We are all here.

So my 32 week scan went well. The wee one is on the 50th centile so I breathed a sigh of relief ! 😊😊😊😊😊

I actually asked about inductions as I cannot go over EDD with an offshore partner when every second counts. I am getting a sweep about 39 +2 and plan to get the induction on my due date. I'm hoping to avoid the balloon and that theyll just pop my waters as its dc3. Love the idea of crocheting whilst you wait ! (Though this also springs to mind crochet hooks and how DO they burst those waters ?? Lol). I'm glad I'm booked in anyway. I usually go on or the day before my due date so hoping nature takes its course first
She has also given me omeprazole. Much better and feeling less sick and heartburn. Just super tired.

sheera I am also v hormonal. Still considering starting sertraline as a preemptive measure. Its sat in my cupboard waiting for me. (Bad AND and PND last time)..its not a bed of Rose's this time either . I'm not sure sheera if there is a blended family thing. My dp is very good to me but I find myself mumping at him , questioning what the HELL I am doing, also still smell sensitive to his odd cigarette..questioning whether I fancy him because intimacy just is not a thing . All understandable I am sure. But I also sympathise with your mask anxiety . Surely a well ventilated van will be very low risk though I think the point is he has to protect you. I've had similar debates with both my ex dp and dp. They have to respect my wishes . Ex dp has just returned from visiting his cousin , but this involved a ferry to the isle of Lewis and until his test comes back negative hes garden only!

Childcare ...I'm doing three days a week compressed , so will get 3 nursery days , and one day a week in my private work so my mum or dp or mil will cover..but its still hefty at a time when I am approaching my older one starting secondary !

I can categorically say if I knew of covid , we wouldn't have expanded our family! Too much money anxiety now lol.

Celibacydidntwork · 11/07/2020 09:02

@Sheera1 I can so relate. My partner has a daughter from a previous marriage who comes here every two weeks. We’ve been shielding as my daughter has a lung condition so a ‘vulnerable’ person. I’ve been so careful, no school, no socialising, my son has missed his football - lots of sacrifices. Whereas partners daughter has been going with friends on a bus into the city and going to restaurants - no mask - and partner can’t understand why I’m annoyed.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/07/2020 11:05

Morning! Major headache today! Taken paracetamol so hoping that'll sort it! I made the mistake of having some food with flavour (some sweet and sour veg and fried rice) on Thursday evening - I threw up on Thursday night and yesterday just felt completely sick all day and vomited again in the evening. Have vowed not to eat anything with flavour again!!! So I'm back to bread, ready-brek and mashed potatoes 😳 God I had forgotten how bad me expecting a girl was!!!!!!! 😲🤣

footprintsintheslow · 11/07/2020 11:26

Terrible headaches here too. It's been days now. I'm taking paracetamol but can't shift it

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 11/07/2020 12:00

@footprintsintheslow hate headaches! Mine has gone now but I'm still feeling nauseous (less so than yesterday!) I'm sitting doing the blanket with determination to get it finished ASAP! I don't feel comfortable starting something else until it's done but am frankly bored of it now! Think I'll do a couple of quick/small things next - more instant gratification 🤣 I keep getting distracted with looking at yarn and YouTube crochet videos!

Sheera1 · 11/07/2020 12:35

Yay @Realladymarmalade glad you found us again.

Ta for the comments on DP. Yes I think might be a blended family thing. We sorted it out yesterday. I wrote him a tirade from the car waiting to go in to my scan. He said he would take more care and wear the mask. Annoying we had to have that conversation a third time! I also got a lot of annoyances off my chest and he is going to try and be a bit more present. He is bad for being in a bubble and not part of the household. Told him no way would I be solely looking after his baby. We made up so things are better but it does tear your relationship esp when we are quite anxious and men are so laid back esp my DP.

My mum and dad both tested negative for covid which is a relief so must be other bugs.

I am with you on the headaches and plain foods! Not as bad as you are having it @onlyreadingneverposting8 but def regret anything with too much flavour for hours after. Plain chicken and chips or baked potato is the law here at the mo.

I am eating way less now and remember I out on like 5 pounds last week, well it has all come back off. Maybe was bloating?

I have been googling scan pics of gender at 20 weeks and now think it was maybe girl bits I saw as looks to me like balls when it is maybe the pubic bone. Tbh looking at both pics they both seem to be sitting outside the body at a glance so I am still in the dark. I am still going with my hunch for girl but did question it yesterday.

My son is just so excited. He can't believe he didn't notice esp the baby stuff under a towel in the spare room. He was trying on the baby carrier with a teddy and putting it in the moses basket. He is going to be such a wonderful caring big brother. I am sure he will get bored quickly too lol. Babies are boring.

Stupid bollocks I just typed a really long post with replies to loads of people and then hit the wrong thing on my phone and lost it all.

So I’ll just say hello and I’m sorry to those suffering with headaches and sickness and hormones etc. Hope you’re all feeling better soon. It’s a fun old ride eh? Shocking heartburn and back and hip pain here, plus I’ve still got really sore lady bits. I was really fed up yesterday but I did actually manage to sleep ok last night so feeling a bit more positive.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Going to try tagging @Clarkel1 again as I don’t think she’s going us yet.

footprintsintheslow · 11/07/2020 19:16

@onlyreadingneverposting8 I'm the same I get giddy if I start a new project before finishing the last. I've finished my blanket now and I don't know what to do next.

@Sheera1 did you say your son is 10 or have I completely made that up? It's lovely he's so excited.

My 20 year old and 2 year old are excited. Obviously the two year old sod at know what's going to hit her yet!

Realladymarmalade · 11/07/2020 21:29

sheera glad DP is more on board with where you are at. Is this his first?

I keep checking myself for saying things to Dp like 'you have no idea' and generally patronising him ...but he really doesn't understand what having a baby truly entails.

I have to say hes been amazing, I had a wee panic before going into boots today and he came in with me. Hopefully be easier/less weird next time. I did find it a bit weird as I'm going that breathless way now as my lungs get squished so I'd really rather not but hey ho, its mandatory here now.

I have bought nappies, breastpads and maternity towels so that's me sorted for bodily fluids for now 🤣.

alias the Joy's indeed. The omprazole is a miracle cure. But the fanny daggers and ribs are bad today, possibly the 1 mile walk was a shock to my system. I've yet to cross headaches off the bingo card (touches wood ) . Carrying a baby in this heat is no mean feat.
