Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

so sorry you are having a tough time. I was in hospital with PP from 28 weeks til 39 week section. It gets dull at times but you are in the best possible place for your little baby. Get lots of books etc and just try and enjoy the last few weeks of rest. Is your little girl able to come and visit you every day? Oh and if you can, get some food in from outside as hospital food when you are pregnant is not nice!!
Good luck. xx

cmm · 08/06/2011 18:16

Thankyou, yes little girl visiting each day. Husbands birthday today so bringing takeaway later! Am so tired as spent last night with contractions all night. They gave me pethidine and when examined wasn't dilating. Anyone else had this experience with pp? No fresh bleeds just old at the moment x

southeastastra · 08/06/2011 19:37

i had similar and my son was born by c section at 37 weeks. i hated being in hospital but when i was sent home i had to come straight back in again!

just remember you're in the best place and hopefully the time will go a little quicker

Coppernoddle · 08/06/2011 19:41

Is it weird that because I'm in so much pain with spd along with a multitude of other things, I'm hoping for something to happen in a couple of weeks just to get baby out!!!! Cannot believe my luck with this pregnancy, if had an hour I would list it all for you!! And it's now effecting my two little girlies too! Is that insane?

Coppernoddle · 08/06/2011 19:43

What am I talking about, if I had an hour!!!! That's something I seem to have the most now with PP, all the. Time in the bloody boring don't know what to do world!!!!! Confused

Yes! Hormonal wreck! One minute I'm so worried about something happening to baby, the next minute I just want the thing out due to so much pain and panicking!
Well I sincerely hope you have baby before 39 weeks! The stress is enough to send you crazy! I'd say hopefully within the next week or so you'll be holding your little one with not a worry in the world! And you can go home and be a family again! Hope you had a lovely evening with your take out, take your mind off it for a little while. Hope all goes well with your consultant today, let us know how you get on x x x x

cmm · 11/06/2011 00:48

Hi, well consultant has set date, a week on weds, 22nd June!!!! So I will be 38+2. she did also say if I do bleed next week she would do it then. So, feel do much better have a plan. Scared tonight as had lots of braxton and period pains, on the monitor and told to try and sleep and if anything I will know.... Just easier said than done. Anyway, the co codomol had helped and had settled. How are you coppernoodle? So feel for everyone going through this xxxx

That's brilliant news!! Hopefully the week will go fast for you if not sooner! You can't help but worry, it's almost annoying the way there so relaxed and la de da about it!
I'm doing fine! I have finally put on some weight, vie now gained half a stone, it took a week of eating loads though! Want to make sure baby is thriving for if it does come early! I have my appointment on the 21st, day before your c section and I'm going to be like I've never begged before in not letting me go till 39 weeks! My last little girls was 3 hours start to finish and that only felt like Braxton hicks for the first hour! She was 3 minutes of pushing, 3 pushes and she was out! So if I went into labour, it wouldn't be long! And as this is my third, my outer cervix is already slightly open! But I still have a long way to go yet! Need to get through these next 7 weeks without it all kicking off. Luckily, I've got everything ready for baby, the nursery is done, everything bought and ready to go! And I now have a cleaner so I don't have to do it myself even though you do find yourself filling your time with other things! But definitely more relaxed now which definitely helps with spd!
Have you been effected much with spd since being in hospital? Do they let you get out of bed and shower and wander around? I heard an extreme case where she had to lie down constantly, couldn't even shower! Hopefully you can relax a little now they've bought the date closer.
Have a lovely day and hope you get spoilt over the weekend with visitors and flowers! ( sending you a virtual bunch of flowers)

Hi coppernoodle, thank you so much for your message. Sorry haven't been on before, had a bad day as this morning had lots of tightenings and pains and so they called the drs who were lovely, explained that baby trying to engage and can't cause of placenta. It's so scary when you feel like you ae going to start your period, ended up calling hubby as my little girl was at a sleepover. the ctg showed some tightenings but baby was so active trying to move down that it kicked off more and more tightenings and pains. The co codomol made me so spaced too! Had a really sleepy day and not great but just had another ctg reading and things are calmer thank goodness.
They will let me shower when I feel string enough but am resting most of the time. It does help my spd.
Definitely sounds like you have a case for earlier section. They asked me if I had been term before. The risks with the previa is going to labour, surely of you have a history it would make sense to monitor you closely. How many weeks are you again? Xx

Good to hear from you, don't worry if it's not a day or so, I'll still be here! Sounds like you had an eventful day then!glad it's all calmed down a little, I guess you have to take everyday as a day at a time! Not long now, and it will all be over! I think fitness will be a bit of an issue after for both, we do so much resting and lying down that nothings being exercised! Can't wait to get back to the gym and running around with my girlies! I'm 31 1/2 weeks now so still got a bit to go! I think you'll be having this baby in the next day or so, and to be honest, think it might be for the best too! Fingers crossed for you, and hope you have a lovely day today! It my anniversary today and all I want to do is go to bed!! Poor hubby!! Might have to do some cheeky favours for him later Grin I picked up my new nappy bag yesterday too so now have everything ready! Such a comfort when it's all ready to go! Have you got everything ready?
Anyway, get some trashy mags and watch some films x x x

Coppernoddle · 14/06/2011 16:01

How are you doing CMM? Hope all is going well for you? X x x

cmm · 14/06/2011 23:36

Hi there, been wanting to update thread and see how you are too. How are things with you?

Just had a rubbish couple of days but feel stronger in some ways today. Days do blur a bit when in hosp don't they. Basically Sunday I had awful tightenings. Ended up they were braxton, the pressure in tummy and pelvis was just unbearable. Got really upset and scared too. Anyway, very little blood loss that's new so they have said 22nd june unless fresh bleed before then.keep wondering if I can hold off and not have a bleed before next weds ! It's over a week since last proper bleed, longest I've gone between. Having darker all the time and sometimes slightly redder but no bright red, what a subject!!!! sorry tmi!!!! Keep getting little niggles and tightens but generally not as strong. Also feel really nauseous till around midday.

How are things with you? Xx

I had PP with Dd1 and she was born at 36 weeks exactly, so you are doing better than me!

I had a CS and all was fine, DD1 needed no special care (i was given steroids with my first bleed at 31 weeks), Fingers x'd all stays put until your scheduled CS, but if not, you are in the best place. All the best & take care. xx

Coppernoddle · 15/06/2011 09:54

Oh cmm, you are going through it! Big cuddles to you x x yes, hospital stay days blend into a blur! But it's good that hopefully it's not dragging! You can't help but worry what's effecting baby and what's not! Watched that baby hospital last night! Completely the wrong thing to do!! It's good news you've not bled heavily for a week now, that's positive! I think the quicker this is over for you the better, I think baby would be fine being born now just as alsoavailablesober said!
I'm doing fine, feel utterly exhausted now as the pain at night is getting worse, and starting to be sick again, so think I'm having a wave of hormones! Got one week till my scan and the consultant. So I've got a week to practise my sobbing heartbreaking circumstances in not leaving me till 39 weeks! Would be more than happy with 38 weeks. But like you, I haven't had any bleeds yet, just a little wipe of blood so am under the influence of everything ok! I'm not worrying about it too much, I have everything in place in case it happens so am quite relaxed. The only thing is not being with my girlies everyday! But definitely don't want baby to come too early, don't think I could handle the stress!
Not long now cmm, 1 week today!! I'm very exited for you!
Have a lovely day x x do something to make yourself feel better today, do your hair and make up even if you are flat on your back!!

hi ladies, same old names in the pp thread. I too have days when i feel like inside im going in to flat out panic about what could happen & days when i am calm. I feel like i have forever to go, im 21 weeks & having baby at 36 if nothing major by then. But its the anticipation of something mjaor occuring that worries me. I also seem to have days where i keep crying, which is soooo not me its untrue !!!! :-S

Coppernoddle · 15/06/2011 15:09

Glad for you to join us doe, it's a hard thing to endure through! I think the anticipation of waiting for something to happen has a massive impact in relaxing and just enjoying your pregnancy! Kind of takes the fun out of it! Well, there are lots of happy stories to just to put your mind at rest, so don't think that these things will definitely happen to you, but as long as your prepared for it and you know what to do if something happens, think you can relax a little. I remember being very stressed out about it after my 20 week scan as we'd just found out! In the mean time, I got my head together and went on a two week holiday to Florida were we took my girlies to Disney land! Was amazing!! Then when we got back, I got everything ready, painted room, bought pushchair and car seat, cot ready and everything to go in it which was very exiting! Took my mind of it, and if anything was to happen, I'm all ready to go! Now it's just a waiting game!
Do little jobs of preparing to take your mind of it and enjoy your time you have with bump! Although the pain is immense (cmm and myself have spd also) I will miss my bump! And the attention you get and just sitting at night time with little one having a wriggle of a life time, it's really special and no matter how horrible or hard your pregnancy, you will miss it!!
Lets all have a Brew :)

Coppernoddle · 15/06/2011 15:09

captainbarnacle · 16/06/2011 18:33

How are you cmm? I'm 32w and found out I have major PP yesterday :( But had no bleeding since 12weeks so far....

I look after DS1 and DS2 on my own (4 and 2) so am a bit worried to think I might have to be in hospital for 2weeks or more with them farmed out to friends and family. Erk. You're doing brilliantly!

Coppernoddle · 16/06/2011 18:35

Deo, it's nice to be ready and start buying everything!!! Trouble is now, I've done it all, I'm now bored out of my mind!!! I can't walk far so can't do much, and my husband hired a cleaner so can't even do that! I'm soooo bored!! Going to take up a hobby I think! My sister gave me some stuff to start knitting, so I knitted Grin I knitted a worm as that was all I could do and everybody knit's scarfs! My husband says it looks like a willy sock! :)
I think with the traveling, ignorance is bliss! I didn't really know the extent of PP, so decided to go, but glad I did! We had a whale of a time! Really want to go away to our caravan in abersoch too for a few days and DH won't let me as were too far away from the hospitals and the girlies keep asking me if they can go to the sea side!! Would love to! :(
