Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

cmm · 07/06/2011 00:12

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

No way! The first thing they said to me was no sex, no orgasm due to the womb contracting. Which has been completely impossible! I gave it too weeks and was that frustrated I started orgasming asleep at night! So, if I was going to do it in my sleep, I might aswell enjoy myself doing it! Grin but have been extremely careful if we ever had sex, hubby would literally wet the tip (sorry Shock
I love sex in pregnancy, it's amazing!

Sorry everyone, bet you think I'm a raving sexahollic! I'm not!

I think were all here to stay! We'll all follow everyone's story right to the end! The support is important! I'm defo here to stay x x

Coppernoddle · 17/06/2011 14:58

Anyway, I'm so exited to here what you have cmm!!!!

deo357 · 17/06/2011 21:50

well u have all been busy while ive been gone !

i do loads of typos too ! im just typing too fast for my brain !!!!!

im 22 weeks & when i had big bleed @ 17 weeks they saw complete pp & there was no definate edge between placenta & uterus wall so put it down as suspected acreeta. Then at 20 week scan it has been confirmed. @ 28 weeks they will scan again & do MRI that is the ONLY way to actually diagnose the acreeta but still its not easy. They dont HAVE to do hysterectomy but this is baby no 6 & no 6 c-section so i have lots of scar tissue & have been cut open too many times, so after reading up on it all I decided that it is the quickest , safest method for me & babe because it would be very lenghty op to try & save my womb !! so dont u all go in to panic about having accreeta although sometimes they cant tell til delivery but they would most proably have seen something by now.

emoo - hi emoo - when will they be scanning u again??
coppernoodle - im relishing the no shagging, no getting woken up early in the morning by my hubby !!!!! & the willy sock could have a tongue too !!
cmm - u are so on the home straight now, not to worry u but my big bleed happened about 5 am & i hadnt got up just felt dripping & thought i pee'd my pants !!!! if u have baby now at least it will be fine, im worrying as im still only 22 weeks & its a good few weeeks til i know babe will be fine !

xxx

deo357 · 17/06/2011 21:53

coppernoodle - i wasnt told no orgasm - ooops - i have been dreaming about orgasms too !!!!! that is imposssible !!!!!!

cmm · 17/06/2011 22:23

Welcome to the thread emoo... All the pp things are really frightening aren't they. Its good to share things. This is my experience so far...obviously this is just what is happening to me and there is always a chance that pps don't bleed (know of one girl locally who didnt) but as I understand it this depends on where it is at the 20 week as to how much chance of it moving. Also even though I've had three now I am constantly looking for a rationale as to why and if it might not happen again but drs say it us impossible to say really.
Bled upto 12 weeks but told this normal implantation bleeding (didn't with first little girl though)
At normal 20 week all ok but showed 'low lying placenta' did ask then if pp but sonographer seemed to think not and lower edge just touching os (although this varied on other scans or descriptions to just covering internal os.
Advised no sex, lifting and report any bleeding or tightenings and pain. They did say though that every chance it could move, apparently they normally do,
About 23 weeks had tiny tiny spot of blood. They rechecked scan in antenatal app check and said it was covering os which they said had a lot less chance of moving. My gp had said she had never known one just touching, but not covering os, that hadn't moved. Seemed to be then all hinging on whether covering os or not. Rescanned at 24 and internal os just covered I think. Have to say I was confused but definitely thought by scan at 33 it would have moved and relaxed more although spd in preg wasn't good.
scanned at 32+4 and hadn't moved. They wanted to book for section at 39. Still no bleeding. Asked if I could have another scan at 36 and they agreed but told not to expect a move.
33+4 had tightenings and had hosp stay without bleeding for two nights
34+4 at four in morning had first bleed: couldn't sleep had ran bath. Had trickle in bath then got out and gushed blood so ambulance in.
Been in ever since and had two more bleeds but also some tightening.
Decided to let me have section on weds will be 38+2 unless bleed before and they will do immediately.
Think biggest tip is if you do bleed call 999 and tell pp; also be hopeful but realistic that It might not move; also if you do bleed, hard as it is if you get admitted, know it is for yours and babys safety.
So waffle over now!!!!!!

Finally found someone with PP that wasn't posted years ago! How are you CMM and CAPTAINBARNACLE? I to have placenta pervia mine is anterior and about 12mm away from OS. I'm also told there is a major vein and artery between that to, and they will have to cut through the placenta to get to my DD i have to go in on the 29th of june to have her. I also have to have a general Anastasia. I am soooo scared now, i've had no bleeding as yet (touch wood!!)
I hope to hear from you soon and that your both doing ok ,

Michelle. xx

captainbarnacle · 18/06/2011 08:37

General Anastasia - I love it!

Wow 29th June is only 10 days away - so exciting. You've done really well to get this far without bleeding: there's hope for me yet. When did they find out about the vein and artery though? I've been wondering about this. I'm due a 36w scan but they didn't say what exactly they would be looking for. Is the GA because of the vein and artery then?

SeaChelle39 · 18/06/2011 11:54

Really? I am so scared! lol They said for where the placenta is and it's quite thick where it is attatched and of course they might nick the artery etc on the way in.
They found out about the artery/vein just over 2 weeks ago through an internal scan (i have another on (Tuesday) i'm praying it's moved.
Ah it's so good to talk to someone who's going through the same thing x

deo357 · 18/06/2011 12:36

try not to stress SEACHELLE39 u are at the end of the road & seem to have got quite far with no major problems. Although i had read that you bleed more with the General & epidural is better, maybe check this with them as u wont have such a long recovery time. keep on our thread ! & keep us informed.

Hows things today CMM??

cmm · 18/06/2011 14:30

Ho girls! And welcome seashell!

Sorry for the late post today, had really bad spd pain this morning and so had my Bowen treatment with the male midwife who works private but is also a midwife on the unit in hospital where I am. Then had some tightenings etc, had some pain killers and got really spaced out 'do had lie down. Just told to try and have nap. Think codeine on an empty stomach made me spin!!!

4 more days Inc today till my section, do hope don't bleed again before!!!!
Seashell / not long got you too. Do understand your concern, it is scary isn't it! Asked my midwife today if they need to do general if problem with getting placenta out, they said it really depends on how I am but they try not to. Appreciate mine is posterior though.

I have a lady community midwife and then the guy that is doing my spd treatment, he was do good today explaining that it might be normal to still feel strange after it all re bonding with the baby. Been in hosp now just over three weeks, three bleeds; it dies tend to disturb you a little and although I am now looking fwd to meeting it, think it just isn't the sane excitement when you've gone through the pp thing. Anyone else feel the same? Think the breastfeeding might help settle me, am looking fwd to that xx

OP posts:
deo357 · 18/06/2011 16:41

oh yes cmm i cant wait to do the breastfeeding thing, i just feel like i want this preg over & done with asap which is a shame because i so wanted to relish it being my last & up until my 1st bleed @ 17 weeks i felt A1 . eversince then i worry about every twinge, pain, wee, everything. dont worry, im sure u will feel so relieved when its here & u go home u will b fine xx what is the bowen treatment - must google !

Coppernoddle · 18/06/2011 16:52

Gosh busy Saturday!!

Hi to seachelle39, glad were all doing well ladies!

Cmm, I feel the same, it does take the excitement away from seeing baby with all the stress! I'm going to breastfeed too, definitely help with the bonding!

Seachelle I bet there doing a general because it is so dangerous and it won't stress you out as much if your not awake for it! I know if that was me, I'd want to be out cold! I'm not looking forward to a c section at all! It scares the hell out of me! Especially the needle in the back thing!

Deo, I am loving the sleep orgasms! I only get them in pregnancy! And I think I might leave the tong on my knitted creation, after all, it is supposed to be a worm for little one Hmm but I may have to make my husband one, just for fun!

Captainbarnacle, hope your doing well too!

Well, dinner in oven and have got hubby ironing, girlies are playing lovely together, doctors and nurses! Been dead grumpy all day to hubby, poor thing and had a fab night sleep last night! That's what Saturdays are for!!
Will have to make it up to hubby tomorrow! I'll make him eggs Benedict for breakfast, were going out for the day so I'll make a nice picnic and were going to watch twinshock vintage motorcycle racing at norley! Brilliant Confused well, I guess one day of the year is ok!!!!
:) Brew

Coppernoddle · 18/06/2011 16:54

3 more days and counting till my scan!!!!!! :)

deo357 · 18/06/2011 17:34

cant wait myself til your scan too, fingers crosssed, having had lots of c-sections it is really fine, no pain, just need to keep calm, its fine, still wouldnt want to be out cold cause u feel so yukky after. My hubby would love the vintage bike racing, just his thing !! have a lovely day x
got car seat today !!!

SeaChelle39 · 18/06/2011 19:50

Hi Ladies,

Hope your all feeling ok?
A quick question, i went to the loo yesterday and when i stood up to wipe noticed 2 sort of thread like streaks in the toilet (nothing when i wiped) does that sound like a show? Was told I would have to go in if i had pains/show etc but i'm really not sure it was. What do you guys think?

DEO - Thank you, I will ask again about an epidural after Tuesdays scan, Hopefully things will have moved a little more. And yes i'm the same as you, last pregnancy and have really enjoyed it up until now, funny I said the same thing to my partner today, about i hope i'd bond but i'm going to give breast feeding another try and hopefully won't cross that bridge x

CMM - Hello, how are you feeling today? Hope your doing a little better and yes totally understand what you mean, it is very scary. Can i ask what SPD pain is?

COPPERNODDLE - Yeah they did say if a big bleed did happen the anesthetist would need to concentrate on me and not me panicking - organized chaos she said if it did happen. Eeeh made me laugh about the orgasm thing (sorry but cheered me up a little) ;O) I too have had them when i've been asleep, even though they've never told me not to have sex etc weird lol

Thanks guys it really helps to have someone in the same position as yourself to talk to and make you realize things aren't as bad as they seem ;O) xx

Coppernoddle · 18/06/2011 20:06

Yay! A car seat! I keep looking at mine, can't wait to use it! And my pushchair! Think I'm more exited about that than having baby arrive! :)
My hubby is bike mad! He's rode motox all his life and so did his dad, now his dad rides vintage which is hilarious! Half of the guys can't even get on the bikes Grin
My girlies have there first go on a peewee 50 next weekend! Shock

It's so lovely to gave so many nice people on here! It'll be nice to follow everyone of you to the end!
Think positive girls! Sweet dreams Grin

cmm · 18/06/2011 21:12

Hi all,
The Bowen is a gentle pressure technique sort of like accupressure I guess, very safe in preg. It is supposed to kick start the body into reallinging or fixing probs areas, honestly can say that it has helped me stay More comfortable than without it, took three to four sessions before it started to help but then since then starts realising few better days with spd. As got further on sure I would have been worse without if. Can walk to and from toilets down the ward with less pain. Last time St this stage was on hands and feet more crawling at home!! Been having each week for last month but had to go nearly two weeks as he's been on hol and I really started to cease up more. Def recommend a try.

Had bit of up down day, feel quite tearful at tomes, silly when nearly there!!!! Midwives been lovely today explaining that pp is prob one of the most complicated pregs to have and I've coped well, I just feel stupid when I get tearful! Only three days after this though and get to meet baby! Like you've said, the niggles and pains are stressful though, and losing blood for over three weeks now is kack!!!!!!

Re the g.a. One of the midwives said today that they may knock out if things got difficult in order for mum not to be too stressed - that's the same as you've been told. Have met a mum on here who had g.a. Because spinal didn't work! It is so rare though apparently; she was fine though and went home in about three days.

Coppernoodle - only three days to scan! So hope it is a better result. Be good to see baby again xxx

deo357 · 18/06/2011 22:36

coppernoodle - my hubby big into road bikes, small world !

cmm - be strong for these last few days u can do it !

re: GA, look into breast feeding after one girls, i think there may be a time limit on how soon u can feed as the GA goes in to blood stream & will b in breast milk. and i read my info on a stats page saying patients lost LESS blood under epidural, so if u think u can hold it together go for that option.

ive bought myself a bugaboo this week too - oooh - shame i cant practice folding it etc at mo - how excititng !!!!

cmm · 18/06/2011 23:37

Thanks deo - know you're right, so nearly there! Feel guilty when you're not as far on.... Honestly think it's the hormones too!

Re g.a. And bf, Will ask the midwives as I am in hospital should be able to get an answer.

Can't seem to settle tonight, tidied my side room a little, honestly looks like my residence now!!!!! It has helped so much having my own room in hospital. Got pics of my little girl, flowers, lots if lotions and potions, mags, DVDs and of course where would I be without my phone!!!!! Seriously I an either instant messaging my cousin in USA, messaging our lovely pp group, texting friends, playing scrabble and doing bits of work for hubby ad can access Internet obviously. But I do tend to doze a lot too. Better try to get some sleep, lights been off outside room for ages now! Xx

Emoo · 19/06/2011 08:08

Morning! Hope everyone slept well, especially if in hospital!

Thanks for your stories. Kind of fits in with what I have read. Reckon I have about a 50/50 chance of it moving. Nobody has told me about the "no sex" thing though (not that I'm getting much anyway Grin )! I like the sound of those night orgasms, have no clue what you are talking about, assuming you mean spontaneous ones? Lucky you!

Cannot recall who was asking, but next scans due at 27 and 30 weeks. Funny numbers but it's because I am having dildocam scans anyway to look at cervix as had spontaneous labour at 28+ weeks last time. The consultant this time said "oh well, if your placenta's there, at least if your cervix starts to open, we'll know about it!" great, thanks!!!

Have happy Sundays everyone.

cmm · 19/06/2011 08:31

Morning!!

Thanks emoo, slept not bad, seem to get couple of hours at a time, only three more sleeps to section unless I bleed before as they will do emerg if so; do hope bleed will hold off!!! Very uncomfy with Spd but just going to make most of reading mags and pampering and dozing till weds. Might ask hubby to bring a takeaway onto ward tonight or Tom for a change!!!

If you went to labour at 28 they will prob watch you extra careful which is no bad thing!!!! It's usually more like 9/10 move if just touching or low lying I think, more I've read if covering then less likely, however they didn't seem too worried about mine to start with and just said to see as most move but no sex & lifting. Looks like mine just covers from first scan and no movement. Like you say, best to think bonus if moves, I was convinced mine had moved and even when it didn't asked them for another later scan!!!!!

Hope you all have a good day. Will check the thread later, it's being so supportive to us all! Really appreciate it xx

Morning all!!!
Happy fathers day to all your partners too x

Mines been very very eventful! Baby decided to play dead for quite some time, panicked myself, drank pints and pints of cold water and ended up in hospital at 6.30 am, running out of the house shouting happy fathers day to hubby, make your own pancakes and was strapped to a monitor for a while!!! Baby is fine!! Few! :) just need to count my kicks now as baby I think is a little tired today and yesterday! Panic over, was very emotional though!

Cmm - sounds like you have a very good set up where you are! The girls that was in next to me with pp when I was in hospital at 27 weeks was just on the ward, and had been there for 3 weeks! It was a mixed ward too with new borns and people experiancing problems as they were rammed! Only 3 days to go now!!

Deo, my hubby is also road bike mad! He went to the motogp last weekend and got to go in the Honda box and speak to all the guys etc! We all a bit bike crazy in this house!! And lucky girl, a bugaboo!! I wanted one of those but as this is my last, my hubby refused as my first pushchair I bought cost a grand and was a complete waste!! I have got the new Phil and teds smart buggy, and have to say, it's very funky! My hubby is an engineer and had to check all pushchairs for there rivets quality Confused anyway, Phil and teds was built like brick shit house so I was allowed!! :)

Emoo - the orgasms are sleeping ones and are very unexpected!! Lovely but the dreams aren't always as they seem!!! Strange people, strange places, sometimes not even people! But definitely not normal! I'm not complaining though! Grin

Seachelle - how are things today? Have you had any more? Did you get it checked out? Keep us informed!! What time is your scan on Tuesday? Mines at 1.30! Hope it goes well for you x

Well, I'm exhausted! I've had little sleep and am now full on pancakes! Were going to bikes this afternoon so I can have a little rest and hubby can take the girls swimming!! Goodnight x x :) x x x

Hope you all have lovely days x x

deo357 · 19/06/2011 18:03

i have laughed out loud whilst catching up with your posts with the dildocam (i read that 3 times!) & baby playing dead comments !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hubby is wondering what i am up to !!!

coppernoodle - mine didnt go to gp cause of rain but it was his 40th in april & was gonna get hosp passes etc & then ticket bloake let me down, just as well cause of the rain!! Ive seen that phil & teds smart buggy, looks good, ive never had pushchair with pram bit so am super excited about walking boys to school with baby in pram laying all tucked up !!!

emoo - my dreams often invove robbie williams ha ha ha - i have had low placenta with 3 of mine then it moved, pp with no 5 but no bleeding & it started off all the way across & never moved & then this time started offf all the way accross & hasnt moved so far & have been told it WONT

cmm - ooooh soooooo excite 4 u - nearly there - !!!!!

Been off to b&q today to choose wall paper with my boys, cooked a roast & now sitting, not v restful, but hubby painting hall (at last), will rest tomorrow.!!! Having terrible heartburn even the gavison not working - how annoying all night long :-(

Coppernoddle · 20/06/2011 08:38

Good morning everyone! It's gorgeous and sunny outside!
Just think cmm, you be out soon enjoying the sunshine with your little one this time next week!! Two days and counting!!! Did you have a nice fathers day yesterday? Did you sleep well again?

Deo, dreams of Robbie Williams ay!! Hehehe!! I'd love to dream of a hot man like gerrard butler, but unfortunately I get ex boyfriends, weird people, but my ultimate fav is my hubby! It makes me feel all in love with him for that day x x it only lasts a day mind you in this pregnancy, I think I'm cruella devil at the moment!we didn't end up going racing yesterday, I was sooo tired and hubby was tired too, so we went on a bug hunt instead!

Think I had a complete flip out last night! My mind is working overtime!I think because of all the baby not moving thing and generally feeling shite, my tummy every 5 minutes was going hard and take my breath away, I was panicking so much that I'd go to bed and baby wouldn't wake up again! Cmm, couldn't bear the thought of bleeding being rushed to hospital! Up until now vie always thought I would be calm about it But after yesterdays episode, I feel more attached to baby than ever now! But exited for my scan tomorrow to see baby again!

Well, another day at the grindstone! Manic Mondays I call them! School, nursery, ballet twice, dinner for friends, callapse!

Have a good day everyone x x
