Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

cmm · 07/06/2011 00:12

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

dont people get jokes or what !! it was supposed to b funny !!! ahhhhhhh

cmm · 20/06/2011 13:40

Hi girls, good to hear all your news!

Coppernoodle - know what you mean about being worried, it is so hard with pp. You may not bleed though. I know that not everyone does but best to be prepared like you are... Literally call 999 immediately and tell them pp, them call your labour ward. Don't think anything totally prepares you but you are doing great! Looking fwd to hearing how your scan goes.
Deo - pain under ribs not nice, probably the stretching though.
Captain barnacle - it's lovely getting everything ready, find it wierd as pram has arrived whilst in here, also hubby has finished decorating nursery and my little girl is in her newly pink room. Be so strange seeing everything again.

Getting excited but really tired, uncomfy and bit anxious too. Am looking fed to meeting it now, still dint know if boy or girl!!!!

Speak soon xx

Hahahah!! I got winged at aswell on a thread 'signs of labour', have been chatting to this woman for a few days now and she's fed up and ready to labour, exited! This woman decided to write her nightmare of her labour, it scared me too! So I said, talk about scaring the shit out of someone, and she said I thought your remarks were rude! Why on earth would you want to tell someone how horrific your labour was when this person is about to go through hers! Makes me dead cross! If she wanted to know, she'd of asked!

I actually managed to clean my car this morning! Now, I'm nackered!! I have a heap of things to do but think I might just nap instead! Dd2 is happy watching star wars which is two hours long! That gives me plenty of napping time! Feel dead guilty as the weathers gorgeous outside!

I've eaten smoked salmon, prawns, Parma ham, cockles nearly everyday in this pregnancy! Some people get too worried about trivial things! I'm quite relaxed about stuff like that! Like you say, just be careful were you buy it from, your very safe with English foods!

Oh captainbarnacle, it's a lovely feeling when your all ready! Trouble is now, I have nothing to do! Even the bedding and sheets are on the cot, which we won't be using for a little time yet! Oh well, the room looks pretty!

24 hours till scan!! What an eventful week were going to have!
Very exited for you cmm, can't wait to find out your flavour!!!

Coppernoddle · 20/06/2011 13:49

Wow, cmm, didn't think about that, being home sick! You'll have newly decorated rooms to see too! How exiting to get home! You'll have to take photos of your second home (labour ward), so you don't forget it!!! :)
The midwives told me that, phone 999 as little bleeds can change very quickly into big bleeds.

Ref, pain under ribs, I had that from about 20 weeks! Specifically on the right hand side! The skin is soooooo tender to touch and it hurts the most in the evening and after I eat. Think it is stretching and the muscles separating. Just keep and eye on it as it can be one of the signs of pre eclampsia, but I never had any of the other things that go with it! It hurts too in the middle of the night when I need to wee. Once I've been it goes off again. But it's always there, you can never forget about it!
Just to add to the many other things on my list!!! Fantastic!!!

Coppernoddle · 20/06/2011 17:11

Deo, just read your pate remarks! How funny!!! I think she may be a cucumber farmer!! I saw the funny side to your joke!!
How funny :)

deo357 · 20/06/2011 19:21

CN - well im glad i dont have a bad sense of humour - nutter hormonal pregnant woman probably PMSL - what time is the scan ????? will be poised on here for update tomorrow.

CMM - i bet hubby will have the house all nice for when u & babe arrive back !!! natural to b anxious, deep breaths - focus on baby .

Got my M & P bath seat & play gym today, my bedroom is filling up with stuff - must sort thru what i have too & stop pushing the bugaboo round the lounge with a gruffalo dressed in a babygrow in it !!!!

i was told 999 too, but would kinda feel a bit silly if it was a small bleed ???

sleep well girls x

Coppernoddle · 20/06/2011 19:57

Hahaha! A Gruffalo!

My scan is at 1.20 then the consultant at 1.30. I'll have to go and pick my little ones up from a friends house so will be on by 5. If I get on sooner, I'll post straight away! I hate waiting for news, so won't keep you all in suspense

Cmm- how have you been today? Are you getting exited now? Start giving orders like clean the house, get food in, make sure the washings done etc.....or you could just say, let the cleaners in at this time, the shopping arrives at this time and the laundrette is expecting you!! :) that would be me I'm afraid! Don't think I would trust dh to do all those jobs the way I would want them done!! Grin
Neurotic pregnant women rule!!! Grin literally!!!!!

1 more day till you have your little one! I'm sooooo exited for you!!!

Cb- what tine is your scan tomorrow?

cmm · 20/06/2011 23:40

Hi all

Gosh it's all happening isn't it!!!

Cb and coppernoodle, will keep checking the thread tomorrow!!!! Hope the scans go ok, be thinking of you all. Sounds really bad that I aren't remembering (preg mind!!!) but what weeks are you both at again, know roughly but remind me!!!
The threads make me laugh! It's so important to keep the sense of humour going!!!! I am labelling weds b c or d day or could be Bc day! Birth or c section day! Which you prefer? Hubby getting a little nervous as he is needle phobic and not great with medical things but has coped so well in the past am sure he'll be fine. Heard the heartbeat tonight on dopler rather than ctg I had earlier and was like the first time you hear it, got all emotional, think I haven't let myself think about the baby as much, having the pp really makes it all a bit desensitised to the baby and hightened with fear of bleeds, labour etc!!!!! Can't wait to post after the birth what we've had etc!!!

Re bleeds, if you are bleeding, unless really really tiny spot, I would use ambulance, better to be safe. I had a few gushes to start, when I then shouted hubby to call 999. Although it slowed a bit by the time they arrived, it is still too scary and if it becomes heavier then they at least have equip, they blue lighted me in. So hope you don't have a bleed.... But if you do, stupid to say but really deep breaths and phone immediately. I was really shaking too as the pressure in the pelvis is heavy, think blood coming away. Honestly don't want to scare you.... Just think from what I've had and been told, best to call and get straight in.

Got a lovely night shift on, some of my fave team! Great sense of humour who take the mic yet are so caring - just the right combination. They're on for four nights so that's good as will have two nights post section with them.

Right, going to try and get some sleep, made a drink, a few tightenings but will see how they are. Getting more relaxed about them but again had I not been in hosp wouldn't be like it!!!! Know they can check at anytime.

Be thinking of you at your scans. Xxxx

Coppernoddle · 21/06/2011 07:18

Oh birth day! 100%! don't put the focus on c section as the reason your having a c section is for the birth! And I takes the stress of you both!
It'll be fantastic!! 24 hours to go and counting!! You'll be so relaxed today knowing you've only got to wait a day! Bet you'll miss the staff once you come out!

I'm 32.6 weeks. Am exited and nervous about my scan today! And added stress of my 5 year old tomorrow goes on a 3 day school trip! I'm bricking myself! Got to pack for her today! Confused

cmm · 21/06/2011 07:32

Like the b day rationale!
Gosh 3 day trip, lot for 5 yr old!
Hope your scan goes ok!!
Big news ...,,, been tightening most of last night and then 530 started to bleed, went to toilet, no pain at that point, then looked down and blood in toilet and paper. Slowed straight away but told me might do section this morning. Will keep you posted. But scared again but ok xxx

Coppernoddle · 21/06/2011 08:25

Wow!!! It's all happening today!!! Fingers crossed for you!!! Oooh, dead exited!! Nothing to be scared about! Your going to have your baby!! Grin
and you get three postnatal days with your fav staff!!! Whooohooooo!!

deo357 · 21/06/2011 16:34

wow - what a thread today !!! CMM - i wonder as i write this if u have had babe, trust the little monkey to catch u out the day before !!! well i will wait with baited breath for all of u to reply without wasting my entire evening glued to the lap top !!!!!

hurry up girls - i need to feed my children - !!!!!!

Coppernoddle · 21/06/2011 17:58

I'm exited to hear too cmm, I'm sure if you haven't had your baby today you would of said! Very exiting!!

Well, I had my scan and my placenta is still completely covering! It's propper wedged over my os. Along with babies head which is suprising as there's not really anywhere for baby's head to go! She did an internal scan too to make sure! They can't see my cyst anymore which is good so it's either tucked itself out of the way or it's disappeared, either way, it's not going to be big!! Baby is thriving and is growing along the 50th so is about 4lb now! And the blood coming through the umbilical cord is very good.
There going to c section me at 38 weeks and are going to admit me a week before to keep an eye on me if I haven't had it before then.
It was lovely to see baby again, it's soooooo much bigger than 20 weeks! He's got a cute little button nose and long legs! He's also back to back which is why my back is so painful! I get knees in my ribs and all my kicks are at the front of my belly! So, I feel positive as I went in with no expectations of it moving because it's posteria. Was kinda hoping at the back of my mind it would move but now I can concentrate getting my head round a c section.
She did say to me, I think you won't bleed as usually you would of done it between 28 - 30 weeks! I didn't want to say anything! We'll see!!
I have another scan in 3 weeks, why, I have no idea! But still, be nice to see baby again and they'll give me the exact date of my c section which will be around the 28th July. Admitted about the 21st.

Captainbarnacle - how's your scan gone today?

Well, can't wait to here your news cmm.

Deo, relax and have a glass! The suspense must be killing you!! I'm going to sit here glued to mn once the kids are in bed too :)

quickchat · 21/06/2011 19:55

Hi everyone,

Just a little note. I had PP with my first. Lots of major bleeds, especially at 37 weeks and they just sent me for an Emerg C Section straight away.

I had to sign the form incase of needing a hystorectomy.

He was absolutely fine as was I.

I had my second baby, a girl, 2.5 years later with no problems and a natural birth.

Just wanted to add a little positive vibe to your thread as I remember how stressful this type of PG can be. I also had a long list of other problems the first time. Just remember how experienced the hospital staff are who deal with you, they are amazing.

Good Luck to you all. x

deo357 · 21/06/2011 20:14

quickchat - thanks 4 the positive comments - we all apreciate that!

CN - brill all ok ,shame about the pp, but hey ho, u have been lucky so far with bleeds etc, my pp is anterior i think. interesting about bleeding between 28-30, saying that i had pp with last one and had not a spot of bleeding. how exciting to have a date (ish) shame about going in week before, depending on how u feel about it I would be thinking about avoiding that like go in to be montiored every day or something. cmm should know u dont sleep that well in hospital?? its up to u i suppose, i am just anti being in hosp I hate it! & i have a bathroom phobia, ie I hate any other toilets & showers etc HA HA HA.
CMM must have had babe, she wouldnt leave us hanginging, maybe we will hear in a few days when she is sorted. Im sooo Jelous oh to be over this pregnancy !!!!

Well done xxxx

Coppernoddle · 22/06/2011 18:22

Good evening everyone! One quick question! Is it ok to get sooooooo many Braxton hicks with pp? For the past few days my tummy keeps going really hard, not painful but takes my breath away and lasts for about 20 - 30 secs. It's not painful, but just worried it might trigger something!

Very emotional day today! Think I was secretly hoping things have moved and my 5 year old went on her 3 day school trip this morning! I was fine till she started sobbing her heart out, then floods of tears! From both of us! Feel totally lost now. Can't imagine being in hospital for so long without seeing my girlies! Cmm, don't know how you did it!! Roll on Friday!!

My baby is back to back and on top of spd my back is really sore! Any suggestions? Would he move if my placenta and his head is wedged? Is he going to be cone shaped?
Co codamol tonight!!
Xxxx
