Placenta previa - 36 weeks and in hospital!

Hi, it's been suggested that I start a new thread on this!!! Am now 36 weeks preg and been in hospital since 34+4 after first bleed with pp. They aren't apparently massive bleeds by previa standards but still scary!!! First one came in from home via ambulance in middle of night, second was after an ultrasound whilst in hospital and third was the other night again whilst in hospital. Be interested to hear of other peoples experiences on this. It's so frightening isn't it! It's when it first starts to bleed that it's frightening, nit knowing how much. Staff in hospital are being really good, especially when I bleed.

Been told that they want mr to stay in hospital till c section at 39 weeks, however this depends on how much I bleed and how I and baby am. Reason for 39 is the clinical NICE guidelines for paediatrics.

Am so up and down emotionally, one min getting head round it, next crying loads. Have a little girl 4.5 years. Her delivery was fine. Had SPd then and still do have now but having the Bowen technique for that this time, privately with a midwife, and it seems to be helping the Spd a little.,

Any tips on how you coped with your pps. Find it so difficult at times. Thanks for all support xx

It's because the 'nice' guidelines have changed apparently, they don't do normal c sections till 39+ weeks now so your lucky if they offer you one at 38 weeks. That's why there admitting me at 37 weeks and c section 38 weeks. They want to keep baby in there as long as possible. Unless there just telling you that knowing that something will happen before then anyway! I don't know how more likely you are to bleed with accreta than just pp.
They haven't seen me that often to be honest. I saw the registra at 22 weeks, wasn't even the consultant, and then they didn't see me till 32 weeks. I only saw the midwife once in-between then too! You'd think being high risk they would see you more often, make sure the placenta's doing a good enough job! It seems to me that there ethos is, if anything happens, we'll treat you then!! I think it's all about saving money half the time! How many 'least' times they can get away with!
Well, I'm sure, us pp girls catch up on nhs money towards the end!!

Well I'm home - left little Dominic in NICU. He was on 'vaportherm' (oxygen) in nasal tubes for a couple of days to help him out, but now he's just being fed and monitored through tubes in his incubator. He hasn't lost any weight at all, and he opened his eyes and looked at me today before I left him :( :(

I feel kind of out of the loop now. I should be 33w pregnant.

Coppernoddle · 25/06/2011 16:22

Oh captainbarnacle, must be very stressful for you! It's lovely to hear he's doing well and that he saw you for the first time today, amazing! And Dominic is a lovely name!
Use this time them to make sure everything ready for his arrival home and getting yourself well after the birth! Little Dominic will hopefully be home with you in a couple of days.
Is hubby staying at home now to help you out?
Glad to hear that your doing well!

Coppernoddle · 28/06/2011 16:32

Well, I made the mistake of going into mothercare today to buy a present for my friend who had her baby yesterday (10.12 1/2lb!!) and ended up buying more for me than her!! Ooops, bloody sale!!! I'm loving buying blue things!
Gosh, can't you tell how different your energy levels are when the sun goes in! Been a walking zombie today! Am dead worried about the state of my fitness after I give birth, I'm such a healthy fitness freak and have sat on my arse the whole pregnacy!,I hope it comes back quickly!

Hope everyone's doing well with their babies!! A little more relaxed now the pregnancies are over! Hope all the little ones are doing well too!
Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Deo, we'll do our best to keep the thread going, even if it is incohearant waffle!!! Grin what I ate today, how I've slept and what colour my undies are!!! Hehehe! Well, at least my summer hols are sorted now! X x x x x

deo357 · 28/06/2011 17:07

yes im quite missing our thread. maybe some others will come along too.

im no fitness freak, but took up running last year & regained my size 8 figure and was look HOT if i do say so myself (5 kids later) and now im all wobbley again and my legs r rubbing, reckon ive put on 2 stone at least, but never weigh myself when preg its too depressing! i reckon my boobs weigh 5lb each!!! went into loft space today & got my bag of baby stuff out (i knew i got rid of most things) & only found 3 sheets & 2 sleeping bags !!!! ooops less than i thought. I had saved NO clothes . apart from fav outfits in their memory boxes. hey ho more shopping. i popped in to mothercare few weeks ago kids in tow so very brief & thought the baby grow packs were expensive !!! have u only got girls at mo CN ? I still have a lot more summer hols to arrange but at least ive done something ! what part of the country do u live in CN?

oh by the way - pink poker dot thong today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coppernoddle · 28/06/2011 20:08

Hahahaha!! White with purple spots shorts!! Grin

If you look at me from behind, I don't look pregnant and still in some of my 10 clothes!! Then turn around to find a bowling ball stuck to my tummy! You can still see my hips, very strange looking!!
I got rid of everything after my 2nd girly as wasn't planning any more! So I've had to buy everything again Grin I love it!! It's like starting again! Think I'm more exited about using all my new stuff than having baby!! Hehehe!!! Went to visit my friend in hospital this evening and got very broody with all the little babies!
I'm in Cheshire, near macclesfield. Where a bouts are you deo?

Oh, and yes, I'm enjoying the big boobs too!! I'm usually flat chested so the cleavage is much appreciated!, apart from pregnancy nipples, but no one has to see those!! Any way, must hubby is insisting on a boob job soon!! And that's just him!!!!! Grin

deo357 · 28/06/2011 21:22

tee hee, i have put weight on all round im a good 12 now - im only 5 ft so look even fatter !! i try & ignore it really & ill look forward to running again after im all recovered. I always have big boobs even when im my size 8, but these babies r super size!!! F cup at mo !!!
i live in buckinghamshire in the chiltern hills - sounds so posh -
i do love a new born baby its my favourite age actually & i hate sharing it with anyone !!!
ill be going with a tummy tuck rather than the boob job !!
how old r your others ??

cmm · 28/06/2011 22:30

Hi
Just wanted To touch base and say Haven't forgotten you all! Sorry it's been so long. I still remember how difficult those last weeks of preg were and wanted to say thinking of you all.
Doing ok just really tired and sore both from section and spd and boobs of course!!!! Quite emotional too, think being in hosp so long was hard. Feeding going well but 'ted' is feeding for Britain and my milk still coming in and engorged a little. Just keep feeding! Just fed him now and thought I'd write to you but he's ramping up again so gonna have to go! Absolutely loving my little 'ted'!!!!!! Keep thinking of the end prize after the pp!!!
Write and let me know what stage you're all at - do want to follow your progress!!!!!

Evening! I was wondering if I could join you? I had my 20 week scan and they said I had my placenta was

MrsSheepinessandherlittlelambs · 28/06/2011 23:15

Oops don't know what happened there!

MrsSheepinessandherlittlelambs · 28/06/2011 23:16

Evening! Hope everyone is good, especially those with new bundles of joy! I was wondering if I could join you? I have been lurking for a few days and I have decided to take the plunge and jump in! I am 21 weeks pregnant with DC2 (DD is 10.5 months eek) Apologies if my post turns into a rant but my head is so full of questions etc I don't think I am capable of getting it all out coherently!

I had my 20 week scan last week and they said my "placenta was posteria, and covering the babies exit route, that I would need a scan at 36 weeks and if it hadn't moved by then possibly a ELCS, thank you and goodbye". So I set to googling (mostly avoided the horror stories!) and think I have placenta previa...... (tell me if in wrong and I'll leave you all in peace!)

I think the level of information given to me was frankly crap, and I'm not to happy about being left for another 16 weeks. I haven't seen my midwife about it yet but she is very matter of fact, and I know when I mention it she will just fob me off with "it will probably move" (although my research says it probably won't) To add to this I had a LLETZ treatment on my cervix which apparently can cause placenta previa and pre term labour, (many women on here that have had this have had consultant referrals and scans etc to assess the thickness of their cervix) but again my midwife said, don't worry you'll be fine! With the two issues do you think I should push for a consultant appt. or am I seriously over-reacting? I was and still am a nervous wreck during pregnancy and now I have got something to potentially worry about I have gone into overdrive!! Sorry again for the long post!!

Coppernoddle · 29/06/2011 11:43

Morning all!! Would of typed earlier but my tummy made me scoff half a toasted fruit loaf dripping in butter!!!

Cmm, great to hear from you! Glad things are going well, keep going with the feeding, remember, you pre order the day before!! Has spd not gone yet then! I'm in agony today and can barley walk!! Everyday seems to get worse!! Still makes me smile that my husband shares the same name as Ted! Even the second name too!!

Deo, chiltern hills! Sounds lovely! I live just inside the peaks and wouldn't move for anyone! It's perfect for bringing up a family! My girls holiday club this summer hols is forest schools! Building dens, camp fires, climbing trees, calving wood and hiking! They can't wait!! I'm jelous! I want big boobs! To be honest, after this pregnacy, I just want them back where they started! On my chest!! Grin !! I was thinking that when baby comes out! Everyone wanting to hold him, it can confuse them! Hopefully the few days in hospital will get me all the time I need!

Mrssheepinessandherlittlelambs, aka, MSLL, it would take me all day to write that every time!! Grin glad to have you with us, it's nice to hear people in the same situation and the support is brilliant!! When I first got diagnosed it was at my 20 weeks scan and was nothing to it! Don't think it's the sonographers place to start advising you though, but that I would get a consultant appointment. I then went to see the midwife to discus the scan and they booked me a consultant appointment for 22 weeks where the registrar spoke to me and basically advised me, no sex, no lifting, take it easy, and if you get a bleed call 999 as it can turn very quickly into a big bleed. (don't want to scare you). So then I decided to go to America Confused which wasn't the best of ideas but was fine (ignorance is bliss) and then they booked me in for a 32 weeks scan. And straight after to discuss with my consultant. There scanning me again at 36 weeks. I'm now 34 weeks. You have placenta previa, that's the name. And because yours is covering it's grade 4. Mine was in exactly the same place, posteria but complete coverage. Mine hasn't moved at all and the consultant said that if it's posteria, it's highly unlikely it would move! But on the positive side, they don't have to cut through the placenta to get baby out at your c section. Just make sure you take it easy, and if you read over this thread from the start (you may of already have) you might get a better idea of what your dealing with. There's a section when someone asked how far along we all were, if anyones had any bleeding etc, and everyone tells their stories so it nice to see how different they all are! Stay with us, it's a great thread! And were all further along so can offer you advise based on our own experiences. Good luck, it's tough! I recomend getting in touch with your midwife and asking to see a consultant! My midwifes have been very ladida too! Not seen them half as much as they think I see the consultant all the time! :(

Well, the rest of my fruit bread is calling!! X x x x x speak to you later and hope everyone is doing well!

Coppernoddle · 29/06/2011 11:44

Captainbarnacle how is little Dominic? When is he coming home?

Coppernoddle · 29/06/2011 11:45

Seachelle, how are you getting on too? Are you home now?

deo357 · 29/06/2011 18:00

cmm - hi, glad things going ok, probably about the right time to be having a little cry & think about the reality of the last month - but have a cry then look down at ted and smile - all good to come !!

CN - love fruit bread ! mmmmm - i like thefruit bread they do in starbucks - shame about your spd - mines not that bad, had it worse - take it easy!!!

MrsSheep - welcome - if would call the ante-natal clinic at hosp & explain u r not happy & wish to discuss situation further & u feel u r not being treated as u should with this condition (works everytime) it is naughty, they sometimes assume everyone knows risks etc - they tried to do it to me but i complained. if u r a worrier make a list of questions etc and go from there. i dont know what the treatment is u say u have had, but this needs highlighting. we r all in the same boat here, some worse than others !!!

Seachelle/CB - hope u are both getting on ok

Personally, been busy today & been for a leg & bikini wax - even if i cant c it !!!!

Coppernoddle · 29/06/2011 19:43
